[00:39] I forgot the username and password to an install of xubuntu on an ooooold box. I know I can boot into recovery mode to get that info, but when I boot into recovery mode, it asks for a root password. I sure as heck don't remember setting any root password, and Googling gives me one result after another that denies there even IS a root password. [00:39] So what is the default root password for xubuntu in recovery mode? [00:40] Follow-up question: has this always been the case? Because this is an old install of xubuntu from maybe a couple years ago or more. I'm not even sure what version of xubuntu is installed. [01:01] Thanks anyway. I managed to find my way in by altering GRUB. [01:01] Turns out I haven't logged in since April 2007! [01:46] Hey all [01:46] Im new to Xubuntu [01:46] got a couple of questions [01:46] switched from ubuntu to xubuntu [01:47] WHen I had ubuntu I had a preferences menu, in xubuntu it says its there but it is not showing up.WHat am I doing wrong [04:16] hello [05:34] good morning xubuntu === pleia2_ is now known as pleia2 [19:28] A second speaker/audio icon has appeared in my panel. All on its own. I haven't installed or changed anything. How can I make it go away? [19:30] likemindead: if you right click it you should have the option to remove it [19:30] This new one does not. [19:30] it's on notification area? [19:30] When you right click on it, you get "Mute" or "Sound Preferences" & that is all. [19:30] I think so, Sysi. [19:31] But I've been running 10.10 for weeks and it just appeared today for no reason. Has a GNOME look to it. [19:34] http://imagebin.org/124540 <--image of what I'm talking about. [19:35] Well, I see that I can hide it on the tray notification properties. Still don't know why it just appeared suddenly. :-\ [19:36] maybe an update... [19:38] That is my suspicion as well. [20:02] hello all [20:04] i've a problem on Xubuntu using scribus [20:05] !hi | bassmax [20:05] bassmax: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay! [20:05] Explain your problem, bassmax? [20:07] Scribus doesn't catch any letter of my keyboard except space and enter [20:08] You might try asking over at #scribus ( http://www.scribus.net/irc ). [20:08] i've tryied to import a lipsum text, it works, but the text is highlignt in red [20:09] I haven't actually used Scribus. Anyone else? [20:10] ok thanks i'll try on scribus channel [20:10] i hope it's not a problem with Xubuntu [20:11] scribus doesn't work like a text processor [20:11] you need to add a text box to enter text in it [20:11] yep, i did it [20:12] i create a text box and try to write text in ... [20:15] I think you select 'edit text' and put the text in a saparate window [20:16] yes, you can do that by the two way you mention [20:18] I have really given up on scribus once I realized that I can control kerning in Inkscape [20:19] but then again I mostly do single-page or two-page thingies [20:30] TheSheep : Thanx for help, i'm on scribus channel now, i try to resolve it. === bazhang_ is now known as bazhang [20:55] hi! Which package do I have to install to get starttls? Im using xubuntu 10.10 [20:56] You check Synaptic? [20:57] yes, there is no package named starttls [20:57] I think about sendmail but I'm not sure [20:57] What is it, then? [20:57] What's what? [20:58] Looks like starttls may be outdated. There seem to be several alternatives in the repos. [20:59] So what would you suggest? should I try sendmail or wont it be inside?
