[07:25] trippedoutfish: Welcome to #ubuntu-us-ca [07:28] catastrophe: Why thank you :D [17:04] 'morning everyone. [17:06] yantrashilpi: Good morning. [17:09] nhaines: Hope everything is well... I forget are you in the bay area? [17:09] was wondering when our next ubuntu hour was going to be. [17:12] yantrashilpi: there will be one in san francisco on wednesday [17:12] http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-california has the list of upcoming stuff [17:12] i'm assuming that's a week from now :)... I unfortunately don't have the DeLorean that Marty had access to. [17:13] or the plutonium [17:14] yes, on the 8th [17:14] World of Goo is now for sale in the Software Center. I highly recommend it. Awesome awesome game. [17:15] got it, thanks pleia2 [17:15] :) [17:16] yantrashilpi: I'm in the LA area actually. :) [17:17] Also World of Goo is great and I recommend it as well. :) [17:17] nhaines: ahh yes I remember now, we were talking about it a few weeks back. [17:42] oh, I forgot to ask, is osmos available for sale in the SC yet? [17:55] jussi: I don't think so. [17:55] only 5 apps total for sale right now [17:55] someone should get them onboard [17:56] jdeslip: what are they? [17:56] * jussi is on the phone atm. so sorry if replies are slow [18:01] Brukkon, Vendetta Online and World of Goo (which are all games) [18:01] Fluendo DVD Player and Fluendo Coded Packs [18:02] codec that is [18:31] osmos is pretty cool. i brought it over on my netbook on thanksgiving to my folks house and people said it looked lame, next thing you know everyone wanted to try it! [18:32] steel storm is pretty neat game too. [18:33] the new version of tuxcart is nice as well! :p [18:39] I don't see any purchasable apps in Software Center over here. I know my laptop has two apps listed. [18:40] nhaines: Is your machine Maverick? Paid apps don't show on Lucid and below [18:44] jdeslip: all my machines are running Ubuntu 10.10 and have a "For Purchase" icon. [18:44] Which is why I can see two apps on my laptop. [19:04] Strange that they don't show up :/ [19:18] aaditya, can I ask you a php question? [19:19] http://zareason.com/shop/Submit-Action-Shots.html Why does the pic appear on a few machines just fine, and wont render on my Chrome or FF browser [19:20] Or anyone else that knows more php than me, which is basically everybody [19:31] MarkDude: the image URL is https://zareason.com/shop/admin/getfile.php?file=%2FMarkinpenguininBART500.JPG [19:31] which gives normal users "access denined" [19:31] denied [19:31] are you logged in to some kind of zareason administrative interface when you do your tests that work? [20:01] wiki: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects edited | http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/WhoDoesWhat edited | http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/Website edited | http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/Planet edited [20:12] ty very much pleia2 - we have someone trying to fix it [20:14] sure [21:25] team reports are due saturday morning, so if anyone has anything to add: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/TeamReports/10/November [21:37] wiki: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/November (nonexistent) | http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/TeamReports/10/November edited | http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/TeamReports/Current edited [21:45] wiki: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Meetings/10December05 edited [21:50] I'll actually be in town this month but guessing no hours or such the last week of the year ;) [21:52] there is one down in Santa Cruz on the 29th [21:53] and the SF one will go on as scheduled (dec 8th) [21:58] Great! [22:34] speaking of SF, where can I buy some seeds for spinach, lettuce, and potatoes. wait, potatoes i just need to bury a potato, right? [22:34] and some silliness for your viewing pleasure/!pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/user/BalloonShop#p/u/81/xgLvHAKJJF0 [22:43] I usually go to hardware stores like OSH, or Target, for plants, but seeds you can probably get even at Safeway or Walgreens. [22:44] And yeah, I think for potatoes you can cut into sections and bury them (haven't tried it myself). [22:48] yeah, i couldn't find an OSH in san francisco. i don't get what the whole so san francisco thing is. anyway, i found something close: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=gardening&sll=37.782112,-122.480049&sspn=0.076655,0.154324&ie=UTF8&t=h&rq=1&ev=zi&radius=5.06&split=1&hq=gardening&hnear=&ll=37.783028,-122.484469&spn=0.019163,0.038581&z=15&iwloc=D [22:48] which was very surprising [22:50] I remember when I worked in SF and it was impossible to buy hardware, and I kept having to drive to the south bay for auto parts. [22:50] There's probably a Target or similar at Serramonte. [22:51] there are a few Ace hardware stores around here [22:51] beyond that we tend to go to specialty stores, electric, lighting, etc (cater to contractors and individuals) [22:52] I'm sure there are nurseries somewhere in SF, but you shouldn't need to find a specialty nursery just to buy seeds. [22:52] Of course you can buy seeds online too. [22:53] there is a fancy grocery store in the basement of the westfield that probably sells seeds too [22:55] well, it's probably good to buy seeds at a nursery, support the mom and pop stores, instead of the faceless corporations [22:55] they couldn't charge that much more, could they? [22:56] Seeds are fairly cheap even from an expensive nursery. [22:57] yeah, i would think [22:57] $4-5/bag maybe from an expensive place, $2 from a place like a supermarket. [22:58] so hey, if you guys are bored, you can look up your mayan horoscope: http://13moon.com/decoder.htm === erichammond1 is now known as erichammond [23:40] someone said seeds? [23:42] seidos... i recommend baker creek seeds. they are well known back east and i think they opened up a flagship store somewhere near you... peteluma? [23:42] http://rareseeds.com/ [23:42] http://rareseeds.com/petaluma-seed-bank/ [23:43] might make for a fun excursion [23:43] im sure they have garlic bulbs and potato "seeds" [23:43] the potatos in the store have been treated and most likely wont grow. [23:44] although if you get some organic potatos from whole foods or similar store you might have luck if they werent treated [23:44] potatoes [23:44] :) [23:45] I would also like to recommend Freedom Seeds down here in Pasadena. http://freedomseeds.org/ [23:46] A small family that grows their own crops (6000 lbs a year) at their home is also now selling heirloom and open pollinated seeds [23:46] All of the seeds Ive bought from both companies have done very well. [23:49] There is also PLENTY of free seeds all over the internet if you "dig" around. lots of seed exchanges. I found one lady up in canada who grows strickly russian varieties of tomatoes... and she sent me some seeds. [23:49] im looking through my links now for some free seed sites [23:50] that's pretty cool [23:51] http://www.seedsofchange.com/ guarantees their seeds to be organic since they grow and collect the seeds themselves (as does freedom seeds) [23:54] If you dont have a lot of space, consider square foot gardening.. http://www.squarefootgardening.com/ [23:57] * MarkDude has the cape goosberry seeds that are almost ready [23:59] free tomato seeds here (SASE) ... http://wintersown.org/wseo1/YourChoiceTomatoSASE.html
