graph_irssiI just totally bricked my sound00:21
graph_irssiI was having issues with microphone input in Skype so i figured i would remove this piece of crap pulse audio >.>00:22

graph_irssihowever this fail, and I got dummy controllers in kmix and nothing work00:23
graph_irssiso I figured I just revert back to pulse since at least pulse allowed me to liste to music00:23
graph_irssiso I put back in pulse, reconfiured my sound to use ALSA as input, reinstalled gstreamer setup all that stuff, removed the pulse blacklist stuff from my modprobe and reboot00:24
graph_irssikmix popped up at login00:24

squash_Morning all, have a question if someone has a minute. I'm running 10.10 64 bit, and trying to use TrueCrypt(http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads). However after installing TrueCrypt, it crashes immediately after starting its GUI. Wondering if someone else can try it and see if it is only me.02:34
collabrasquash_: ha,... 10.10 is unstable and not ready in my opinion for distribution,... LTS is a Long Term Service for a reason,... stability, security, and compatibility.02:40
collabrasquash_: perhaps truecrypt isn't at this time compatible with 10.1002:41
collabrasquash_: another option you might want to consider is downloading the source if it's available and compile truecrypt yourself... if it doesn't work then,... you're out of luck02:42
collabranot much i can say,... but i think there are alternatives to truecrypt,... not as integrated and seamless,.. but nonetheless available as an option.02:43
collabrai'd have to think about what exactly what they are,.. but i'm sure with a little searching,... you would find them.02:44
collabrasquash_: also,... you might try encrypting your harddrive as an alternative,... i know there is no 'hidden' partitions,... but it'll secure your data.02:45
collabrasquash_: that's all i got.02:45

squash_collabra: I compiled the source myself to the same result03:06
squash_collabra: really I'm hoping that someone will actually download it and try to run it and see if it exhibits the same behavior03:06
whackedok system setting/application appearance , then on left there is 5 icons style/colors/icons/fonts/GTK appearance etc, anyway under style there use to be a tab to change workspace theme03:08

collabrasquash_: hmmm,... sorry to hear that,... 10.10 must be just too different to be compatible,... i'd keep returning to the website every now and then to see if they've updated for 10.1003:26

ashley_hello all. I recently had my laptop switched from windows vista to kubuntu. I am totally unfamiliar with almost everything on my laptop. My concern is... is there built in virus/spyware protection? Or do I have to install something to my laptop?18:51
marxjohnsonFuzznut: try running pulseaudio device chooser, and making sure your headset is selected as the output device for the stream your listening to (or set as the fallback device)18:51

yoostnerdy_kid: everything you need  when you download the theme?20:28
nerdy_kidyoost: currently there is no way to download a complete theme with one download.  That will probably change, but in the mean time you have to download everything seperately.  Everything means:  icons, kdm theme (login theme), mouse cursors, plasma (desktop) theme, color scheme and window decoration.20:28
nerdy_kidsucks, but no easy way around it currently20:28
nerdy_kiddoes that answer your question?20:30

jmichaelxRoey: no idea. desktop effected worked here without issue until i installed these updates a few minutes ago23:03
Roeybrb... gotta eat23:03
yofeljmichaelx: can you check if there's something possibly related to it in ~/.xsession-errors?23:03
jmichaelxyofel: yes, i can check23:03
RiddellRoey: dunno, you'd need to ask upstream23:04
Roeyaye23:04
Roeyalso, as a Scottish citizen, what do you think of this TSA kilt idea23:05
macohahaha23:05
macoi think its not on topic here ;-)23:05
Roeyooh! cool way to get KDE on the news:  make a KDE-themed kilt and sing the American national anthem as you get frisked at the airport.23:06
jmichaelxyofel: this is what i have in .xsession-errors23:06
jmichaelxhttp://pastebin.com/0Dwtd0Ay23:06
Roeymaco:  acknowledged23:06
saprohytei am havign a problem getting the sources for aircrack-ng using apt-get.  I get the message E: Could not open file /var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick_main_source_Sources - open (2: No such file or directory)23:06
jmichaelxRoey: hit a high not as junk gets grabbed23:06
jmichaelxnote*23:06
jmichaelxbtw, the TSA kilt idea is awesome... sorry for the OT23:07
maconot terribly appropriate...23:07
macosaprohyte: run an apt-get update first?23:07
jmichaelxterribly inappropriate23:07
saprohytewill try that now23:07
yofel"KWin has detected that your OpenGL library is unsafe to use, falling back to XRender" with nvidia, huh o.O?23:07
saprohyte: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: http://extras.ubuntu.com maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY DB141E2302FDF93223:08
yofeljmichaelx: what's your exact graphics card? 'lspci | grep VGA' in konsole23:08
saprohyteI need to update the key?23:08
macoyou need to add it to your keyring23:09
Roeyjmichaelx:  haha :)23:09
yofelerm, shouldn't ubuntu-extras-keyring take care of the GPG key?23:09
saprohyteok I'll search on how to do this. thanks23:09
yofelsaprohyte: I'll give you a command, sec23:09
Roeybtw, what exactly is the relationship between the PPA KDE maintainers and Kubuntu23:10
jmichaelxyofel: if it detects that, will 'all effects' likely be empty then?23:10
macoi think it should be:  sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 02FDF93223:10
Roeywho exactly maintains PPA23:10
yofelsaprohyte: maco was faster23:10
jmichaelxyofel: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2)23:10
saprohytecompletely worked23:11
saprohytethanks yofel and maco23:11
jmichaelxRoey: if you were right , and i was wrong, i will be incensed23:11
jmichaelxok, maybe not incensed23:12
yofelRoey: the kubuntu ppa is maintained by the kubuntu devs23:12
Roeygot it23:12
yofelrevcieves a bit less Q/A though23:12
jmichaelxyofel: i'd have slipped you a 20 to keep you from saying that23:12
RoeyDAMN THIS PPA MAINTAINERS, WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE!!23:13
Roey;)23:13
macohumans?23:13
* jmichaelx concedes to Roey23:13
* Roey gives jmichaelx a beer23:13
* jmichaelx GLADLY drinks beer with gratitude23:13
Roey:) what do you drink.. I like local brews23:13
jmichaelxsame here... we have some good one here in indiana23:14
yofeljmichaelx: just to make sure everythings alright there, please pastebin your /var/log/Xorg.0.log23:14
jmichaelxyofel: http://pastebin.com/5Z1Swsg823:15
yofelok, want a sledgehammer to hit kwin? I would do it. Now let's see...23:18
yofelcan you go to desktop effects -> advanced and try to switch the compositing type? maybe check 'disable functionality checks'23:18
jmichaelxyofel: it will not let me disable functionality checks, i will try changing compositing type23:19
jmichaelxyofel: i did just successfully change to Xrender23:20
yofeland what happens if you change back?23:20
jmichaelxyofel: apparently a number or effects will not work under Xrender?23:20
=== administrator is now known as Guest68481
yofelindeed, most effects need opengl23:21
jmichaelxyofel: upon trying to change back, i get "failed to activate desktop effects....."23:21
yofelduh..23:21
jmichaelxyofel: duh?23:22
yofeljust me getting annoyed, since this doesn't make sense..23:22
yofelthe nvidia driver is obviously working fine as the xorg.log shows o.O23:23
jmichaelxyofel: not that it makes any difference, but under Xrender i am now able to select 'disable functionality checks'. woth opengl, it would not let me do that23:23
jmichaelxwith*23:23
yofelodd23:24
jmichaelxyofel: i think maybe you caught that i did not have this problem until i installed some packages from the kubuntu ppa a few minutes ago23:24
jmichaelxyofel: also, the 'all effects' menu is still empty23:25
yofelwhat I don't get is 'KWin has detected that your OpenGL library is unsafe to use, falling back to XRender. '23:26
jmichaelxyea23:26
jmichaelxyofel: there was also a kernel upgrade today, and the issue may be there.... but the empty 'all effects' menu lead me to thinking this was a KDE problem23:27
jmichaelxyofel: i should have upgraded the kernel first, then the KDE packages :-)23:27
Roeyuh-oh, you see, now I'm glad I did not reboot23:27
jmichaelxRoey: you installed these same packages, perhaps, but have not rebooted?23:28
Roeylemme check my deb lines one sec23:28
Roey# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/beta/ubuntu maverick main # disabled on upgrade to maverick disabled on upgrade to maverick23:28
Roey# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu maverick main # disabled on upgrade to maverick disabled on upgrade to maverick23:28
Roeyoh thank fucking god23:28
FloodBotK1Roey: Please don't flood, use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste, don't use Enter as punctuation.23:28
Roeymy bad23:29
Roey(thank god I had left it commented out)23:29
jmichaelxRoey: have a modicum of respect, who knows what deities lurk in these channels!23:29
jmichaelxRoey: yea23:29
jmichaelxwell, the is my workstation at my place of employment. i did the same upgrade at home on one machine, and not the other.... glad i didn't do both23:30
Roeyheh23:31
jmichaelxalthough using Xrender, things are functional enough23:31
Roeywouldn't it be nice to have a 'roll way the f*** back' feature to recover a system from a bad upgrade?23:31
jmichaelxsudo apt-get roll-teh-back -F23:32
yofelI'm a bit out of ideas here, you could try the newer nvidia driver from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ maybe if that's the issues (but why would it...)23:32
yofelRoey: I think that's actually planned once btrfs get's stable, since it has internal snapshot support23:33
jmichaelxyofel: yeah, i thought about doing that, but i have my doubts that the problem lies there23:33
Roeyyofel:  oh wonderful!23:33
* jmichaelx is so looking forward to btrfs23:33
yofelfor now you would have to use LVM to use snapshots23:33
jmichaelxwe have a backup server here that is already running ubuntu+btrfs23:35
Roeyis btrfs ready for the desktop?23:36
Roeyperformance-wise?23:36
Roeyand stability-wise?23:36
RoeyI keep seeing chanign statistics on Phoronix test23:36
Roey*tests23:36
jmichaelxok, i may check back in after i get home.... i think i only upgraded the kernel on the one desktop, but i think it is still using KDE4.5.2, so maybe the situation will be different23:36
yofelRoey: from the other ubuntu testers that tried it in maverick I heard that it's rather slow, but that should probably improve in natty with 2.6.37/3823:37
jmichaelxRoey: it is not recommended for production.... but as test environment/backup environment, it's very usable23:37
jmichaelxthanks all for all the help23:38
