[02:09] ailo_, I'm doing some -lowlatency testing, did you do some? [02:15] hey ronj [02:15] i usually get my presonus firepod going [02:15] start ardour [02:16] and route my 8 inputs from the firepod to 8 tracks in ardour [02:16] let it roll record for an hour or so [02:34] holstein, hola [02:34] yup [02:34] results yet? [02:34] o/ [02:35] yeah, i can do that with no xruns at around 1.7ms latency [02:35] holstein, by the way I'm preparing a mail. why the hell these doubts around lowlatency?! [02:35] with a -realtime kernel [02:35] not near that without though [02:35] everybody seemed to agree it is the path to follow [02:35] with the -lowlatency kernel [02:35] BUT [02:35] and now Alessio comes back on this [02:35] did I miss something? [02:35] i think something about firewire still needs -realtime [02:35] ? [02:36] ronj: not sure [02:36] i think abogani got a little discouraged [02:36] hm [02:36] doing everything on his own [02:36] sure [02:36] i think he's back into it now though [02:36] there a PPA for them [02:36] for natty [02:37] yup I'm testing it right now [02:37] but we're redoing things we did this summer :-/ [02:37] (I mean the discussion, testing is always good) [02:37] :) [02:40] holstein, what are your minLatWithNoXruns for generic/lowlat/realtime? [02:40] to be honest [02:40] with a generic or lowlat [02:40] and my firepod [02:40] generic/lowlat/realtime [02:40] i cant start it without xruns [02:40] BUT i have tested a bit with a USB device [02:40] well, excluding the first few seconds [02:40] an maudio transit [02:41] and internal cards [02:41] oh ok [02:41] and the performance is much more similar all the time [02:41] quite tolerable [02:41] i still use the -realtime though [02:41] but with your fw card, increasing the delay, were you able to get to no xruns on lowlat? [02:41] i can always push a little harder [02:42] ronj: not reliably [02:42] hmmm [02:42] i think i was tring around 11ms [02:42] or so [02:42] interesting [02:42] maybe i did 20ms [02:42] i'll have to try again [02:42] now that i have a laptop that is easy to test all kernels and all interfaces with [02:43] will see with the recent kernel but with my TI chip I had consistent generic:notreliable/lowlat:4ms/realtime:2ms [02:43] weird yours is not consistent [02:43] yup [02:43] ronj: thats great [02:43] what device? [02:44] Startech EC1U2F [02:44] and, is this 10.04? [02:44] 10.10? [02:44] jack2? [02:44] i have falks PPA with jack2 in 10.04 [02:44] well these tests were this summer, on 10.04pre [02:44] jack2 [02:44] falktx ppa yes [02:44] i think lowlatency is the future [02:45] the near future at least [02:45] the future are singing kittens [02:45] lol [02:50] holstein, you'll have stuff to report to Alessio once done with your benchmarks? [02:51] sure [02:52] i'll need to install natty though [02:52] i think thats where he is right? [02:52] yes [02:52] beware, the ubustu iso is picky these times [02:52] just install the minimum audio selection [02:52] yeah, GRUB install changed [02:53] on the live CD [02:53] yup, and dependency issues in the video packages [03:25] holstein, did the key to show GRUB change from SHIFT to something else? [03:25] -lowlat successfully installed but I can't boot it :P [03:25] when I press shift nothing happens [03:26] ronj: not that i know of [03:26] but i always go in and unhide it [03:27] uh I guess it's in grub.cfg? [03:28] /etc/default/grub [03:28] i do [03:28] #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 [03:28] ok [03:28] and sometimes [03:28] GRUB_TIMEOUT=-1 [03:28] when i dont want the time [03:29] timer* [03:29] ronj: and run sudo update-grub afterward [03:29] to apply the changes [03:29] F*CK when installing lowlatency I also updated my packages, and now I'm unable to login [03:29] ultra-meh [03:29] meh [03:29] meh [03:29] meh [03:30] :/ [16:21] I recently upgrade to Ubuntu Studio 10.04 from 9.04 (through 9.10), and when I run qjackctl and try to connect to my presonus firepod soundcard, it fails and the messages window says "jackd: unknown driver 'freebob'" and when I try 'firewire', it says "cannot load driver module firewire". Help? [16:23] balleyne: i need to run [16:23] BUT [16:23] i have that hardware [16:23] try running sudo qjackctl [16:23] se if you have permissions issues [16:24] you want to use the 'firewire' driver [16:24] holstein: ah, ok, thanks! [16:24] google 'ubuntu firewire wiki' [16:24] and you'll see some particulars on fixing permissions [16:24] holstein:great, thank you [16:24] holestin: I remember doing that for older versions of Ubuntu Studio, that could well be it... I'll check it out, thanks! [16:24] BBL... if you need... also #opensourcemusicians :) [16:25] holstein: awesome, thanks :) [16:27] holstein: fixed it already, thank you!
