speedy493hello all, I recently installed Lubuntu on my Asus 1215N as it was faster than Linux Mint, however when I used the built in feature to install the nvidia driver, it now gets stuck on "checking battery state" on boot.01:20

craigbass1976I'm setting up a new lubuntu box for my kids.  Am I going to be able to upgrade this like I do regular ubuntu?03:16
szczuryes, there's no difference in this aspect03:17
craigbass1976Any lubuntu installs I've done before were lxde installs on top of regular gnome ubuntu03:17
craigbass1976szczur, ok.  Thanks.03:17
craigbass1976szczur, did I read somewhere about lubuntu not being quite the same as the equivalent version of ubuntu, xubuntu, etc?03:21
szczurcraigbass1976, were not the official ubuntu derivative as k/x/ubuntu is. but we're aiming to become one at 11.04 if i remember correctly03:22
craigbass1976szczur, when's the next LTS, 12.04?03:24
szczurprobably :)03:25
szczur8.04 > 10.04 so next would be the 12.0403:25
craigbass1976Is this room getting busier?  Any usage  stats out there?03:26
szczurdon't know about stats, but you can read the logs at http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/03:28
Yorvyk\o/ no more flickering panel10:12
AbhiJithello?10:14
YorvykAbhiJit, Hi10:15
AbhiJitYorvyk, i cant find lbntu lts lucid torrent link?10:15
AbhiJithelpp10:17
YorvykAbhiJit, Just A sec10:18
AbhiJitok10:18
YorvykAbhiJit, http://people.ubuntu.com/~gilir/10:20
AbhiJitYorvyk, thank you!10:21
YorvykAbhiJit, OK, bookmark that link the torrents should always be there.10:22
AbhiJityeah10:23
phillwAbhiJit: Yorvyk if you follow the link on the room topic, it also takes you there :)10:26
AbhiJitphillw, 10.0410:27
AbhiJiti dont want 10.1010:27
phillwAbhiJit: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp#10.0410:28
AbhiJityeak10:28
AbhiJitok10:28
Yorvykphillw, pehaps the link could be altered to take you to http://people.ubuntu.com/~gilir/ rather than straight to the download10:30
phillwAbhiJit: http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=94 has how to check the iso and cd, as the self test did not work on the 10.04 release.10:31
AbhiJiti see10:31
AbhiJithmm10:31
wyclifhello10:33
phillwI will get the 10.04 instructions re-added to the help area.10:33
AbhiJitok10:33
phillwYorvyk: as the 10.04 can not self test, and it was creating support issues I thought it better to just leave the 10.10 one. I'll get the instructions for 10.04 testing put back onto the wiki area.10:35
phillwhi wyclif10:35
wyclifWell, just installed lubuntu 10.10 on a ThinkPad, really pleased with the result: a nice hackable laptop10:35
phillwwyclif: thanks for dropping by. It is nice to have a compliment on here for a change :D10:36
wyclifMuch faster without GNOME10:36
wyclifphillw: No, you guys are doing the right thing, lightweight is a good trend to be on10:37
wyclifI don't miss Nautilus at all, either =)10:37
Verdinosaurehi there,  I installed Lubuntu on an old computer13:02
Verdinosaurewhen I install and launch ubuntu-software-center, my processor is becoming crazy, just like my RAM memory13:02
Verdinosaureby doing "ps -aux", I can see that python is the reason why my computer almost crashes13:03
VerdinosaureI know ubuntu-software-center is heavy and should not be installed on lubuntu, but synaptic is not that "user-friendly"13:04
phillwVerdinosaure: that is why we do not use it.13:05
Verdinosaurephillw: so this is a known bug ?13:05
phillwVerdinosaure: there is a version  of lubuntu-software-center in development. The reason for the ubuntu one having problems is most likely having issues is GNOME depedencies, but as I'm not a dev I could well be totally wron.13:07
phillw*wrong*13:07
Verdinosaurephillw: ok, thanks for explaining. I hope we'll see that on lubuntu 11.04 ^^13:08
phillwmore likely to be 11.10. The extremely small team of devs have their time being eaten up also by the commitment to support the 10.04 beta as if it were an LTS.13:10
Verdinosaurephillw: no problem, I know how to use synaptic and apt-get command lines ^^ I wish good luck for the team to make lubuntu an official derivative of ubuntu13:15
phillwVerdinosaure: thanks, do pop onto #lubuntu-offtopic if you ever just a general chat - we do not bite :D13:17
phillw*just want*13:18
kristian-aalborghi all15:47
kristian-aalborghi phillw bioterror head_victim etc etc :)15:47
kristian-aalborgstupid question: does lxde support the full ubuntu repos?15:47
stlsaintoh i dont get a hello?15:48
Yorvyk_kristian-aalborg, Yes15:48
kristian-aalborga good evening to stlsaint also15:49
stlsaintkristian-aalborg: oh yea to answer your question yes15:49
stlsaintkristian-aalborg: you can manage repos the same way you would within ubuntu15:50
kristian-aalborggood15:50
kristian-aalborgI was almost sure of that, but I wanted to be sure15:50
kristian-aalborgI don't mean to be rude, but what's the difference between lubuntu and barebones ubuntu + lxde?15:58
Yorvyk_Lubuntu is Ubuntu+LXDE+themes+a collection of applications basically16:00
kristian-aalborgok16:02
kristian-aalborgif I choose the former method, can I get support here?16:03
Yorvyk_We’ll try and help :)16:04
Yorvyk_We can make guarantees as it may not be something many of us have done16:05
kristian-aalborgsure sure16:07
kristian-aalborgI'm not expecting to have a lot of questions, but distros/apps have different support politics16:08
Yorvyk_That’s the problem, even though what you want to do is Based on Ubuntu and so is LUbuntu things are just different enough to cause problems when try to overcome any problems.16:09
bioterrorahh hi16:17
Yorvyk_ih hha16:18
