AlexZionhi everyone, I'm trying to install Lubuntu pona old pentium 3 machine , and it's quite impossible .....13:57
AlexZionto boot uo with live , needs 30 min and even more ...., is it normal !?! :O13:58
IAmNotThatGuynope13:58
IAmNotThatGuyI prefer you to get some Older LTS versions as the newer versions needs some good processor speed and RAM13:59
phillwAlexZion: take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp/MinimalInstall14:05
AlexZionnoway man , at moment I'm trying it on a P4 3.2 Ghz is the same , so......, I think Lubuntu is not ready yet !?!14:07
IAmNotThatGuyany recent *buntu versions needs at least 1 GB RAM14:07
IAmNotThatGuyAlexZion, ^14:08
AlexZionthat'swhy I was thinking to Lubuntu , they said something like "can boot on a machine very old...",I'm trying on P4 3.2 Ghz CPU with 2 gb of ram  and a 6600 nvidia with 256 ram , and to boot the live system more than 30 minut ......14:10
phillwAlexZion: the 256 RAM will be shared for graphics, so you may find yourself struggling with the live cd version. on older systems the dpkg step can take upto an hour.. People have it running quite happily on P3 with 256 MB ram.14:12
phillwAlexZion: have you run the self test on the CD yet?14:13
AlexZionI already tried everythink , seems to be ok , but nothing , the live or the installation  is impossible ........14:14
AlexZionI mean I'm trying it on a pc that runs very well Kubuntu 10.10 with everything ......14:15
AlexZionanyway, I'll leave for today ... is better .... I'll try tomorrow , maybe with something else ......14:16
AlexZionthanks anyway ......14:16

ubot5newbie: Samba is the way to cooperate with Windows environments. Links with more info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently and https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/windows-networking.html - Samba can be administered via the web with SWAT.14:38
phillwnewbie: if you are confident with the terminal, you can also use http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9614:40

bioterrornewbie, http://charlesa.net/tutorials/samba.php14:43
newbieI thought so but sure is a smart bot . Thanks bioterror14:43
IAmNotThatGuynewbie, added the appropriate archives to download?14:43

franciscoskype doesn't work in my lubuntu22:10
franciscoespecially the sound setup22:11
phillwfrancisco: you're not being ignored, if there is some one about with Skype knowledge they will reply. I do not use it. One other possible channel to try on is #ubuntu-beginners as we all use the same core system.22:13
franciscothank you phills22:13
franciscothank you phillw22:13

phillwhyperair: oops, I lost the offtopic channel when I updated for the Hug a Bug Day22:18
hyperaireh?22:18
hyperairphillw: what do you mean lost the offtopic channel? O_o22:18
AndrewMChyperair: in the /topic22:19
phillwhyperair: The topic for #lubuntu is: Lubuntu 10.10 has been released || Please use the Bit-Torrent to download at http://j.mp/lu-10-10 || Documentation can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu || There is a Hug a Bug day, all day on 10th December for Lubuntu, bring along your bugs :)22:19
hyperairAndrewMC: ah.22:20
hyperairhmm22:21
hyperairso what did it say previously?22:21
AndrewMChyperair: what phillw posted22:21
hyperairAndrewMC: what? i thought you said he lost the offtopic channel in the topic?22:22
hyperairit looks exactly the same as the current one, so what's wrong?22:22
AndrewMChyperair: what phillw just posted was what was there before /topic is what is there now22:22
phillwhyperair: I had ....22:22
hyperairer22:23
* hyperair is thoroughly confused22:23
franciscoi think i need a sound controler22:23

AndrewMCnow its.... Lubuntu 10.10 has been released || Please use the Bit-Torrent to download at http://j.mp/lu-10-10 || Off-topic discussion in #lubuntu-offtopic || Documentation can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu || There is a Hug a Bug day, all day on 10th December for Lubuntu, bring along your bugs :)22:23
phillwis the old topic, where I had managed to delete the reference to lubuntu-offtopic.22:23
hyperairah22:24
hyperairphillw: you could use past tenses, you know. you had me very thoroughly confused22:24
hyperair"the topic was.."22:24
phillwlost is the past tense of loose?22:24
hyperairlose22:24
hyperairloose means that something doesn't fit properly22:25
hyperairi.e. my pants is loose so it keeps slipping off22:25
hyperairyou probably didn't want to know that, and it's not true anyway, but it's a good example of a sentence22:25
phillwhyperair: now you know why have a 15 year lad from Brazil check my grammar :P22:25
hyperairlol22:25
hyperairphillw: well mixing up loose and lose is not as confusing as mixing up "is" and "was"22:26
hyperair"the topic currently is"22:26
hyperair"the topic was .... in the past"22:26
hyperairnow, if you drop the extras and replace was with is.. you pretty much get the meaning completely wrong, and it's not easily auto-correctable on the reader's end either. =p22:27
phillwI just pasted up what the topic was upon entry, as it was current until you altered it; "is" was correct.22:27
hyperairi altered it?22:27
hyperairi didn't alter the topic. O_o22:27
hyperair06:27:35 -!- Topic set by AndrewMC [] [Thu Dec  9 06:15:24 2010]22:27
phillwhyperair: ChanServ has changed the topic to is all I saw, I assumed it was you :P22:28
hyperairphillw: it looks like AndrewMC set the topic though, not ChanServ.22:29
hyperairand i think i didn't get teh topic change message, since i had just joined.22:29
phillwAndrewMC: is empowered to do so. The other reason I thought it was you is that you joined immediately after the change22:30
hyperairah22:30
hyperairgood timing huh >_>22:31
phillwbut AndrewMC also prefers to use Canserv22:31
phillw*chansev*22:31
hyperairmwahaha, i can mess with chanserv and blame it on AndrewMC then! >=D22:31
phillwlol22:42
