zorsmanStupid Q here.  Recently switched to Xubuntu from Vista.  Can anyone think of an alternative to sketchup.  Is it just me, or is there no comparable  alternative out there?  If not, can anyone recommend a decent free CAD app.  Thanks in advance.08:24
moetuneszorsman:  this page could help - http://www.tech-faq.com/linux-cad.html08:28

xubuntu_questionso I booted my eeepc 4g with xubuntu usb but I cannot click on install icon14:16
xubuntu_questionusing it right now to chat14:16
xubuntu_questionhello?14:18
charlie-tcaxubuntu_question: Have you tried using the menu item to run the installer? Applications -> System -> Install...14:21
sauerbratenHi! the normal ubuntu netbook edition uses gnome as desktop environment, right? is there something like it but using XFCE? :) I think it would be a bit faster again :)15:17
charlie-tcaXubuntu does not a netbook specific edition, no15:19
sauerbratendo you think it would be faster than the netbook edition with gnome?15:19
sauerbratenI use xubuntu on my desktop, too, but due to the small screen of the EEE PC 701 I use the netbook edition there :P15:20
charlie-tcaDone properly, sure it _could_ be faster.15:20
sauerbratenwhat do you mean with "done properly"?15:21
charlie-tcareplace gnome with xfce, not add to it15:21
charlie-tcaoptimize it for the netbook screen size15:22
sauerbratenwill the netbook interface for small screens still work then? I don't think so :/15:22
sauerbratenah ok15:22
sauerbratenwell, like small panels and such?15:22
charlie-tcano, it won't just work. It would have to built to work, wouldn't it?15:23
Sysiatm on netbook: 28px panel, no window borders15:23
charlie-tcaand running xubuntu?15:24
sauerbratenwell yes, i just thought if the netbook screen interface is independent of the base environment, like you could use it on xfce, kde, lxde and kde15:24
sauerbratenSysi, screen size? :)15:24
Sysi1024×60015:25
charlie-tcasauerbraten: the netbook interface is very much gnome dependent as built by Ubuntu15:25
sauerbrateneee 701 has 800x480 :P15:25
charlie-tcaSysi: running Xubuntu or what?15:25
Sysifedora xfce15:26
Sysii have 701 too, just use everything fullscreen15:26
Sysianything don't fit anycase15:26
sauerbratencharlie-tca, ok, too bad... would be nice if there is something like a quickstart interface for xubuntu, with buttons of programs you use most and so on, simply running as fullscreen window15:27
Sysiput big panel to autohide15:29
Sysiyou can put launchers there etc15:29
charlie-tcaxfce4.8 has better panel configurations coming. It will be easier to do things with the panels in it.15:30
sauerbratenwell I will try out ubuntu netbook edition and if it is slow on 701 I'll get xubuntu :)15:30
Sysii hope it won't be too different (as in worse)15:30
sauerbratencharlie-tca, is there real transperency? :)15:31
Sysiunity don't work well on 800px wide screen and 512 ram15:31
Sysii tried15:31
sauerbratenSysi, I have 2GB ram :)15:31
Sysicool15:31
sauerbratenyeah :P15:31
Sysiomnom->15:31
charlie-tcaI don't see transparency option for panels15:31
sauerbratenaww they shall put it in :/15:32
charlie-tcaI don't like them transparent, myself15:34
sauerbratenwill xubuntu 11.4 have big changes? maybe new design or something?15:34
charlie-tcaI don't know how to set that in any version15:34
charlie-tcano big changes, except Xfce4.815:34
sauerbratencharlie-tca, on my desktop machine it would look good i think :)15:34
* charlie-tca thinks that is *big* though15:34
sauerbratenmaybe it is, which changes does xfce 4.8 include?15:35
sauerbratennvm googled it :P15:35
charlie-tcano more HAL15:36
sauerbratenand many changes to xfce4-panel :)15:37
charlie-tcayes15:37
Sysiless Hal, moar battery ♥15:41
Sysixfce-natty isn't gonna use wayland?15:42
charlie-tcaIs anything going to use wayland already?15:42
Sysinot if they're not gonna develop it *fast*15:44
linuxFreak788will xubuntu boot from an extended fagt partition?18:19
