tseliotSarvatt: are you there?15:27
Sarvatttseliot: yep, whats up?15:28
tseliotSarvatt: what's the status of EMGD? I've seen that there's a PPA: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives15:29
tseliotSarvatt: do you know if it works decently well?15:29
SarvattI have absolutely no idea unfortunately15:30
Sarvattwe have no release with xserver 1.8 outside of lucid + xorg-edgers15:31
tseliotright, it requires a new X15:32
Sarvattrequires xserver 1.8 afaik, doubt it works with 1.9..15:32
tseliot:/15:33
Sarvattyep doesn't work with 1.915:34
Sarvatt(thanks meego)15:34
tseliotSarvatt: the usual Poulsbo nightmare ;)15:36
Sarvattthey're the only ones that shipped anything with 1.815:36
tseliotthanks for your help15:36
Sarvattif its for personal use it would work fine with xorg-edgers+lucid at least :)15:36
tjaaltonyo, what's the status of natty on intel atm? I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop17:34
Sarvattbetter off than maverick, thats for sure17:39
Sarvattits gnome/compiz that you'll hit the fun with :)17:39
tjaaltonhmm, maverick has been working fine :)17:41
Sarvattapplets fail to load all the time in the classic gnome session, compiz resets my settings every update, fun stuff17:43
tjaaltonhehe17:45
Sarvattgtk-window-decorator segfaults really often and takes out borders too, have to disable/reenable the decoration plugin in ccsm all the time17:45
Sarvattactually it segfaults every boot 100% of the time and i have to disable/reenable it17:46
tjaaltonmmkay17:49
tjaaltonthat reminds me; is it just me or was the default border width changed to 1px in 10.10?17:49
tjaaltonit's infuriating..17:50
Sarvattlucid's the same :(17:50
SarvattI think they're doing grips in the corners in natty17:50
tjaaltonlucid seems fine here17:50
tjaaltonoh17:51
Sarvatthttps://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-dx-n-resizing-windows17:51
tjaaltonright the borders are, but the resize corner is 1x1 in 10.1017:51
tjaaltonapproximately anyway17:51
Sarvattjcristau: looks like you're getting your wish :)  <doko> cdbs: it is unlikely that debian will make --as-needed the default17:57
jcristauyay17:58
tjaaltonSarvatt: what's the downside of it?18:03
Sarvatttjaalton: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2010-November/031991.html18:07
tjaaltonSarvatt: ah that one.. hehe18:10
brycehtjaalton, yeah I finally got fed up with it and edited the theme xml file to increase the border width18:38
brycehI figured if I summed up all the many seconds wasted trying to get my mouse over the border, I could actually do something with all that time18:39
tjaaltonbryceh: heh :)18:39
tjaaltonin lucid it's 4pix wide18:39
brycehI set it to 10!18:40
tjaaltonso enough for me, but dunno what it used to be18:40
tjaaltonif the blueprint said it was changed for lucid18:40
tjaalton10 seems plenty :)18:40
brycehactually, even setting it to just 2 or 3 makes the corners a lot easier to hit18:40
tjaaltonyeah18:40
brycehon my desktop I got phat space18:41
brycehfile is (for metacity) /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml18:43
tjaaltonthanks, I'll check it out18:44
brycehregarding natty stability... I have it on two machines I actively use.  The unity interface is pretty clunky at present.  Switching to classic works, although I've still had misc. irritants like Sarvatt mentioned, and my laptop no longer suspends.  X seems to be reasonably stable though.18:47
bryceh(which we'll fix once we upload the new xserver *grin*)18:47
Sarvattbryceh: suspend or hibernate?18:47
brycehsuspend18:47
Sarvatthibernate should be fixed in 2.6.37-rc718:47
brycehlike, close lid, pops up a dialog saying it couldn't suspend.18:48
brycehthere isn't even a suspend option listed in any of the menus anymore18:48
brycehmy 1.5 yr old son every day, first thing he does is close the lids on all the laptops.  So this is a bit of a problem ;-)18:48
Sarvattthere's someone out there that likes a laptop suspending when the lid is closed?18:52
SarvattI always figured only mac fans liked that :)18:53
* Sarvatt closes/opens his laptops all day long and doesn't like disconnecting18:53
brycehwell, this particular laptop gets really hot when the lid is closed18:58
brycehthe disconnecting bit is annoying.  But I try to only use it as a dumb terminal onto other machines so it's not a big deal.19:00
bmw_Having a bit of trouble on Kubuntu 10.10 with Radeon HD 3200.  All your drivers are installed and FGLRX is not installed.  Desktop Effects in System Settings is completely grayed out. Please advise. Thank you in advance.20:03
Sarvattbryceh: ok I'm not crazy, fglrx/nvidia install worked on the karmic livecd - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/52490220:03
ubot4Sarvatt: Error: Bug #524902 is private.20:03
brycehSarvatt, hmmm20:08
Sarvatti think i can narrow down when it broke by looking at closed glxinfo bugs20:09
brycehclever20:11
Sarvattbryceh: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/59470120:13
ubot4Sarvatt: Error: Bug #594701 is private.20:13
Sarvattworking...20:13
Sarvattthat looks like a final lucid livecd20:13
SarvattLiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429)20:14
Sarvattah wait20:14
Sarvattit worked because his card wasn't supported so it didnt build a module20:15
Sarvatthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bugs?field.searchtext=XF86DRIQueryExtension%28%29&orderby=-importance&search=Search&field.status%3Alist=INVALID&field.status%3Alist=WONTFIX20:15
Sarvatthere we go, thats a good range20:15
Sarvattnothin, forgot LiveMediaBuild in that search20:19
Sarvatthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.searchtext=LiveMediaBuild+XF86DRIQueryExtension%28%29&orderby=-importance&search=Search&field.status%3Alist=INVALID&field.status%3Alist=WONTFIX&field.assignee=&field.bug_reporter=&field.omit_dupes=on&field.has_patch=&field.has_no_package=20:20
Sarvattthats right, most were against gnome-screensaver :)20:20
Sarvatthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa-demos/+bug/661756 somehow they magically got fglrx installed in maverick20:24
ubot4Sarvatt: Error: Bug #661756 is private.20:24
Sarvattah gpu must not be supported yet again20:24
Sarvattrough guess is it broke around beta 1 for lucid, LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Alpha i386 (20100404) is the earliest lucid report i've found so far20:31
SarvattLiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Beta i386 (20100406.1) is the second oldest20:31
Sarvattwould help if there weren't hundreds of package updates on april 1st :)20:34
bmw_Having a bit of trouble on Kubuntu 10.10 with Radeon HD 3200.  All your drivers are installed and FGLRX is not installed.  Desktop Effects in System Settings is completely grayed out. Please advise. Thank you in advance.20:37
brycehbmw_, -> try http://askubuntu.com20:40
bmw_Thanx. Have a great day.20:40
bmw_bryceh -> not very helpful site. I came here b/c your wiki said I could get some help. Can I?20:43
brycehbmw_, where did it say that?20:45
Sarvattguess I'll boot a livecd and try playing with mkinitramfs, wonder if any of these are busting the vmlinuz symlink because the timeframe is right - http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/initramfs-tools/natty/revision/168 http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/initramfs-tools/natty/revision/167 http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/initramfs-tools/natty/revision/175#mkinitramfs20:47
* bryceh -> lunch20:48
bjsniderSarvatt, when you tried booting the karmic livecd, did it work?21:16
Sarvatthaven't booted a karmic livecd in ages, would help if it was even possible to create a lucid liveusb in maverick+ :)21:17
* RAOF gasps as the full majesty of X's resource system slowly unfolds before his eyes.22:00
JanCRAOF: gasping because it's beautiful or because you're drowning?  ;)22:08
RAOFWell, I've just realised where the mechanism which stops everything leaking to hell is.22:09
