Psi-Jackhmm03:57
EvilPhoenixPsi-Jack:  didnt expect to see you here.  sup03:58
Psi-JackI'm almost always here. heh03:58
Psi-JackI'm just having some serious issues with iet.03:58
Psi-JackPissing me off to no end. LOL03:58
Psi-JackBeginning to seriously think tgt is a better way to go.04:00
Psi-JackI'm having craploads of issues trying to use iet for an iSCSI Target. I have two opensuse servers running as NAS, DRBD'ing raid10 arrays between them and running clvm on them, exporting logical volumes as iSCSI blockio targets, using a VIP for the actual portal address.. Now, when open-iscsi does a discovery on it, whatever nas server has the VIP, the iscsi initiator gets both the NAS's private04:06
Psi-JackIP and the VIP, so it logs into both. This is causing serious issues for me.04:06
SamuelPetersonHi all, I installed ubuntu server 10.04 LTS and when it rebooted, nothing was being sent to the monitor. I restarted the PC and the video card send out images to show the bios posting, I saw some text from ubuntu booting up, then my monitor turned off... Anyone know what this is caused by?05:27
EvilPhoenixquestion.  is there an easy way to do an automatic copy of a folder to another location repeatedly every 6 hours?06:23
rigvedEvilPhoenix: i think you can use rsync for that06:23
EvilPhoenixrigved:  in what, a cron job or smth?06:24
rigvedEvilPhoenix: i am pretty sure that rsync has a method to do backup at regular intervals. i think it uses cron.06:25
rigvedEvilPhoenix: man rsync. there are examples at the end of the manual.06:26
EvilPhoenixlemme confirm something: rsync --recursive /path/dirA /path/dirB  will copy dirA to dirB and overwrite everything in dirB with the data in dirA?06:50
EvilPhoenixwelcome back06:57

cn1209hello. Is there a way to copy all perl modules from one Ubuntu Server installation to another?07:00
cn1209Or at least create some kind of package to have and install from the source server to the destination server?07:00
nutrapiCould anyone help me understand why when installing and using the linux-image-server kernel, that uname still reports 'generic-pae' ? I understand this is normal, but why?07:42
nutrapiFrom what I remember, it used to report '-server' or '-virtual' appropriately, but then again, it's been a while.07:43
nutrapiFound my answer - 'generic-pae' is for all 32bit installs now08:04

veovis_muaddibI customized my PS1 by copying one I liked and tweaking it, and now when I use ssh, typing too many characters makes the line wrap to itself, so commands overwrite the prompt and become hard to read.  I assume I made a syntax error or something, because I copied and pasted.12:23
veovis_muaddibPS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[00;37m\]{\e[01;34m\t\e[00;37m} | \e[00;31mEndor\e[01;32m\[\033[00m\] | \[\033[01;34m\]\W\[\033[00m\] \e[01;37m\$ '12:23
veovis_muaddibIt looks exactly as I'd like it to, but something must be screwed up...12:24
qman__veovis_muaddib, there is something wrong with it, I just tried it12:56
veovis_muaddibqman__: Yeah.  I just can't read it well enough to figure out what the problem is12:57
RoyKhi all. just got this cheap met station that connects to a pc with usb - any idea how to intercept usb traffic to try to reverse engineer that one to try to grab the data from a linux box?13:00
qman__veovis_muaddib, it's not 100%, but it's mostly fixed13:10
qman__PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\e[00;37m\]{\[\e[01;34m\]\t\[\e[00;37m}\] | \[\e[00;31m\]Endor\[\e[00m\] | \[\e[01;34m\]\W\[\e[00m\] \[\e[01;37m\]\$ '13:10
qman__the problem is that you didn't encase all the escaped sequences in \[ \] blocks13:11
veovis_muaddibqman__: Ah, okay.  Thanks!13:11
qman__that one still backspaces too far by one character13:11
qman__couldn't find the culprit13:11
veovis_muaddibI'll keep looking then13:11
veovis_muaddibAt least I know what I'm looking for now13:11
qman__ah, found it13:17
qman__PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\e[00;37m\]{\[\e[01;34m\]\t\[\e[00;37m\]} | \[\e[00;31m\]Endor\[\e[00m\] | \[\e[01;34m\]\W\[\e[00m\] \[\e[01;37m\]\$ '13:17
qman__veovis_muaddib, ^13:18
veovis_muaddibAh, next to the time?  Yeah, the {} hid it well13:19
veovis_muaddibThank you very much!13:19
PeterNLdiff PS1a PS1b anyone?13:19
veovis_muaddibYeah, that fixed all the problems!13:21
veovis_muaddibPeterNL: I don't have a copy of the original working one, I figured since it looked right, it was okay13:22
PeterNL:)13:22
veovis_muaddibYeah, confirmed with OpenSSH and PuTTY, this fixed it qman__13:23
random_ubuntuerhi, anyone active here atm? Would like some help with an installation issue...13:58
PeterNLI'm here13:58
random_ubuntuergreat13:58
random_ubuntuerI'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 server on an old IBM13:58
random_ubuntuerI can't use CD or USB so I used my laptop as a pxe server13:59
PeterNLOoh, getting complex. I don't think I can help13:59
random_ubuntuerand dhcp and tftp all work correcty, I get the first installation menu on the server box13:59
random_ubuntuerand the problem is that from then on it is frozen13:59
random_ubuntuerthe problem might not be related to the fact that I'm booting from net, just mentioned it just in case14:00
random_ubuntuerI think it might have something to do with graphics or the installation files14:00
random_ubuntuerI can't select the options from the menu, the keyboard doesn't do anything14:00
random_ubuntuercan't use ctrl+alt+del nor ctrl+alt+backspace or anything14:01
random_ubuntuerand the menu screen is wrapping from the bottom14:01
PeterNLctrl-alt-f[1-6]?14:01
random_ubuntuernothing14:01
random_ubuntuerthe computer basically crashes14:01
PeterNLCan this be an hardware problem someway?14:02
random_ubuntuerCan be, but I don't think it is14:02
random_ubuntuerthere's a working slackware install on the box, although I haven't used it for some time14:02
PeterNLWel, I really don't know...14:02
PeterNLTry booting slackware, and see how well it works14:03
random_ubuntuerAs far as I remember, I wrecked the slack enough, so it doesn't boot fully14:03
PeterNL...hmmm, well nothing I can do from here :)14:03
random_ubuntuerWell, I'm here for troubleshooting...14:04
random_ubuntuerI'll try to get the slack to boot, but I'd still like some more recommendations14:04
random_ubuntuerhmm, the slack actually stops booting at "checking 'hlt' instruction..." so it might be hardware14:06
random_ubuntuerI'll check it some more14:06
qman__you could try the "nomodeset" boot option14:10
qman__the new KMS is problematic for some graphics chips14:10
random_ubuntuerI did get the slack to boot now with "no-hlt" boot command14:11
random_ubuntuerI'll check the hardware to make sure, it's still okay14:11
random_ubuntuercan i insert boot arguments in ubuntu install before the menu jumps up?14:12
random_ubuntuerwow, the ext2 on the disks is crap, even after fsck14:15
random_ubuntuerabout time, to reinstall : P14:15
random_ubuntuerI think that the installation would work if I could pass "no-hlt" to the boot process14:21
random_ubuntuerOkay, I'll play around a bit14:22
random_ubuntuerdisconnect...14:22
random_ubuntuerback14:24
random_ubuntuerYeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to insert boot arguments before the menu jumps up14:24
random_ubuntuerand by then, the computer has crashed14:24
random_ubuntuerI searched around the boot files but I didn't see a boot loader there either14:24
random_ubuntuerdoes the installation use grub?14:25
uvirtbotNew bug: #694286 in dovecot (main) "package dovecot-common 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 (dup-of: 657392)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/69428614:26
leniosrandom_ubuntuer, you got the grub menu on boot?14:51
random_ubuntuerno, immediatly after it connects the dhcp and tftp, it goes to the menu and crashes14:53
leniosi don't know what menu you're talking about14:54
leniosoh, you mean install boot14:54
random_ubuntueryeah14:56
qman__random_ubuntuer, the menu is just a fancified isolinux15:38
qman__you give boot options in the menu itself15:38
qman__if it's not making it that far, your hardware is probably failing15:38
random_ubuntuersyslinux, you mean?15:38
random_ubuntuerthat's the thing, it boots slackware which is installed currently15:38
random_ubuntuerI had to use the "no-hlt" boot argument however for it to work15:39
random_ubuntuerI thought I had to add the argument to the installation boot process15:39
random_ubuntuerbut then realised that it doesn't boot an image until after syslinux menu15:39
Smauglenios, so I reinstalled clean versions of the files as you said, and rkhunter threw the same warnings.  does this mean I should not be worried?16:54
iceflatlineHappy ($local_holiday) everyone!17:29
archerneed help with squid on its dual mode, normal + rproxy. someone please?18:01
Smaugiceflatline: haha ty you too!18:09
leniosSmaug, the files are different that the ones you had the last time you checked with rkhunter18:38
leniosi guess you should take those files as clean, and now run future checks with those ones18:43
leniosagainst*18:44
Smauglenios: ok ty18:55
leniosSmaug, just remember to check before and after each upgrade18:56
leniosrkhunter is not bulletproof anyway18:57

archer the fact is i am trying this solution, but find no such script withing ubuntu http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/use-etc-init-d-squid-to-start-both-instances-789835/21:58
archerwhere is the /etc/init.d/xxxxx files in maverick now?21:58
leniosin /etc/init.d/21:59
archer/etc/init.d/squid ---- no such fine in maverick22:00
leniosarcher, dpkg -L squid22:00
archernice. i have to read a while22:01
archerbut could you tell me the launcher's file name.. just squid?22:01
leniospaste the result of dpkg -L squid22:02

archeri will be ...ticked22:02
RoAkSoAxlenios: /etc/init/squid? Squid should be using upstart instead of the legacy init scripts in Maverick22:03
RoAkSoAxarcher: ^^22:03
archerhaha22:04
archeri am with a server in a vm22:04
archerthat is to say i cannot copy and paste22:04
archeri thought it is /etc/init/squid.conf22:05
RoAkSoAxarcher: indeed, always forget anbout the .conf xD22:06
archerit appears like kinda readable script22:06
leniosarcher, good22:06
archerthank you both22:06
archerbtw.. is that possible to make squid 2.7 to work as both r-proxy and normal proxy ?22:08
archerit seems too different from 2.2 .. and as long as cache_peer is there, they don't forward normal proxy request22:09
leniosi'm not a squid expert22:11
RoyKarcher: it is, but why?22:16
RoyKarcher: for a reverse proxy, I'd recommend varnish22:16
archersince what ... don;t know habit?22:18
archerRoyK: would you help me to find a conf example for varnish, in roles of both rproxy and normal one?22:20
archeri don't need cache actually22:21
archeri just make use of such to enhance security infrastructure22:22
archerit is a httpd router for me only. but i think i am just used to squid, which is actually ... no longer the one i like22:23
archeri cannot find varnish examples or ez start manual at the moment ... although it is even tougher for me to read squid launch script22:24
RoyKarcher: squid is good for caching - varnish for reverse cache22:29
RoyKarcher: you can combine the two, though  http://blog.tedd.no/index.php/2010/07/30/setting-up-debian-with-varnish-as-internet-proxy/22:30
archerbut i need no such a function. for security concern cache need managing ..... another nightmare22:30
archerRoyK:  i cannot understand the necessary in the link22:34
RoyKbrb22:34
archerthere is no wiki, guide config examples....22:40
