[17:04] hi guys anyone got usb tvbox by trident with vendor id 6000 product id 0001 to work in linux? [17:04] obengdako: hey [17:05] holstein, hi! [17:06] hi guys anyone got usb tvbox by trident with vendor id 6000 product id 0001 to work in linux? [17:07] i would probably ask in #mythtv [17:07] okay i'll get there now [17:07] i cant find the compatibility list that i found once [17:08] hey, theres a #ubuntu-mythtv too :) [17:10] i got there and was asked to head to #linuxtv [17:10] doesnt look good http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=544298 [17:12] yeah not too good [17:13] i have a k-world card thats been in a static bag for a couple years now :/ [17:13] PCI [17:13] it wont 'give up the funk' in linux [17:13] it shows up in virtual box but it works with hisses and glitches since it is a usb and the data is flowing in bits to virtual box it doesn't give the best viewing pleasure so i have to get it to work in ubuntu [17:14] hehehe [17:14] at least its an inexpensive/old-ish device [17:14] i had a saa7134 compatible pcmcia card but i've changed my laptiop to one that doesn't have a pcmcia port so i bought this usb card [17:14] maybe you can craigslist it and get something more friendly [17:15] mike what is craigslist [17:15] ? [17:15] like ebay [17:15] online auction [17:16] obengdako: if you just bought it [17:16] maybe you can return it :) [17:16] well i returned a previous one that was an encore enutv-2 usb box [17:17] that one does not even show up in lsusb and it was giving problems to drivers and blue screen in windows [17:17] and got this replacement [17:18] lol where i am online shopping is not an alternative so ebay is way "far" for me holstein [17:19] being able to return it is ideal i say [17:19] sometimes you just gotta keep trying [17:19] maybe take the laptop with you [17:20] lsusb in there [17:20] and try seeing it with something [17:20] VLC or some capture app [17:21] i always take the laptop but like this one it show up in lsusb but there is no kernel module loaded for this one plus i assume there is a solution online until i hit the wall [17:22] lol [17:22] assume nothing [17:22] i can see quite a few devices in lspci [17:22] and lsusb [17:22] that dont work [17:22] sometimes support can be worked out [17:23] well that takes time [17:23] but there should be something plug and play [17:23] at a similar price [17:24] hmmm but where to get some here in Ghana would be a tough task for me [17:25] amazon [17:25] assuming you can find a compatibility list [17:25] the one i used to go to is gone :/ [17:26] well in Ghana to get a credit card or even a debit card to shop online would be cumbersome [17:26] i do need to get the compatibility list so i can know what not to buy [17:26] more cumbersome than writing a kernel module ;) [17:27] lol hehe that's rather even more cumbersome 'writing a kernel module' [17:27] obengdako: im sure you can sort it out [17:27] they can probably tell you in one of those myth channels where the compatibility list went [17:28] yep i'll try till i'm tired of the card [17:28] OR suggest some easy plug and play devices [17:28] maybe even tell you how to get started reverse engineering a driver :) [17:29] yep i saw a post right now about it doing some extraction from the .sys file to get fw files [17:29] obengdako: maybe using the windows driver [17:30] like the old wifi cards used to do it [17:30] yeah i'll see [21:17] Hello, is anyone here today? === virtu is now known as virtu_em_SP [23:28] holstein, i got my card to work [23:28] obengdako: congrats [23:28] holstein, are you there? [23:28] what was it? [23:28] a backport? [23:28] or something more challenging? [23:29] not really i had to modprobe tm6000 [23:29] nice [23:29] but after doing that i did not have firmware [23:29] so i used a perl script to extract them and then cp them to /lib/firmware [23:29] and that was it ! [23:30] so not really challenging [23:30] now i just have to figure out how to get the audio from the card [23:30] thats great :) [23:31] do you have any ideas before i start googling? [23:31] OH [23:31] about the sound? [23:31] whats the deal [23:31] you want sound from the USB tm6000? [23:32] aplay -l [23:32] yes man [23:32] and arecord -l [23:32] that should show you if its useable [23:32] i just did arecord -l [23:32] let me see aplay -l [23:33] i probably should modprobe tm6000-alsa [23:33] sure [23:33] and by the way i was looking for /dev/dsp and did not find it [23:34] has it been stripped in ubuntu meercat [23:34] ? [23:34] i dont think so [23:34] but, im still on lucid [23:35] is it that hda doesn't use it or just pulse has removed it completely? [23:35] do you have the device link? [23:35] in your installation [23:35] * holstein looking [23:36] you might be right [23:36] i dont find it [23:40] * obengdako still searching [23:41] http://www.khattam.info/solved-cant-open-devdsp-in-ubuntu-10-10-maverick-meerkat-2010-06-09.html [23:41] thats all i come up with [23:41] thanks checking the link [23:42] not very promising :/ [23:42] just kinda supports the theory [23:44] yeah i already know how to do that but thanks anyway for the link kinda lets me know that i should not expect the audio to be parsed there [23:44] hmmm [23:45] so mike where are you? pm [23:46] im in asheville north carolina US [23:46] i hope you remember where i'm from? [23:46] :/ [23:46] its been a while [23:46] Accra, Ghana [23:46] OH yea [23:47] i remember that from earlier [23:47] but i thought i had seen your nick before in here [23:47] way back [23:47] yes i've been on ubuntustudio for a while [23:48] obengdako: maybe before i was camped out here ;) [23:50] my girlfriends brother used to live in accra [23:50] i actually have a basic ubuntu setup with kde, sfce, kxstudio all wrapped in [23:50] last year? [23:50] couple years [23:51] wow that's cool [23:51] hes mostly in haiti now [23:51] oh i see [23:52] i can't believe we are having personal conversation in a public irc [23:52] channel [23:52] lol [23:52] plus it is even logged [23:52] i like to keep activity in here [23:52] as long as its not too personal [23:52] yeah i realised [23:52] i think it promotes use of the channel [23:52] and i dont think the higher-ups mind [23:53] as long as the primary function isnt neglected
