=== JanC_ is now known as JanC [06:14] Grumble grumble stupid x11-proto updates grumble grumble. [08:19] grumble grumble compiz still no workie on sandybridge grumble === ara_ is now known as ara [08:51] RAOF: did you see that the glx patch got a v3? [09:31] RAOF: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28181#c31 with the v2 patch :( [09:31] Freedesktop bug 28181 in Server/general "Combination of foss ati driver 6.13.0 and xorg-server 1.8.1 gives seg faults." [Normal,New] [14:52] Sarvatt, sandybridge has not been released yet === Sarvatt_ is now known as Sarvatt === njpatel_ is now known as njpatel [16:31] So, intel 4500MHD can drive 4098x1152 through display port -> dvi and VGA, and unity is fast on it [16:32] however, getting the displayport up and running is a lesson in patience. Most of the time X just hangs and you need to pull out the lead for it come out of that [16:33] also, can't leave it plugged in and restart, everything stops while trying to start GDM until you pull out the displayport lead [16:33] even on a running system, it actually working is incredibly hit and miss, I was wondering if there was any knowledge of that? [16:36] njpatel: the displayport->dvi adapter is the problem there I believe, I just saw some fixes for it recently let me see if they are in already [16:41] i915 0000:00:02.0: DP-1: Ignoring invalid EDID block 40. [16:41] [ 152.029383] [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 1 [16:42] getting tons of those in dmesg [16:42] njpatel: ya disappeared right when i responded :) [16:42] njpatel: the displayport->dvi adapter is the problem there I believe, I just saw some fixes for it recently let me see if they are in already [16:42] sorry :) [16:43] Sarvatt, ah, interesting [16:43] njpatel: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/ickle/drm-intel.git;a=commit;h=8316f33766a82907c694267ff911e45e256f09f9 is the fix and its queued up for .38 merge window [16:43] http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/2010-12-17-natty/ [16:43] its in that kernel [16:43] oh, sweet [16:43] if ya want to verify it fixes it [16:43] * njpatel tries [16:44] Sarvatt, thanks, will install and try it out [16:44] it's kinda awesome this laptop can even drive these two displays in the first place [16:44] i was pleasantly surprised :) [16:51] Sarvatt, it works!! [16:51] thank you :) [16:52] * njpatel_ has stupidly wide desktop again [16:52] it even detects all the properties off the displayport properly === njpatel_ is now known as njpatel [16:52] no worries, I'll ping you when its in the proper distro kernel so you dont have to keep using that crack :) [16:53] heh, thanks :) [16:53] if you need any testing done on silly intel setups, let me know [16:54] though, as I'm developing Unity, there is already stupid testing happening ;) [16:55] I'm surprised it works too honestly :) your laptop panel turns off so you can use the vga and displayport? [17:01] I haven't tried switching on the laptop panel too [17:02] let me try..... [17:02] * njpatel expects things will die now [17:02] yeah, not happening :) [17:02] naaah not worth the hassle, was just surprised it did the right thing for a change [17:03] it thinks it's on but nothing showing up [17:03] and can't move the pointer there [17:03] i'm just surprised it's *so* fast [17:03] scale/expo etc work really smoothly [17:03] yeah good riddance clutter!!! [17:03] heh :) [17:04] oh, just got a notification letting me know that the "selected configuration for displays could not be applied" [17:04] I hate that this makes me like the intel driver [22:57] bdmurray: duping all "failed to install/upgrade" bugs from nvidia-current and fglrx-installer's bugs to 557023 when casper is present in ProcCmdLine: in the description would knock out a HUGE chunk of bugs if you have a way to automate that easily [22:58] Sarvatt: yes, I could do that [23:00] heck, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer?field.searchtext=failed+to+casper grabs them too :) [23:01] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers?field.searchtext=failed+to+casper whee [23:03] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers?field.searchtext=failed+script+returned+error+exit+casper is better [23:04] I've just been searching for apport-package as a parameter and the examining the bugs [23:05] casper is only there when apport collects the info off the livecd so those are all for sure dupes, that's a nice chunk of bugs to knock out [23:05] I'm fairly certain LiveMediaBuild indicates that it is a live cd too [23:06] ah yeah thats even better [23:06] maybe someone decides to talk about casper the friendly ghost in the bug summary [23:06] well, now my code is a bit better than that [23:08] intel_reg_write 0xa090 0x88040000 [23:08] vs [23:08] intel_reg_write 0xa090 0x88000000 [23:08] is a 4W difference [23:08] \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ [23:08] holy crap, huge power savings for intel incoming [23:10] well for 965gm+ at least [23:11] The byte 2 defines the number of watts to use to heat the room? [23:13] enables a power saving feature that wasn't getting enabled, and boo it's just sandybridge, already enabled on the others [23:23] heh some of these bugs have pages and pages of duplicates already too [23:24] so glad I dont have to fix that manually anymore [23:29] Sarvatt, wow [23:29] ok nvidia-graphics-drivers and nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 done, need to do 96 and 173 [23:30] Sarvatt, makes me wonder what that register does... [23:30] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.searchtext=failed+script+returned+error+exit+LiveMediaBuild would all be the same bug across all packages if it would work [23:30] bryceh: enables rc6 [23:30] what's rc6? [23:30] google intel rc6 render standby [23:31] dang https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.searchtext=failed+script+returned+error+exit+LiveMediaBuild is just too much for poor little launchpad [23:32] oh it worked! 1 → 75 of 233 results [23:32] 233 more dupes.. [23:35] bryceh: it lowers the voltage on the gpu down to almost nothing when idle
