=== zsh_ is now known as zsk [15:58] anybody here [15:59] ebel: hey [15:59] hiya [15:59] hello zacck how are you? [16:00] am good you guys havent eve registered the loco team in the loco page [16:01] ? [16:02] Ah :) [16:02] Well I suppose. [16:02] I'm actually not from Kenya. I'm in Ireland. [16:02] I was in kenya a few times, so I hang out here. [16:02] Do you know kensta? [16:03] he's sometimes on this irc channel and is interested in setting up a loco [16:04] no [16:04] i wanted to set up the loco afew days ago [16:04] but post poned it bit busy coz of exams [16:05] :) [16:05] Well there's nothing offical you need to do [16:06] yeah couldnt find the create page [16:06] lol [16:06] Well you don't need to create a loco first. And it's the loco council that creates them [16:06] The important thing is to run events. [16:06] i see [16:07] A LoCo is a Local Communit [16:07] i can do that [16:07] *Community [16:07] (run events) [16:07] So you should try to build a community [16:07] i see [16:07] a community of people in your area interested in ubuntu [16:07] yeah i have a number [16:07] like 50 or so [16:07] my campus alone [16:07] Cool! :) [16:08] i can look in other universities and what not [16:08] Cool! [16:08] Running events can be very easy. [16:08] the page only has 37 active members [16:08] running events = easiest [16:09] just call a codathon [16:09] Here in Ireland we have a monthly "Ubuntu Hour" where we meet up in a local pub and hang out [16:09] that's an option [16:09] you can have a release party for the last release that was out [16:09] yeah [16:09] Try to tell as many people about it as possible. facebook/twitter/local newspapers/etc. [16:09] or the next release when it comes out [16:10] you can get offical CDs when the release comes out if you are a LoCo [16:10] yeah ill do that after the papers see if i can have an event in late january [16:11] nice [16:11] well once you become an 'approved loco', which is where you show to the loco council that you do stuff regularly [16:12] ok [16:12] i see [16:12] which is cool. :) [16:12] lemme get some snacks [16:12] They are sending out some professionally printed banners for locos now [16:13] You should try to build your local community [16:13] Each community is different and will have different ways to communicate and work [16:13] IRC could be one, mailing lists, or face to face meetups [16:14] So try to use what works for you [16:14] if you want to be an approved loco then you'll need evidence that you do things. Emails to a mailing list, photos of past events, etc. help with this [16:24] it can happen with the right amount of work [16:25] hey later [16:48] hi ebel [16:49] hiya kensta87 [16:50] kensta87: there was someone else here zacck who wants to get more involved [16:51] ok [16:51] is he/she here [16:51] ebel:was he near [16:52] yeah in NRB I think [16:52] in university i think [16:52] ok [16:52] thats cool [16:53] atleats the room will be more active [16:53] yeah [16:53] you just missed them by like 5 minutes [16:55] wow [16:55] what a miss [16:55] was busy reading and doing some research [16:55] No worries :) [16:57] ok] [17:03] wow [17:04] what a long day its is
