[01:38] Morning all! [02:07] paultag: you around? [02:07] nigelb, can I ping you after I'm done with this quick thing? [02:08] paultag: sure :-) [06:27] aloha [06:28] Morning czajkowski :-) [07:54] Morning everyone o/ [07:55] Morning dholbach, kim0 [07:55] hey nigelb [07:55] morning dholbach [07:55] trying to learn GNU emacs is like repeatedly whacking myself in the head :) [07:56] nisshh: Learn vim, get rid of the evil emacs :p [07:56] good morning! [07:56] hi nigelb, hey kim0 [07:56] nigelb, i know vim, but i thought i would try emacs, try emacs == bad idea :) [07:57] nisshh: definitely [07:57] Morning ara [07:57] good morning nigelb, all [07:59] morning ara [08:15] good morning everyone! [08:15] Morning dpm [08:15] hey nigelb! [08:15] hey dpm [08:16] heya dholbach [08:19] dpm: howdy man [08:21] morning kim0 :) [08:21] hey :) [08:27] 'lo all [08:27] Morning duanedesign [08:27] hy duanedesign [08:27] hi [08:27] oh no, new server has a confusing timezone [08:27] morning all [08:28] Oh, right UTC, okay :D [08:29] boy I got absolutely nothing accomlished this wweekend. Kinda nice :) [08:30] duanedesign: well rest is an accomplishment too [08:33] for sure [10:27] duanedesign: sometimes you just need a weekend like that [10:29] hmm there are 61 approved teams and only about 26 approved teams have requested and sent in their details for the canonical gift [10:34] czajkowski: hrr [10:34] has it been well advertised? [10:35] jussi: yes for weeks [10:35] is the gift awesome? :D [10:35] but I suspect many people are not on the loco contacts list and passing information on [10:35] ahh yes [10:36] perhaps grabbing people individually on irc? (about 40 people, no?) [10:37] jussi: well there is that, but that's rather time consuming and they should be filtering the information correctly. :s [10:37] czajkowski: yes, but still, you would find out why it isnt getting to people [10:38] I can help out if needed - just give me a list of irc nicks [10:38] jussi: it's ok will deal with it later this week thanks. will spread it over the LC [10:39] czajkowski: no probs, if you need a hand, just shout [10:43] thanks [10:57] I'd let it fail tbh [10:58] the people who really want/need stuff will be subscribed to the relavent rss feeds / lists [10:58] if they aren't then what does that say about their involvement? [10:58] :s [10:58] there's method in my madness [10:59] so lets suppose some of the teams that get the gift blog about it, or announce somehow what they got [10:59] there has to be a first I suspose :p [10:59] *supose [10:59] then someone who was eligible and didnt get one (because they didnt know) sees it [10:59] we can figure out _what_ communication channel(s) are being used ineffectively [11:00] hmm [11:00] if someone says "Hey! That's not fair, I didnt get one!".. "Did you apply?" "no" "Why not" "I didnt know", "Are you on loco-contacts" "no" Bingo! [11:00] well we should have the loco contacts mailing list resolved soon tbh [11:01] where we mail the teams directly [11:01] that helps :) [11:04] Charlie from IS ROCKS! [11:04] :D [11:07] he does? [11:07] Oh, I mean, he does! [11:08] ;) [11:08] ;] [11:21] jturek: Hey man, ping me once you're up [13:27] well that was an ordeal and a half to get my NI interview part II done [13:27] crazyness [13:32] * nigelb hugs czajkowski :-) [13:34] czajkowski: at least it's done? [13:35] yes [13:35] I think so [13:36] will know in 4 weeks time [13:36] czajkowski: What interview is it? [13:37] oh, insurance, google ftw [13:38] National Insurance [13:38] UK equiv of Social Security in the USA [13:38] \o/ Health Service [13:40] popey: more useful since it does automatically get you health care :P [13:41] but just such a PITA over A) me having a british passport years ago, but being on file, and then my signatiures not matching [13:46] signatures not matching is such PITA [13:47] One tends to forget signatures over the years [13:47] I cry seeing my signature on the passport; if I have to change that, I have to now apply for another passport :/ [14:04] morning dholbach [14:05] dholbach: don't reset the line yet please, I think jono is going to add me more tasks [14:05] jcastro, I just set it to a new point in the upper left corner [14:05] oh ok [14:05] that's what I meant === akgraner` is now known as akgraner [14:27] https://twitter.com/#!/alketii/statuses/9236742662000640 sooo true! [14:28] bug 162904 [14:28] Launchpad bug 162904 in gnome-utils (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu not listed in dictionary (heat: 2)" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/162904 [14:28] popey: dynf [14:29] ty [14:30] so if the bug is invalid how does one get it rectified [14:32] its not a bug [14:32] if it's "invalid" [14:32] Get it listed in one of the databased that dict.org uses. freedoc may be a good place. [14:33] popey: non feature [14:33] foldoc, sorry, not freedoc. [14:34] Well, its debateable [14:34] http://search.oed.com/?index=150402&calln=3&lastq=&sortsel=rel&psel=all&opt=ANY&query=bunt&corr=ubuntu [14:34] British English dictionary OED says "not a word" [14:34] so why would you add it to one? [14:35] it would be like adding 'costa' to the dictionary because someone types Costa Coffee [14:35] http://foldoc.org/template.cgi?submit.html&R=sendnew [14:35] whilst we might all thing Ubuntu _should_ be in the dictionary because _we_ use it a lot, not sure that means it should be. [14:36] Microsoft is in the jargon file, but newer stuff like "iphone" isn't [14:37] Microsoft isn't in the dictionary either, last time I looked. [14:38] Some of dict.org's databases have more encyclopedic type entries. [14:39] ahh but in open office if you type microsoft it corrects it to Microsfot [14:39] *Microsoft [14:39] it gives the squiggle underline for ubuntu [14:40] What about for 'squiggle' ? [14:42] Pici: no issue [14:42] Well thats unacceptable :P [15:08] popey: I thought youtube was doing all new uploads into webm, do you know how to force it here for example: http://www.youtube.com/ubuntudevelopers [15:11] not off the top of my head jcastro [15:11] I convert all mine to webm myself ;) [15:53] hey all [15:54] mornin jono [15:56] hey cjohnston [15:56] jono: Morning o/ === txwikinger2 is now known as txwikinger [15:59] hey kim0 [15:59] about ready? [17:25] dholbach, screw mumble [17:25] :) [17:25] lol [17:25] it doesn't work for me [17:25] no, screw skype [17:25] no [17:25] jono: that's a friendly attittude :p [17:25] screw mumble :-) [17:25] lol [17:26] maybe at the sprint you can have somebody have a look at it [17:26] dholbach, the issue is the server [17:26] not my connection [17:26] aha? [17:26] as skype always works perfectly [17:26] let's discuss in skype [17:27] and mumble has caused lots of other folks issues on the cals [17:27] yup [17:34] * popey tickles dholbach [17:39] jono, seems like there is some issues with meeting times after the time change - can you remind mangers to double check their meeting times on the Fridge Calendar and if something needs updating just send me an email and I'll get that fixed for them [17:42] popey: hello [17:44] popey: ok read the scrollback. [20:24] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUAzicy_01o [20:25] here is the keynote, the commercial ubuntu is the one that starts [20:25] just before the speech [20:25] http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] unimatrix9, http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] that one [20:25] \o/ I win [20:25] :-) [20:25] (just) [20:25] no you don't popey :-) [20:25] yeah great thanks [20:25] unimatrix9, http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] 20:25:17 < popey> http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] <--- winner :-) [20:25] 20:25:17 < jono> unimatrix9, http://design.canonical.com/2010/10/introducing-ubuntu-the-movie/ [20:25] :D [20:25] * popey gets out the millisecond logs [20:25] haha [20:26] brb [20:26] now now boys, :) [20:26] wich one is the best ... lol [20:26] popey: first here :D [20:26] hmm need to work out how to get to stansted airport [20:26] * czajkowski goes to maps. [20:26] stanstead is horrid to get to from here czajkowski [20:26] it's exactly the opposite side of london [20:27] so you either go through or round [20:27] both sub-optimal [20:27] oh and a train strike [20:27] lovely [20:27] czajkowski: 1. hail cab 2. say "stanstead airport please" 3. wait 4. pay money 5 you are there [20:27] +1 [20:27] jussi: not from here... [20:27] ahhh the old irish joke... [20:27] train strike until when? [20:27] still flight isn't till 8pm so not bad on the sunday [20:28] sense: 24hrs liek yesterday/todays one [20:28] I need to take the train from Stansted 7 December. [20:28] czajkowski: Do you expect more actions? [20:29] no idea [20:30] they are threatening [20:30] news to me. I just listen to the annoucements at the station [20:30] I'll keep an eye on the announcements. [20:36] sense: what are you doing over here? [20:37] czajkowski: Application interviews at King's College in Cambridge at 8 December. :) [20:37] Computer Science, of course. [20:37] lovely [20:38] Exciting and uncertain. 7 out of 10 get an invitation for an interview, but only 1 out of 5 get an offer for a place. [20:42] dear housemates get off my internet you are slowing it down [20:42] why college in the UK ? [20:43] sense: it was because of the LoCo wasn't it :) [20:43] czajkowski: :P They scared me away! [20:43] ff [20:43] Because I want to improve my spoken English, because the institution has such a good name, because I want to study in a place where academic excellence is important and because I do not trust our government to assure the quality of our education in the future. [20:43] what day do you go back ? [20:44] czajkowski: I arrive at 7, have the interviews at 8 and leave the same evening. [20:44] I will hear in January whether I will get a place or not. [20:44] Which is about the start of the Dutch university hunting season, so I will know the results for certain in time. [20:44] best of luck [20:45] thanks [20:46] http://www.tilburguniversity.edu/ [20:47] Dutch universities are generally reasonably good (there isn't much difference between them in general), but be careful with what calls itself a university. The word 'universiteit' is protected by law, but the word 'university' is not. [20:48] The result is that some schools that would call themselves 'hogeschool' (literally high school, but that is an incorrect translation) in Dutch call them 'university' in English. You would call it polytechnic school, I guess. It's the step below university, comparable to the lesser American unis. [20:48] I think Tilburg is a real one. [20:48] :) [20:49] i think so too... [20:49] its just around the corner , from my house , and looks real ... [20:49] :P [20:50] :) [20:51] czajkowski: Ubuntu NL is becoming less scary over time, though. I've almost finished a report (of course I write a report, I'm Dutch!) of a proposal for a new organisational structure. [20:52] :) [20:53] i am still scary ... [20:53] Sure you are! But I can live with that. ;) [20:54] pssss, just dont mention me in your report, then you ll be okey [20:54] unimatrix9: sense is scarier though - Ive met him :D [20:54] oh, that a relief [20:55] is [20:56] Me? Scary? [20:56] very :D [21:01] bye all, have a nice night [21:18] afternoon friends [21:21] http://www.thevarguy.com/2010/11/29/canonical-planning-rolling-releases-for-ubuntu/ [21:21] I can't believe people still are writing this [21:24] why do people bother making posts A) days after everyone else has B) days after everyone else has been refuted? [21:24] must be the ad money [21:24] Like, if you're posting it days after everyone else has, you don't matter [21:25] Nobody gives a crap once they've read it 15 other place [21:32] * Joeb454 makes generic comment against rolling release [22:03] It is my turn to start the next internet Ubuntu rumor [22:03] maco, always the ad money [22:03] pays per click [22:04] 5 days after everyone else posted? not gonna get clicks... [22:06] it will do [22:07] Technoviking: so what's the rumour? [22:07] I think button in the middle of screen or changing name Unitybuntu [22:07] ubuntu's switching to being based on fedora [22:08] maco: better yet, SLED:) [22:09] hahah yes [22:09] canonical is buying SLED from Novell [22:11] in partnership with Microsoft [22:12] with a codeshare agreement :-) [22:13] Canoni-soft [22:13] * JFo takes it there [22:14] how about all Ubuntu system sound to be recorded by Severed Fifth:) [22:14] heh [22:15] the startup sound is jono screaming something :) [22:15] hahaha [22:16] JFo: Jono rowling COMMUNITY!!! [22:16] oh oh oh this is an april release! excellent! [22:16] jono: can you please record that for april fools lulz? [22:16] either that or he will be saying "That is one TASTY cupcake!" Followed by elmo laughing [22:17] I rather like that idea ^ [22:17] elmo the sesame street character or elmo the sysadmin? [22:17] elmo the sysadmin [22:17] which reminds me [22:17] * JFo goes to buy a good field recorder [22:17] :) [22:18] I need to dub over video of Elmo from Seseme street saying "For F*#k Sakes" [22:18] hahahaha [22:21] later all [22:21] see ya Technoviking [22:21] * JFo takes off as well [22:21] got in at work at 6am today, time to head home
