[05:32] welcome back everyone [05:35] morning nuvolari [05:49] morning superfly [05:50] hi all [06:25] morning superfly and everyone else [06:26] hey Kilos [06:26] i need some help please. if i minimise anything it disappears/hides is there a way i can fix it [06:26] how you superfly and the family? [06:27] Kilos: sounds like you removed the task manager from your lower panel? [06:27] we have had a few power cuts in the last 2 weeks and it started after one of them [06:28] where do i find this task manager please?\ [06:28] Kilos: I don't use Gnome, so I don't know, but in most DE's, you just right-click the panel where you want it, and then select "add" or "customise" or something like that [06:30] ty superfly i will look for it. i member after one power cut it lucid asked if it must recover lotsa stuff and i thought it meant programs i had open so i said no [06:30] since then i got the prob [06:30] lol [06:30] i learn the hard way [06:33] maybe its got another name in gnome [06:33] i find no task manager [06:33] i saw in a thread somewhere that you need to add the "application menu" ? [06:34] i check quick [06:35] hmm i only got an application launcher. will see what that does [06:38] Kilos: you need to add the Window List [06:42] ty very much superfly its working again [06:42] you didnt say how the family is [06:43] Kilos: we're fine, but I think we're looking forward to a bit of a break at the end of the year [06:43] yeah must be. been a long busy year hey [06:43] yup [06:46] i will pop in and out. xchat alone has used 100kB in 15 mins. have a good day everyone [06:46] quick coffee [06:46] Maaz, coffee on [06:46] * Maaz flips the salt-timer [06:48] im even learning to play mahjongg [06:48] hehe [06:50] Coffee's ready for Kilos! [06:50] Maaz, dankie baie [06:50] Kilos: *blink* [06:50] grrr [06:50] Maaz, thanks alot [06:50] Kilos: np [06:51] cheers all please be good [07:29] morning [07:29] morning [07:30] anyone here clues up with uploading torrents? [07:31] nope, I don't generally torrent [07:32] so annoying... not sure if i am doing something wrong, if it is the client or what :( with SA's internet prices I can believe not many use torrents [07:35] nlsthzn: plenty people do, it's just that I don't partake in piracy, and thus the number of useful torrents for me is almost negligable [07:38] piracy is wrong... but i love doing it anyway :D [07:38] oomkoos: yes, so you're one of the many that makes this worse for people like me who try to do things right [07:39] superfly: trying to upload a linux distro torrent actually :) [07:40] nlsthzn: I never accused you of piracy... just said that it is the reason most people torrent [07:42] superfly: I know, was just saying... I need help for a noble cause :p [07:42] haha [07:43] apparently facebook use torrents to distribute their deployments [07:43] nlsthzn: I honestly don't know... I know people have torrent files, and those need to have "announce" urls, but that's about as far as I know [07:44] ten to one superfly. not a fan of pirating software & games. i do torrent quite a few series. and whenever i CAN afford to buy the original i do so. But series box sets are insanely priced [07:44] superfly: I suspect that the announce is where I am also failing [07:45] oomkoos: indeed, I know, I've bought the whole of one series... over about 6 or 7 months [07:48] yes it takes time and respect to you for doing that. you'll find quite a lot of original material in my house ranging from music to dvd's to xbox games and series. my mentality is not that "why should i pay if i can get it for free" but for the value of entertainment i think i would have died of boredom many many years ago if it wasn't for series and movies you either got from friends or downloaded yourself. not trying to justify wha [07:50] nlsthzn try uploading your torrent to a well known site. let them do the announcing part. you need a site which can track where what is of the torrent [07:55] oomkoos: why are you explaining all this to me? [08:04] oomkoos: a few years ago I got rid of all my pirate stuff... a big black bag full of cd/dvd's and yes, I am uploading to a tracker site [08:04] superfly: like i said... just putting it out there :) also i'm bored stiff at work. so pick one :D [08:06] nlsthzn: what tracker site? how many connected to your torrent? any errors? [08:09] www.linuxtracker.com and I can upload the file, others can get it but I am the initial seeder and my client is seeding but nobody is recieving this initial seed [08:09] nlsthzn: most probably because no one knows about it? [08:10] nlsthzn: what is the name of the torrent? [08:12] :) there is a demand for them... the problem is the link to my client seeding isn't being made... I upload the file, then I download it, normally my client will see I am seeding it already and then add my info and then everyone else sees me as the seeder, but now when I re-download the torrent file my client starts downloading the file anew... and then nobody else sees me as the initial seeder [08:17] sounds like the original file source and download destination are different [08:19] oomkoos: they are... oO my default save for downloading torrents is different from the place I uploaded it from [08:19] oh wow [08:19] if it is going to be so easy... [08:19] let me check [08:25] didn't work, however... all I did was to download the torrent I uploaded... it verified the iso on disc and then this new file I am seeding is showing me as a seeder [08:25] so it works [08:25] thanks for all the assistance [08:25] glad it works === smorar_ is now known as smorar === smorar is now known as smorar_ === smorar is now known as smorar_ === smorar_ is now known as smorar === smorar is now known as smorar_ === Kerberos-Heimdal is now known as Kerbero [13:42] empathy 2.32.1 does not support the /msg command the command is not available when i type /help? how do i register my nickname? [13:46] harmony1001: o DPM [13:46] oops [13:46] sorry [13:46] there may be a configuration for the account in empathy that will do the register [13:47] harmony1001: I don't have it open here but let me run up a virtual box for you [13:49] ok no I'll have to try to remember I think there was a place when you create the irc account to add a password [13:49] then it will do the command when it connects in the beginning [13:51] maiatoday: where do i specify my email address? there is space for a password in account add! [13:53] not sure [13:54] ok wait, I think the password is used when you have already registered [13:54] just to identify yourself [13:55] do you get a conversation with nickserv when you log in [13:55] you may be able to type the bit after the /msg command in the nickserv conversation [13:55] * maiatoday hasn't used empathy for irc for ages [13:56] or otherwise is there a menu way to create a conversatino with nickserv [13:56] maiatoday: what client do you use [13:56] weechat [13:56] but I am at work now so I use pidgin [13:57] unfortunately at work there is no ubuntu [13:58] but if anyone else was here they would suggest their favourite irc client, it is a contensious topic :) [14:07] harmony1001: Have you *tried* /msg? [14:07] harmony1001: yeah, also try opening a chat window to nickserv. [14:08] Otherwise, you can register from a different client, or mibbit. It's a server thing, not a client thing.
