mcseanHi all -- I have a quick install question. I do not have a DVD burner available to me right now but I do have a USB drive with 10.04LTS Desktop. Can I install that and then do a sudo apt-get install edubuntu-desktop and edubuntu-server to install Edubuntu and the LTSP server pieces?00:30
mcseanAnyone there?00:53
charlie-tcamcsean: It looks right to me. You should be able to do that01:44
mcseanthanks, charlie-tca. the only thing that i'm not sure about is whether the ltsp setup scripts will be activated automatically after installing the edubuntu-server elements01:46
charlie-tcaI don't know that one, myself.01:47
mcseanok, thanks01:49
troyHello!16:27
troyCan anyone recommend a version of edubuntu that will work with an older CPU, not requiring cmov in the processor?16:27
troyI'd like to get the most recent workable ver.16:28
Laserbeakhi there i'm following a tutorial to install ubuntu from the hdd with a .iso file.   I've set up grub( put the vmlinuz and initrd.gz in \boot\newinstall), but i get an error saying that it can't find the files needed to install. The tutorial i'm taking from the ubuntu website, never told me where to put the actual .iso image. where do i put it?16:37
alkisgLaserbeak: link to the tutorial?16:50
Laserbeakalkisg: it's on another comp lemme find it onthis one16:53

Laserbeakwhich leads you to this https://help.ubuntu.com/10.10/installation-guide/i386/ch05s01.html#boot-initrd17:00
Laserbeaki'm doing it for grub17:00
Laserbeaksomeone toldme to put the .iso file in the root of my hdd17:01
Laserbeakso i sudo thunar and put the .iso in root17:01
Laserbeakgrub couldn't find it17:02
Laserbeakdo i need to rename the .iso or something?17:02
alkisgYour purpose is to install edubuntu without burning a CD?17:02
Laserbeakyes17:02
alkisgDo you have 2 PCs on your local network?17:02
Laserbeakyes17:03
alkisgCan you install virtualbox or something in one of them?17:03
Laserbeakinstalled17:03
alkisg(in the one that you don't want to install edubuntu)17:03
alkisgOK, then you can use a simple script I wrote which makes netbooting automatic17:03
alkisgLet me get you the link...17:03

alkisghttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDNetboot#line-7717:03
alkisgBoot the iso in the VM, put "bridged mode" for the ethernet, and just run the script17:03
alkisgNothing more needed :)17:04

* alkisg reads about the iso-based method...17:04
Laserbeakbridged mode?17:04
alkisgYes in the virtualbox settings there are some modes for networking17:05
alkisgNAT, bridged, host only etc17:05
alkisgYou need "bridged", for the VM to have an IP in the local network17:05
Laserbeakah cool17:06
Laserbeaki'll copy it to the box with the vm and try it17:06
Laserbeakthanks17:06
Laserbeaki'll let you know what happens17:06
alkisgnp17:06
alkisgLaserbeak: btw in the link you posted I don't see the .iso used anywhere, it speaks for a netinstall using a local kernel for the initial boot17:08
