[05:05] vish, a message to you? [05:07] nisshh: well, i often have a 'ping' from stlsaint at 4am my time, but when i'm around he isnt.. so i dont know what he wants.. :( [05:07] vish, ah, i see, sure i can do that [05:07] oh, the last one was at 7.. though ;) [05:08] nisshh: thanks :) [05:08] np :) === bilalakhtar is now known as ba === ba is now known as bilalakhtar === nigelbabu is now known as nigelb [09:55] Hi! === nhandler_ is now known as nhandler === cfmcguire_ is now known as cfmcguire === evilnhandler_ is now known as evilnhandler === andreas_ is now known as anoteng === ansgar_ is now known as ansgar [12:50] Hey guys. Anyone about? [12:51] maybe [12:51] lol :) [12:52] Its bug 119707 I'm looking at at the mo. Not too sure what should be done with this, I don't wanna go ahead and ask if it affets Maverick (I haven't been able to reproduce it) since it'd mail like 100+ people [12:52] Launchpad bug 119707 in synaptic (Ubuntu) (and 2 other projects) "Apt crashes with SIGSEGV in pkgCache::FindPkg() on corrupted pkgcache.bin (affects: 256) (dups: 47) (heat: 31)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/119707 [12:53] it's an odd one isn't it - triaged ~1 year ago [12:53] It is :S [12:54] I'm surprised bugcontrol hasn't been subscribed [13:02] xteejx: that's because the original bug tracked by apport was marked as a dup of that one. The retracer ignores such bugs then, plus we don't subscribe BC anymore [13:02] gone -.- === quux is now known as matti [13:27] Hello Bugsquad [13:27] I'm looking at a page on debugging nautilus here : http://live.gnome.org/Nautilus/Development/Bugs [13:28] and I've never seen a ~/nautilus-debug-log.txt in my whole life [13:29] is there a way to enable this file? === JanC_ is now known as JanC === decoder_ is now known as decoder [14:51] hello, good morning/afternoon/evening. is anyone up at the moment? i am using netbook Compaq Mini CQ10-525DX, came with win7 starter and i have put Ubuntu Netbook Remix on. i noticed how efficiently cool win7 ran, and am noticing higher heat output with Ubuntu. My assumption at first was file access thus heating the HD. the heat is primarily the lower left corner where the memory module is located and i assume also the v [14:51] ideo processor. i would very much like the heat to go away, but if the best i can get is an explanation why Linux would be pushing video-intensive then i will also be happy. any assistance? also i realize this is not necessary a bug in the traditional sense of the word, but it "bugs" me... thanks in advance [14:54] crimsonmane, Inefficient power usage is a well known issue with 10.10 netbook [14:55] that sounds like a slight danger to my hardware, would you agree? [14:56] may i ask if 10.04 would be any better? through my searching, although nothing heat related turned up, i did read about 10.10 being the worst release in history for its bugs (although hardwiring to internet and updating has fixed any of my own issues thus far, such as wireless cards) [14:58] crimsonmane, i believe it has something to do with mutter [14:58] canonical are porting Unity to Compiz [15:00] didn't it always need compiz? (or do you mean wayland?) [15:00] wait, nvm [15:02] it was mentioned that some video tweeks can bring a lower temp ... i do not know how to tweek anything with linux yet. [15:03] !mutter [15:03] Factoid 'mutter' not found [15:03] what video card does that pc have? [15:04] can you walk me through the command to see? [15:04] open a terminal and run: lspci | grep VGA [15:05] crimsonmane: mutter is the window manager in 10.10 netbook edition [15:05] it's also the window manager for gnome shell (which ubuntu won't use) [15:06] thanks virtuald. yofel i am looking for terminal... they moved it in this netbook version gonna take me a minute [15:06] crimsonmane: I think you can press alt+f2 and run gnome-terminal [15:07] oh man shortcuts :) i found it under applications. ok one sec plz [15:08] 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller [15:09] then I would blame mutter, the intel driver should have proper power management [15:11] can i get into mutter and play with any tweekable settings as someone else suggested? or would using a different version instead of the netbook version fix this? i could use 10.04 or 10.10 desktop version and use the docking addon to create the same environment that netbook presents? [15:11] crimsonmane: no idea, I don't use netbook, and this isn't a support channel anyway, you'll probably get more help in #ubuntu or #ubuntu-beginners [15:12] crimsonmane, if you are feeling adventurous you can install a daily build of Natty(11.04) [15:12] it has compiz based unity [15:12] ssj6akshat: that would be *very* adventurous currently.... [15:12] thanks yofel. your help has been valuable and i thank you for knowing all that you do, and for sharing [15:12] no problem [15:13] ssj6akshat: how do i open a pm window with you? [15:13] * penguin42 is running up-to date natty; it doesn't seem to be using unity [15:14] crimsonmane, try /msg ssj6akshat [15:15] mind you, something isn't that happy with 3d - glxgears isn't running at monitor referesh rate for some odd reason [15:16] ssj6akshat i can look up Natty and learn a bit, and adventures are indeed worth exploring. i have 10 more days to explore this netbook before the return policy expires. so is compiz being included with linux now as a base without having to DL ? [15:17] * penguin42 wonders why bug 678125 is showing up on the Hot Bugs list [15:17] * penguin42 looks at ubot2 [15:17] Launchpad bug 678125 in openoffice.org (Ubuntu) (and 1 other project) "No A6 format preset in 'page' dialog (affects: 1) (heat: 3256)" [Wishlist,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/678125 [15:18] crimsonmane: Natty is very much in development; if it doesn't work or does something odd don't assume that's what the final natty will do; heck if it works don't assume the final natty will! [15:19] lol if something doesn't work then i'll either come back to talk about it, or post it in the forum where it belongs! [15:20] alright i'm going to tinker some more. again thank you all so much for your expertise. your knowledge is not a cheeseburger and i thank you for sharing. [15:20] so that bug is a triaged wishlist (which upstream have just fixed) - why is it hot? [15:25] * yofel considers heat: 3256 as quite hot [15:26] then again, where does that heat come from o.O? [15:27] yeh it's odd - I mean it's one I looked at a week or so ago, really minor thing, that had happened to get fixed a couple of weeks ago [15:27] it's only got 2 votes on the OOo tracker [15:51] penguin42, you first need to add ppa:unity/ppa, install unity and then choose the unity plugin from compiz config settings manager [15:51] oh, I'll just wait for it to find it's way into the main natty then === erhesrhsrtb54vyh is now known as Elbrus [16:57] is it just me, or has the behaviour of copy/paste in gnome-terminals changed in the last week or so? [17:45] penguin42, i can't use ctrl+V to paste but instead have to use Shift+Insert [17:45] something is going on, not sure what === yofel_ is now known as yofel === jacob_ is now known as jacob === Richie_ is now known as WelshDragon
