IdleOnewow now I have half Unity half classic desktop04:14
IdleOneheh04:14
yofel_you can also just run 'adduser <your user name> sudo', a bit easier that editing sudoers04:14
rwwFun alpha cycle so far, huh ;)04:14

IdleOnerww: I have been using classic desktop for a few weeks, decided to boot unity and yeah this is fun04:15
rwwIdleOne: I wipe out my ~/ every week or two. It helps a bit with things like that.04:16
IdleOneyou wipe you home?04:17
rwwIdleOne: Yes. I have a separate computer I use for testing Natty ;P04:18
IdleOnesmart you04:19
rigvedwhen i tried to update my natty desktop today, it told me that i should do a partial upgrade. is this correct or something has gone wrong?05:21
rwwrigved: That's normal. I recommend not trying to force a full upgrade.05:22
rwwI note that you should also see /topic if you're about to do an update.05:22
rigvedrww: ok. i'll check it05:23
rwwor, hrm. is partial upgrade the one that removes existing packages? I stopped using update manager a couple of releases ago, am starting to forget these things :(05:26
IdleOneDON'T do partial upgrades05:39
IdleOnealso sudo is broken right now so don't update.05:39
rwwI guess the answer to my question is "yes"05:40
rwwhuzzah for terms that sound like the opposite of what they are.05:40
nit-witI deleted the whole thing way to buggy05:40
IdleOnebesides being all brokened, natty is pretty nice05:42
IdleOneI know brokened isn't a word05:42
rwwNarwhals ate my children. Unstable :(05:42
IdleOneyou had children?05:43
rwwWait, what year is it?05:43
IdleOneI'm afraid to answer in case I get it wrong05:43
IdleOne2010 iirc05:43
rwwThen no. No children. Forget I said anything. Look at this shiny red light stick~!05:44
IdleOneohhhhh aahhhhh05:44
rigvedIdleOne: ok i haven't. yes i noticed that it was about to remove packages that i had no clue about.05:44
IdleOneshiny and blinky05:44
rigvedi think i'll update using zsync and then install again.05:45
Invisikonsudo is fixed and in repos.. in case anyone was wondering05:50
rwwThe fixed version is 1.7.4p4-5ubuntu2, if you want to check whether your mirror has it.05:51

nperry_Welcome to unity new release day...09:11
coz_hey guys.. i disabled firefox 4  in place of swiftfox on the system... under preferred applications I cannot get swiftfox to be default browser for some reason... any suggestions?11:44
rigvedi have tried to run 11.04 under qemu but it does not even boot up; just shows the ubuntu 10.10 booting logo. it is only running under virtualbox (in classic mode only; cannot start unity), but i cannot test x64 under virtualbox as i don't have VT. i can only do this under qemu. anyone have any suggestion on getting 11.04 to work under qemu?13:27
Amaranthrigved: Boot with nosplash and remove 'quiet' from the boot line14:03
AmaranthI think those still apply to a modern boot14:04
Invisikonwhen ure in the recovery console and need to add yourself to root, whats the command u use? 'adduser youruser sudo' right? from login screen when i choose recovery console i still get permission denied errors..14:30
PiciInvisikon: Are you being plauged by bug #690873?14:35
ubottuLaunchpad bug 690873 in sudo (Ubuntu) "latest natty sudo upgrade prompts for conffile update and potentially removes %admin from /etc/sudoers" [Critical,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/69087314:35
Invisikonyeah14:35
PiciInvisikon: Well if you have that then adding yourself to the admin group (which is what is usually used for root access) isn't going to help.  I suggest modifying your sudoers file to make sure that it contains the normal   %admin ALL=(ALL) ALL  entry.14:36
Invisikonin recovery console i cant mod anything without root, cant gain root till sudo is fixed.. any suggestions?14:37

jamaltahi all.. so i'm one of the people that broke their sudos with yesterday's update and i had a question20:15
jamaltahow can i edit /etc/sudoers without sudo-ing? :\20:15

IdleOnejamalta: boot to recovery mode and select root shell then nano /etc/sudoers and add %admin ALL=(ALL) ALL20:20

jamaltaIdleOne: yep, did that.. thanks!20:22
jamalta:)20:22
IdleOnesure thing20:22
Ian_CorneIdleOne: or just visudo :)20:27
Ian_Corneinstead of nano'ing the file20:27
Ian_CorneIs the warning about python still true?20:28
IdleOneIan_Corne: yeah, I know. I just prefer nano20:29
Ian_Cornedoesn't it actually just use nano?20:29
rwwIdleOne: Considering that visudo should use your default editor, and that it does validation to make sure you didn't make silly mistakes, you should be using visudo ;P21:10

xharxnatty installed a bootloader that doesn't boot in 9 of 10 cases. grub install from maverick fixed this21:32
Andre_GondimI have installed natty alpha 1 and never upgrade yet, is it save do this?21:33
nperry_Andre_Gondim: may i ask what your doing on alpha 1 if you don't want a broken system?21:34
nperry_the point of it is to stay up to date to ensure everything works oks21:34
Andre_GondimI made some upgrades, and about 3 days ago I had a crach, then I installed again from alpha 1 and don't upgrade again21:34
nperry_Did you report it?21:35

Some_PersonDoes natty include unity yet?22:25
charlie-tcayes22:26
AmaranthSome_Person: Oh yeah, it's fun!22:31
Amaranth(run for your life)22:31
Some_PersonAmaranth: Really bad?22:31
AmaranthSome_Person: Nah, just no where near done22:31
AmaranthSome_Person: What is there works well but what is there isn't much22:31
rwwWorks better than 10.10's does, imho :\22:32
jamaltaAmaranth: why do you say that? it works well...22:32
rwwbut yeah, definitely not finished.22:32
jamaltaI mean, there's a lot of features being worked on22:32
jamaltaThey'll be done with time :)22:32
Amaranthrww: That was true from day 1, due to using compiz :)22:32
rwwyup :)22:32
Amaranthjamalta: On one hand more features are great, on the other more features means more work for me...22:32
jamaltaAmaranth: why is that?22:33
Amaranthjamalta: Because I'm porting the whole thing to OpenGL ES 222:34
jamaltai see22:34
* Some_Person just watched a video demoing unity in natty alpha 122:34
AmaranthSome_Person: You get the dock, a button that opens `nautilus /usr/share/applications`, and the indicators22:35
Some_PersonThe bar thing on the side reminds me a lot of the Windows 7 taskbar22:35
AmaranthSome_Person: and you can't rearrange anything on said dock right now (although DBO says that works in trunk)22:35
jamaltaAmaranth: why's that?22:36
Amaranthjamalta: Because unity isn't done yet22:36
Some_PersonI'm not so sure I like how the applications will be on the side, but the thing I want to see most is how applications will be opened22:37
Some_Personmaverick's implementation with the fullscreen application chooser seems slow and a bit counter-productive to me, so I'm hoping they can come up with something better than that22:38
jamaltaAmaranth: I mean, why are you porting it to OpenGL ES 2?22:39
Some_PersonStill, after watching this video, I feel a bit less worried about unity22:39
Amaranthjamalta: Because I want to get paid ;)22:40
Amaranthjamalta: Doing it for Linaro22:40
jamaltaAmaranth: Haha, I understand if it is a part of your job.. I was just curious as to the reasoning.22:40
Amaranthjamalta: Well, mobile devices use OpenGL ES...22:41
jamaltaYeah22:41
jamaltaI just wanted to know what the goal was.. meaning, if there was a push to get Unity working on mobile devices22:41
jamaltaMakes sense for Linaro :)22:41
