Volkodavanybody had freezing system on screensaver in xfce ?05:17
coz_hey all06:29
coz_ok guys a couple things.... let me post the first one... when rebooting .. i consistently get this ...   http://dl.dropbox.com/u/132551/screenshots/Screenshot-Untitled%20Window.png06:30
coz_The second issue... those that know me know that I do installations...repairs etc etc... and almost all of my home users have been switched over to ubuntu ... however... I  know they are not going to like  /natty/compiz/unity  ... I need to know if there is a way to switch it off to get to normal gnome desktop.... the reason I believe there may be... is that before installing my nvidia driver i was indeed a the notrmal gnome desktop... top and bot06:35
coz_tom panels both active... so any suggestions?  O f course i can keep most of them on lucid  but I can think of about 10 of them that want the "latest & greatest"  and I know they wont want this06:35
coz_"top" panels06:35
rwwcoz_: yes. There'll be an option on the login screen for it.06:35
coz_rww,  very cool06:35
coz_rww,  at this stage  ... no possibility?06:36
rwwThere isn't one there already? Thought there was. Huh.06:36
coz_rww,  i will check ,,, for some reason  grub did not see my windows drive...06:36
coz_I can log off and check a bit later06:37
coz_rww,   yes there is the option ...thanks  I feel much more comfortable :)06:44

penguin42Well, it's survived into compiz today12:13
penguin42has anyone seen a manual for unity - something that describes how to use it and key strokes etc?12:39
geserif you find one, let me know12:58
geserI fought yesterday with unity until I got told why my application switching doesn't work anymore12:58
vishpenguin42: no manuals yet.. but if it would need a manual would not be a good sign.. ;)12:59
penguin42vish: Well I can't figure out how to remove or add anything from the bar13:14
* penguin42 has loads of junk on it that I think it picked up from what was on my panel13:15
vishpenguin42: for adding, check the 'pin to launcher' , for removing uncheck it..13:15
penguin42vish: Where is 'pin to launcher'13:15
vishpenguin42: you are talking about the launcher on left, right?  or the top one?13:16
penguin42vish: The left13:16
vishpenguin42: yea, just right-click on the icons and you will have the options.13:16
penguin42ok, the bar doesn't want to respond at all at the moment, let me trying giving it a kick13:17
vish:)13:17
charlie-tcaThat's because it only works part-time. You probably want to do something on it's time off.13:19
penguin42hmm well trying to enable/disable it in compuiz config and compiz seg'd, and a compiz --replace has restarted it but the unity bars haven't come back13:21
* penguin42 logs out and back in13:35
penguin42sigh13:38
penguin42so I've restarted, the compiz bar is back, but is mostly but not entirely unresponsive13:39
penguin42I think there is a problem with it not taking focus13:40
BUGabundoboas13:56
charlie-tcaGood morning14:00
yofelhey14:00
BUGabundoo/14:00
* penguin42 keeps getting alerts for FF saying I've finished a test pilot and it's ready to submit data, but more info doesn't tell me what it's going to submit14:01
yofelmicahg: ^14:01
yofelit did show me some graph when I clicked on more info though14:01

odinsbaneanybody have some screen shots lying around?15:21
UndiFineDodinsbane, of ?15:22
odinsbanethe unity interface.15:22
UndiFineDno i have not15:22
odinsbaneI don't quite understand the difference with the change from the 'gnome-shell', which I have never installed, to unity.15:23
jpdsodinsbane: Ubuntu has never used GNOME Shell.15:24
odinsbaneI saw an article awhile back regarding ubuntu's choice to go with unity over the gnome-shell.15:25
charlie-tcaunity was designed for netbook screens, where the resolution is wide across but narrow up & down15:25
odinsbaneSo is unity a replacement for gnome?15:26
charlie-tcaIt does not replace gnome, any more that gnome-shell replaces gnome15:28
ali1234so in other words totally?15:28
charlie-tcano15:29
charlie-tcaMost of gnome is still used, but it does replace metacity15:29
penguin42odinsbane/ali1234: As far as I can tell, it is now primarily a compiz plugin and a hack to redirect the menus into one panel15:30
ali1234and a totally new set of panels15:30
charlie-tcaso, a different looking window manager does not replace the applications used.15:31
ali1234the applications are gtk, not gnome15:32
charlie-tcaum, no15:32
ali1234gnome is: the panels at the top and bottom of the screen15:32
charlie-tcawhat is gedit?15:32
penguin42ali1234: No15:32
ali1234gedit is a text editor written in gtk15:32
penguin42ali1234: Gnome provides a lot of behind the scenes libraries and infrastructure on top of gtk15:32
charlie-tcagedit is "the" text editor for gnome15:33
BUGabundocharlie charlie charlie15:35
jpdsBUGabundo: Charlie the magical unicorn?15:35
BUGabundoyou are wrong15:35
charlie-tcaI am? than I apologize for saying that15:36
BUGabundognome-desktop IS a metapackage that gather a set of other packages to create an expected Desktop experience15:36
BUGabundogedit *is* one of those package15:36
BUGabundo*s15:36
BUGabundoGNOME or any other distro could easilly change the default editor, or even remove it15:37
charlie-tcaBUGabundo, you are, of course, more correct than I15:37
BUGabundoand ali1234 is correct on is statement15:37
odinsbaneWhich version of gnome is in natty?15:38
BUGabundo!info gnome15:38
ubottugnome (source: meta-gnome2): The GNOME Desktop Environment, with extra components. In component universe, is optional. Version 1:2.30+6ubuntu1 (natty), package size 2 kB, installed size 60 kB15:38

ubottuPackage kde does not exist in natty15:39
BUGabundonot that is any bit useful with the amount of auh pair personalizations Ubuntu devs do to it15:39
BUGabundoand have done over the last 2 years15:39
BUGabundo!info kde415:39
ubottuPackage kde4 does not exist in natty15:39

BUGabundo!info kubuntu15:40

charlie-tcaheh15:40
odinsbaneThis wayland change seems pretty impressive.  The unity part doesn't seem to apply to much to me.15:40
penguin42I think what you want is15:40
charlie-tcaTime to kick it yet ;-)15:40
penguin42!info kdebase-bin15:40
ubottukdebase-bin (source: kdebase): core binaries for the KDE base applications. In component main, is optional. Version 4:4.5.80-0ubuntu2 (natty), package size 269 kB, installed size 1248 kB15:40
odinsbaneI found a screen cast for natty , but it is really lame.  They couldn't get their internet to work, and for that matter, I don't really care what firefox looks like.15:41
penguin42odinsbane: It is alpha1, so stuff not working is perfectly normal15:42
RichieIs there any quick fix to stop unity causing compiz to segfault?15:42
odinsbanepenguin42: I meant the screen cast was lame.15:42
BUGabundoRichie: I wishe15:42
penguin42Richie: I think you can disable unity, it certainly shows up as a plugin in compiz setting manager15:42
BUGabundoRichie: try logining with Classic Desktopfor now15:43
RichieBUGabundo: I use metacity anyway, never really liked compiz. I just fancied a look at unity :)15:43
odinsbaneSo are you guys using waylang?15:44
odinsbanewayland... and can you notice a difference.15:44
BUGabundoRichie: well Unity requires 3D support, which you can't get from metaticy15:46
BUGabundoodinsbane: waylang is a X implementation, based on X1115:47
odinsbaneI thought it was a completely new implementation that can act as an X server for transition purposes.15:47
BUGabundoit is not and Desktop Manager15:47
RichieBUGabundo: Aye I know. I'm not planning on using unity. Just wanted to be nosey and see what it's like.15:48
BUGabundono one in their right mind would do a NEW implementation of an X everiment15:48
BUGabundoit would take toooooooo long for all other apps to support it15:48
BUGabundoimpossible for a large and frequent release like Ubuntu15:48
BUGabundoRichie: launch a guest session, and check it out15:48
cozziemotoyou can log into calssic gnome session15:49
odinsbaneWayland should offer some improvements over the traditional x server especially in regards to compositing.15:50
penguin42BUGabundo: It depends, as more gets abstracted through the qt and gtk libraries then you can flip those and a lot of stuff might go with it15:51
BUGabundoahhhh16:43
ironsightis there a way I can tell unity to not decorate a window?16:43
BUGabundoI'm back16:43
BUGabundoleft in mid talk16:43
BUGabundodarn freenode16:43
ironsight(the case here being google chrome already has window controls on the application)16:44
ironsightalso, when I click the ubuntu button (top left corner) I notice it opens a nautilus window and has all the apps in no order. Can I create subfolders and stick my apps in subfolders?16:47
penguin42anyone run iscsi target or the like?16:53
BUGabundono16:53
penguin42it seems to have changed a bit in Natty16:54
penguin42where has the nominate for release stuff gone?16:56

penguin42micahg: Yeh there are graphs showing lots of stats but they don't show what info about you it's going to send, and given that some of the info in the graphs relates to passwords I'd like to know how abstract what's sent is17:47
=== mecduvar40ans is now known as zniavre
micahgpenguin42: there should be a way to disable it if you want17:49
penguin42yeh I can see that, I can't make an informed decision though17:49
JairunCalothHey guys, are there mirrors for Natty?18:07
BUGabundoyes18:08

Volkodavanybody has freezes on screensaver ?22:53
Sir_KonradSo should I grab the Alpha and start testing?22:55
bjsnideryou shoud do what your conscience and common sense tell you to do22:55
Sir_Konradbjsnider, basically I'm asking if I should get the Alpha 1 or a daily build...23:03
bjsniderif the daily build works it is preferred23:07
Sir_Konradbjsnider, I wonder if it works though. Guess I'll have to get both.23:18
charlie-tcadaily-live worked for an install here today23:20
Sir_KonradOk, I'll probably try can get that one.23:21
