purplehayes2400hi - just installed xubnuntu 10.10 --- having souncard recognition issues - and i am an idiot - no idea how to navigate system16:22
purplehayes2400if anyone has time to walk me through a little bit - i am not so dumb - just no sound...:( i am sad16:23
moetunesin a terminal run   aplay -l   to see if the card is seen16:24
purplehayes2400ok ty16:24
purplehayes2400ok - yes -- ATI150 (or something like that recognized)16:26
moetunesthat will tell if alsa sees it - if not then run   lspci | grep -i audio16:26
moetunesk16:26
moetunestry in terminal   aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav16:29
moetunesif it seems to play but you here nothing run   alsamixer   in terminal and turn everything all the way up16:30
cfs_xubuntuGood afternoon all.16:36
cfs_xubuntuI have a question, probably quite trivial for most of you. How do I change the background login image in xubuntu 10.10?16:36
xGrindcfs_xubuntu; ubunt-tweak16:39
cfs_xubuntuRIght, but isn't there a simple xml file I can configure in /usr/share?16:41
cfs_xubuntuI just want to put the darker 10.01 image with the tree as the background login image.16:42
charlie-tcaNo, it isn't really simple16:42
moetunesis there a file   /usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/background-default.jpg   you can change?16:44
moetunesit might be gdm instead of gnome - not on a xubutnu box to check atm16:45
charlie-tcaum, I don't think gnome background will change xfce background, but I might be wrong16:45
moetunesI got this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=830238 from a google search16:45
cfs_xubuntuOk, I think I'm on the right track. I'll keep poking around. Thanks.16:52
mrbnetI'm trying to install xubuntu on an embedded system from USB.  If I don't include cdrom-detect/try-usb=true it cannot find the install files but if I include the extra parameter it does not allow me to access the /dev/sda.  Any suggestions?17:30
n2diyI just aquired a Compaq Presario with 64m of ram, any hope of loading Xubuntu, or linux on it?18:32
charlie-tcan2diy: Xubuntu won't be usable with 64MB ram. I could suggest puppy linux or18:35
charlie-tcaDSL or maybe something from http://www.tuxradar.com/content/whats-best-lightweight-linux-distro18:37

Sysirecovery disc didn't help18:56
Sysido i need to take off my linux-ssd for reinstalling win?18:57
charlie-tcacongratulations. Welcome to the "I hate windows too club"18:57
wildintCan somone point me to docs that explain how Xubuntu produces it's LiveCD/install ISO23:04
charlie-tcaI usually tell the release team I want it run?23:05
charlie-tcaWhat is it you are attempting to accomplish?23:06
wildintI work on a project that is creating a Xubuntu based LiveDVD23:06
wildinttrying to streamline the process with more automation23:07
wildintright now we create a virtual machine and then run a bunch of scripts in the vm and finally use remastersyst to produce a bootable iso23:07
charlie-tcaHave you seen https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch ?23:07
wildintI probably have and just need to reread, it's interesting since the is similar but different from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization23:09
charlie-tcaThat is the other one I would recommend. It is very close to what we use23:09
wildintthanks for at least confirming that23:11
charlie-tcayou are welcome.23:17
=== m00se is now known as `mOOse`
wildintlooks like the tricky part is going to be setting up our sample data in the home directory of the user23:18
=== `mOOse` is now known as m00se
wildintmaybe I can use the /etc/skel file to do that23:18
wildintit isn't clear to me reading either of these on how to get the initial language selector screen like the live disk23:22
wildintand graphical boot menu23:23
charlie-tcaWe borrow from the ubuntu installer people23:24
charlie-tcaThe images are the same basics, with different packages seeded23:24
charlie-tcaThe graphical boot menu is ubiquity, from debian23:25
charlie-tcaI think23:25
wildintI think I just need to dissect a Live disc tonight to figure it out23:25
bazhangI thought the debian-installer was from debian (ie alternate cd)23:25
wildintI think you're right in that it's from Ubiquity23:26
charlie-tcaMIght ask in #ubuntu-installer for more clarification. sometimes they help23:26
wildintwe're just talking about the initial screen you see with the keyboard selector followed by the boot options23:26
wildintthanks, wasn't aware of that channel23:26
charlie-tcaIf they are very busy, they won't be too helpful, but sometimes...23:27
