* marcog in california05:38
marcogjust visiting05:39
nlsthznmarcog: nice, hope u enjoy your visit (bit cold in the US now I think)05:44
marcogcalifornia's not too cold (about 15)05:46
marcogbut where i'm going next will be freezing05:46
marcogvail, colorado05:46
* marcog hates recruitement agencies05:47
marcogjust had another one contact me this week05:47
marcogthem: i'm recruiting for amazon and nimbula. let me know if you're interested blah blah05:47
superflyheh05:48
marcogme: sorry, already in direct contact with them05:48
superflyhaha05:48
marcogthem: i have another great company. let me know if you're interested05:48
marcogme: i'm interviewing at facebook and google (in the middle of replying to his other questions)05:48
marcogthem: good luck, bye05:48
superflyheh05:49
marcogbut seriously, they've only ever provided hype and no results from my experienced dealing with 4 in the past year05:51
nlsthznmarcog: nice when they contact you (means you got da skillz)... in my case I contact them, and they just ignore me05:54
marcognlsthzn: it's a combination of skills and online presence05:54
* nlsthzn decides that marcog is the man.05:55
marcoglol05:55
confluencyHaving a CV online is like pheromones for recruiters.05:56
confluencyDoesn't guarantee that they will actually read it properly. :P05:56
marcogconfluency: or that they can understand it05:57
confluencyI love it when I tell them I'm not interested and they ask me to give them my friends' email addresses.  Yeeeeeah, I'm going to do your job for you for free *and* help you spam my friends.05:57
marcogi've started getting enough recruiters contact me via linkedin about random crap i default ignore them all05:58
marcogi responded to the 1st and only 105:58
confluencyRecruiters are useful when you're looking for your first job, because even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day. ;)05:58
marcogresponse was they were looking for some marketing person05:58
marcogwtf?05:58
confluencyYeah, I kept getting these bizarre offers for a tech support position from one agent.  That agent is now in my killfile.05:58
nlsthznI have my CV on a few sites... still, they ignore it :D05:59
marcogsomeone needs to create a recruitment agency review site05:59
nlsthznI guess this is more of an IT problem05:59
marcogwhere you can go look them up and say "oh they fail, ignore"05:59
superflyhehe05:59
superflymarcog: that would be all of them :-P05:59
marcogcause i can't believe they're all terrible05:59
superflyat least all the ones I've dealt with06:00
marcogsame here06:00
confluencyThe problem is that IT recruitment is mostly done by people with no understanding of the field.  This works about as well as you would expect.06:00
superflyconfluency: yeah, precisely06:00
marcogconfluency: indeed06:00
superflybuzzword bingo06:00
marcogi spoke to a german recruiter when i interned at google06:00
superflyI saw one of those buzzword bingo sheets they use, it had "Windows Explorer" on there as a skill *facepalm*06:01
marcoghe came from one of the top recruitment agencies in switzerland06:01
marcoghe couldn't believe the experiences i had06:01
marcogapparently they are awesome up there06:01
marcogsuperfly: wat? you kidding right?06:01
superflymarcog: I wish I was06:01
confluencyI was once contacted by a really fantastic agent.  I went to a face-to-face interview with her because I was so impressed.  The next time I need a job I'll look her up -- if I can find her in my gmail archive. :/06:03
oomkoosmorning people06:08
nlsthznhi oomkoos,06:10
superflyhi oomkoos06:11
confluencyxpert.co.za !06:11
nlsthznconfluency: that didn't work06:11
superflyconfluency: you mean, www.xpert.co.za06:11
nlsthznthat worked06:12
confluencyWhatevar. :D06:12
confluencyUnfortunately the awesome agent is now apparently a sales executive for Auto Atlantic, and for all I know everyone else there sucks.06:12
nlsthznit happens... then again, I thought the agent that got me this job in UAE was awesome... only to get here and realize how much was total crap and lies just to get you to leave your job and re-allocate half way accross the world :/06:14
oomkoosanyone got some advice for installing an onboard network card in clearOS 5.2? The nic is an Atheros AR8132. After searching forums for hours I managed to get it to pick up as __temp251#### etc (after installing an al1c atheros driver) if i do ifconfig -a but it still doesnt work. 06:17
superflyoomkoos: clearOS ?06:19
confluencyoomkoos: try madwifi?06:20
oomkoosits firewall software formerly known as clarkconnect06:20
oomkoosnormally i dont have any issues with it but the new mobo's we bought have only 1 pci slot (lame...) and i need 2 nic's not get it working06:22
confluencyoomkoos: http://madwifi-project.org/ -- I think they have the best support for Atheros cards.  I've found references to people installing madwifi drivers on ClearOS; apparently you need to do some manual configuration.  You probably know a lot more about that part than I do. ;)06:25
oomkoosthanx confluency i'll check it out06:26
