diplowimps13:03
diplo:)13:03
exobuzzdiplo, yeh. mostly on the xbox version and a few minor patches on mainline xbmc13:06
diplorecommend it over boxee ?13:08
diploAbout to reinstall myrevo and just wanta clean install and not lots of apps13:08
diplotried it 6+ months ago13:08
diploOnly one thing i don't like over Team Media portal for both xbmc and boxee is that i cant lock down spefiic folders, so i had a kids area before so just animated films and series ( postman pat etc ) we're13:09
exobuzzive not actually tried boxee, so i couldnt say13:09
diplowith both the others last time i've tried they are all under videos13:09
exobuzzthe new addons stuff in xbmc is nice13:09
exobuzzit has decent rtmp streaming meaning you dont need flash to view iplayer for example.13:10
diplobeen reading up on it earlier, does look good13:10
diploWell i think i'll give it another try later.13:10
exobuzzboxee uses a built in browser with flash or something i believe.13:10
exobuzzif you try em both, id be interesting in your thoughts / preference13:11
exobuzzi only actually run xbmc on linux for testing stuff, as my "htpc" is the old xbox1 still..13:12
diplokk, not sure how i installed mine13:12
diploheh, i recently gave my xbox1 away, tbh alot of my video is mkv encoded so it just couldn;t handle it13:12

kvarleyI have an Acer Aspire 6930G that is running 10.10 64bit and everything was working fine but now suddenly the wireless has stopped working. "Enable Wireless" in the nm-applet is greyed out and when I try using the wireless through terminal is mentions rf kill. RF kill reports that the wireless lan is hard blocked. How can I remove or bypass the lock?16:12

daubersTake you between 2 and 3 hours iirc19:18
AlanBellin fact you must have a cabin, which is £4419:18
nperrydaubers: paddington to swansea19:18

daubersnperry: No, it's direct19:19
daubersnperry: You go through bristol temple meads rather than through bristol itself19:19
czajkowskiok so I'd just need to get to Paddington19:19
daubersnperry: 3 and a bit hours19:19
bigcalmNice station that19:19

Phineasjust as I need help as well20:33
daftykins:)20:34
daftykinsask away dear chap!20:34
Phineashow do I receve pms in thus clinant20:35
* daftykins leans over and puts another coin in Phineas20:35
DJonesPerhaps if you give it longer than 1 minute between joining the channel and assuming people are asleep might be a good idea20:35
daftykinswhich client is that?20:35
PhineasfIRC20:35
Phineasfor android20:36
jacobwITIL.. now i've heard of that20:36
DJonesPhineas: Perhaps there's an Android channel, or maybe the xda forums would be able to help20:37
PhineasI know /msg works for sending pms but how do I receve them20:37
Phineasthat is the question20:38
PhineasI don't know of any android channels20:39
DJonesHave you asked in #freenode, thats the network admin channel20:40
Phineasexcept an android chat channel20:40
LSEactuaryim trying to boot my computer with a windows CD but it just keeps restarting in ubutnu rather then starting with the CD20:40
Phineaswhy didn't Perry think of that20:40
DJonesLSEactuary: Sounds like you're bios is set to boot from your first hard drive rather than cd first, you probably need to go into your bios settings at boot up & change the boot order20:41
LSEactuaryits a CD first. btw should that CD have an ISO file only? i think this CD has 2 folders! :(20:42
Phineaswhat does url stand for?20:42
jacobwuniform resource locator20:43
Phineasthats something I've just lernt20:44
LSEactuaryim deleting stuff off my USB but there never seems to be enough space. this is stupid. how do i fix this?20:46
LSEactuaryits a 500MB folder but theres at least 1GB free on the USB20:46
niallLSEactuary, double check that the folder is in fact 500MB. Run a filesystem check on the USB device.20:47
LSEactuaryhow? i right clicked and press propertires - the folder is 585 MB.20:47
PhineasI worked it out20:48
LSEactuarybtw to run a programme from a CD do you need to burn the ISO or is the folder with the ISO in it enough?20:48
MartijnVdSLSEactuary: what's the problem you're trying to solve?20:48
DJonesLSEactuary: It depends on the isco & the instructions, if its an UBuntu CD you burn the iso which creates the filesystem20:48
niallLSEactuary,  Ah okay, well goto System > Administration > Disk Utility and select the USB device and partition you're interested in, then click the button about filesystem checking.20:49
Phineas what utility20:49
LSEactuaryi dont get what im looking for20:50
niallPhineas, K3b, brasero, cdrecord..20:50
LSEactuaryand how do i burn an ISO with gnomebaker - will the computer run it once burnt20:50
niallLSEactuary, are you by any chance trying to make a bootable USB by copying a folder onto it?20:51
LSEactuarynope20:51
LSEactuary2 different things20:51
LSEactuaryi want to copy my files onto my USB but its not allowing me20:51
LSEactuaryand there is enough space.20:51
niallJust checking. I like to concentrate on one thing at a time when I don't know what I'm doing ;)20:51
LSEactuarybut not accoring to ubuntu20:51
LSEactuarylol20:52
niallWhat filesystem is on the USB?20:52
Phineasis my laptops disk drive ment to be loud20:52
jacobwno20:52
niallIs it a single FAT32 partition? Two NTFS? Three ext3?20:52
niallPhineas, it definitely shouldn't be clicking, that's for sure.20:52
Phineasits just humming loudly20:53
Phineaswhen a disk is inserted,20:54
Phineasis this normal?20:54
LSEactuaryi have no idea - can we do the disc burning stuff first?20:56
Phineasor do I need to do something20:56
LSEactuaryi have an ISO file in a folder - if i burn the ISO and restart the computer with it in will the computer boot with the CD?20:56
LSEactuarywhat happens if i burn the whole folder (the ISO in the folder)20:57
niallYou don't burn a data disk with the ISO file on it.20:57
LSEactuarya DVD-R20:57
niallThe ISO file is expanded to BE the filesystem on the disc.. it works quite differently.20:57
* Phineas holds the line until someone becomes avalibule20:57
LSEactuaryso what do i do?20:57
LSEactuaryhow do i get it on the disc20:57
niallLSEactuary, Are you using Ubuntu 10.x?20:58
LSEactuaryyes20:58
LSEactuarygnomebaker right?20:58
LSEactuarydata DVD?20:58
niall'Burn Image' option in whatever you're using.. I'm on 10.10 and it comes with Brasero by default.20:58
LSEactuarycan i use brasero?20:59
niallYes.20:59
LSEactuaryi have that too - please guide me throguh...20:59
niallBottom left button 'Burn existing CD/DVD image to disk'... then go find your image.20:59
Phineasanyone avalibule yet?20:59
LSEactuaryas in my ISO file?20:59
LSEactuaryand the computer will boot from that CD once its burnt?21:00
DJonesLSEactuary: As I said earlier, it depends on the ISO and its creator, if its an Ubuntu iso, it will be bootable & you just brun the image to disk, if its not, you need to check with the iso's creator/website to see what they say about it21:00
niallDead simple. It should autodetect the blank disk and select an appropriate write speed. Tip for you: selecting a slower speed will give a better burn.21:00
LSEactuaryokay ive just put the disc in.... im waiting for something to come up21:00
LSEactuaryhow do i know if its a ubuntu iso?21:01
niallDid you open Brasero and select the Burn image... button?21:01
Phineaswould be you inserted a blank disk21:01
niallWhat are you trying to burn anyway?21:01
LSEactuaryim still waiting for something to load...21:01
LSEactuarya DVD programme21:02
LSEactuaryi started brasero but its just turning off!21:02
niallSo you downloaded some software via bittorrent and you want to burn it to a CD?21:02
LSEactuaryyep21:02
niallWell of course it won't boot.21:02
LSEactuaryoh21:03
LSEactuaryi was told if i burn it via gnomebaker it will21:03
niallIt's software for playing DVDs or somesuch from INSIDE OF an operating system?21:03
niallIt would help if you could SPECIFY what the software is.21:03
LSEactuaryi ont get what you mean. its a DVd programme that will customise menus and burn DVDS so i can record my home movies21:03
niallRight.21:04
niallSoftware.. an application21:04
LSEactuarycan we have a private chat please/21:04
niallTo be run inside of... whatever operating system it's compatible with (Linux, Windows, Mac OS..)21:04
Phineaswhat is the name of the differed?21:04
Phineassoftwere21:04
LSEactuaryniall please PM me21:05
niallLSEactuary, what is the name of this 'DVD programme'?21:05
LSEactuaryplease PM me and ill tell you21:05
Phineasthats what I said21:05
niallheh, software piracy is best kept in private..21:05

LSEactuaryif you decide you dont want to help then thats fine21:06
DJonesLSEactuary: Assuming its an Ubuntu program, just install it from the software repository21:07
LSEactuaryjust hear me out21:07
LSEactuaryits not a ubuntu programme - i downloaded it off bitorrent.21:07
Phineaspiracy defrently21:07
DJonesLSEactuary: If its a windows package, ask in ##windows21:07
LSEactuary##windos21:07
niallLSEactuary, You need more help than I can give. I suggest that if you want to learn about ISO images and how to burn them or indeed mount them without burning them, you use Google and Wikipedia to get a grounding in the matter. All the info you need is out there, in baby-step form. Go and make use of that.21:07
DJonesif its a pirate copy, please don't ask in this channel21:08
LSEactuaryoh one sec - ive got bassero open. just tell me what option i should pick21:08
LSEactuaryburn image?21:08
niallTroll, folks?21:08
LSEactuaryjust help me pick an option and ill log off21:08
Phineasyep troll21:08
LSEactuarywhat the heck. im asking for help21:08
niallLSEactuary, last time... Brasero > bottom left button, burn existing image to disk > click on the file, select burner drive and speed, burn!21:09
Phineasget rid of the troll21:09
LSEactuaryokay thanks!21:09
Phineasnow go away21:09
LSEactuarydone21:09
LSEactuarysorry - how long does the ISO take to burn? its saying 'creating image checksum' and its been there for a while21:16
LSEactuarythe organge bar is moving back and forth but i dont think anythings happening21:17
AlanBellLSEactuary: it can take a long time, a CD is quite big, DVD even bigger21:18
LSEactuaryokay roughly?21:19
AlanBellplease do not ask people to engage in private messages about this21:19
AlanBelldunno how long it would take, I don't know how much data you are trying to burn21:20
DJonesLSEactuary: We don't know what the iso is, how big it is or what the software is, so we can't answer the question21:20
AlanBellgive it an hour21:20
AlanBellif you are unwilling to reveal what the content is then we are likely to suspect you are asking for help relating to piracy, which we don't give21:20
DJonesOr ask the software producer how long it will take to burn the downloaded bit torrent iso to dvd?21:21
LSEactuaryits a DVD programme - sonic dvd media21:21
DJonesI'm sure they'll be willing to help21:21
LSEactuaryits about 3.5 gb21:21
LSEactuaryokay ill give it time.21:22
LSEactuarymy ISO file has been burning for a while now  about 1/2 hr. its still saying creating image checksum and the organge bar is moving right and left. is there a way of checking this is working an not just wasting electricity?21:49
DaraelLSEactuary: Install and run htop and see if a suitable-looking process is using CPU time?21:50
DaraelLSEactuary: Or just use top.  I just prefer htop.21:50
LSEactuaryhow do install that?21:50
LSEactuaryand how long will it take to burn a 3.5 GB ISO on a DVD R21:51
LSEactuaryoh ive installed it but what am i looking for?21:53
LSEactuarya bunch of random numbers and works have come up21:53
LSEactuary.....21:54
LSEactuarydarael....21:55
DaraelLSEactuary: Sorry, got sidelined in #ubuntu.21:55
LSEactuaryno worries21:55
LSEactuaryso what do i look for - ive got it open21:55
DaraelLSEactuary: You want to check the commands that are using lots of CPU time and see if any of them look appropriate - the CD burner in Ubuntu is "brasero"21:56
LSEactuary/usr/bin/X ;o -nr -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-gaZZi is taking up 721:57
LSEactuaryxtop is taking up 321:57
LSEactuaryhtop =  221:57
LSEactuarybasero - 121:57
LSEactuaryeveything else is 0.2, 0.1 or 021:57
LSEactuaryactually everything else is 021:58
DaraelLSEactuary: Right.  In the s column, what letter does Brasero have?21:58
LSEactuaryS21:58
DaraelRight, sounds like it's not doing anything, then.21:59
LSEactuarythe only R is htop21:59
LSEactuaryokay can i fix it?21:59
DaraelThat I can't help you with, sorry.21:59
LSEactuaryokay do you know how i can burn an ISO onto a DVD-R then?21:59

LSEactuaryokay ill try22:02
DaraelLSEactuary: gnomebaker, nautilus-cd-burner or k3b will all do the job, as will burn.  Reading the wiki page is advised, however.22:03
Darael...oh.22:03
