[03:58] Pissing me off to no end. LOL [04:00] Beginning to seriously think tgt is a better way to go. [04:06] I'm having craploads of issues trying to use iet for an iSCSI Target. I have two opensuse servers running as NAS, DRBD'ing raid10 arrays between them and running clvm on them, exporting logical volumes as iSCSI blockio targets, using a VIP for the actual portal address.. Now, when open-iscsi does a discovery on it, whatever nas server has the VIP, the iscsi initiator gets both the NAS's private [04:06] IP and the VIP, so it logs into both. This is causing serious issues for me. [05:27] Hi all, I installed ubuntu server 10.04 LTS and when it rebooted, nothing was being sent to the monitor. I restarted the PC and the video card send out images to show the bios posting, I saw some text from ubuntu booting up, then my monitor turned off... Anyone know what this is caused by? [06:23] question. is there an easy way to do an automatic copy of a folder to another location repeatedly every 6 hours? [06:23] EvilPhoenix: i think you can use rsync for that [06:24] rigved: in what, a cron job or smth? [06:25] EvilPhoenix: i am pretty sure that rsync has a method to do backup at regular intervals. i think it uses cron. [06:26] EvilPhoenix: man rsync. there are examples at the end of the manual. [06:50] lemme confirm something: rsync --recursive /path/dirA /path/dirB will copy dirA to dirB and overwrite everything in dirB with the data in dirA? [06:57] welcome back [06:58] wrong button? [07:00] hello. Is there a way to copy all perl modules from one Ubuntu Server installation to another? [07:00] Or at least create some kind of package to have and install from the source server to the destination server? [07:42] Could anyone help me understand why when installing and using the linux-image-server kernel, that uname still reports 'generic-pae' ? I understand this is normal, but why? [07:43] From what I remember, it used to report '-server' or '-virtual' appropriately, but then again, it's been a while. [08:04] Found my answer - 'generic-pae' is for all 32bit installs now [08:04] http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1431485.html [10:15] hi Smaug [12:23] I customized my PS1 by copying one I liked and tweaking it, and now when I use ssh, typing too many characters makes the line wrap to itself, so commands overwrite the prompt and become hard to read. I assume I made a syntax error or something, because I copied and pasted. [12:23] PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[00;37m\]{\e[01;34m\t\e[00;37m} | \e[00;31mEndor\e[01;32m\[\033[00m\] | \[\033[01;34m\]\W\[\033[00m\] \e[01;37m\$ ' [12:24] It looks exactly as I'd like it to, but something must be screwed up... [12:56] veovis_muaddib, there is something wrong with it, I just tried it [12:57] qman__: Yeah. I just can't read it well enough to figure out what the problem is [13:00] hi all. just got this cheap met station that connects to a pc with usb - any idea how to intercept usb traffic to try to reverse engineer that one to try to grab the data from a linux box? [13:10] veovis_muaddib, it's not 100%, but it's mostly fixed [13:10] PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\e[00;37m\]{\[\e[01;34m\]\t\[\e[00;37m}\] | \[\e[00;31m\]Endor\[\e[00m\] | \[\e[01;34m\]\W\[\e[00m\] \[\e[01;37m\]\$ ' [13:11] the problem is that you didn't encase all the escaped sequences in \[ \] blocks [13:11] qman__: Ah, okay. Thanks! [13:11] that one still backspaces too far by one character [13:11] couldn't find the culprit [13:11] I'll keep looking then [13:11] At least I know what I'm looking for now [13:17] ah, found it [13:17] PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\e[00;37m\]{\[\e[01;34m\]\t\[\e[00;37m\]} | \[\e[00;31m\]Endor\[\e[00m\] | \[\e[01;34m\]\W\[\e[00m\] \[\e[01;37m\]\$ ' [13:18] veovis_muaddib, ^ [13:19] Ah, next to the time? Yeah, the {} hid it well [13:19] Thank you very much! [13:19] diff PS1a PS1b anyone? [13:21] Yeah, that fixed all the problems! [13:22] PeterNL: I don't have a copy of the original working one, I figured since it looked right, it was okay [13:22] :) [13:23] Yeah, confirmed with OpenSSH and PuTTY, this fixed it qman__ [13:58] hi, anyone active here atm? Would like some help with an installation issue... [13:58] I'm here [13:58] great [13:58] I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 server on an old IBM [13:59] I can't use CD or USB so I used my laptop as a pxe server [13:59] Ooh, getting complex. I don't think I can help [13:59] and dhcp and tftp all work correcty, I get the first installation menu on the server box [13:59] and the problem is that from then on it is frozen [14:00] the problem might not be related to the fact that I'm booting from net, just mentioned it just in case [14:00] I think it might have something to do with graphics or the installation files [14:00] I can't select the options from the menu, the keyboard doesn't do anything [14:01] can't use ctrl+alt+del nor ctrl+alt+backspace or anything [14:01] and the menu screen is wrapping from the bottom [14:01] ctrl-alt-f[1-6]? [14:01] nothing [14:01] the computer basically crashes [14:02] Can this be an hardware problem someway? [14:02] Can be, but I don't think it is [14:02] there's a working slackware install on the box, although I haven't used it for some time [14:02] Wel, I really don't know... [14:03] Try booting slackware, and see how well it works [14:03] As far as I remember, I wrecked the slack enough, so it doesn't boot fully [14:03] ...hmmm, well nothing I can do from here :) [14:04] Well, I'm here for troubleshooting... [14:04] I'll try to get the slack to boot, but I'd still like some more recommendations [14:06] hmm, the slack actually stops booting at "checking 'hlt' instruction..." so it might be hardware [14:06] I'll check it some more [14:10] you could try the "nomodeset" boot option [14:10] the new KMS is problematic for some graphics chips [14:11] I did get the slack to boot now with "no-hlt" boot command [14:11] I'll check the hardware to make sure, it's still okay [14:12] can i insert boot arguments in ubuntu install before the menu jumps up? [14:15] wow, the ext2 on the disks is crap, even after fsck [14:15] about time, to reinstall : P [14:21] I think that the installation would work if I could pass "no-hlt" to the boot process [14:22] Okay, I'll play around a bit [14:22] disconnect... [14:24] back [14:24] Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to insert boot arguments before the menu jumps up [14:24] and by then, the computer has crashed [14:24] I searched around the boot files but I didn't see a boot loader there either [14:25] does the installation use grub? [14:26] New bug: #694286 in dovecot (main) "package dovecot-common 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 (dup-of: 657392)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/694286 [14:51] random_ubuntuer, you got the grub menu on boot? [14:53] no, immediatly after it connects the dhcp and tftp, it goes to the menu and crashes [14:54] i don't know what menu you're talking about [14:54] oh, you mean install boot [14:56] yeah [15:38] random_ubuntuer, the menu is just a fancified isolinux [15:38] you give boot options in the menu itself [15:38] if it's not making it that far, your hardware is probably failing [15:38] syslinux, you mean? [15:38] that's the thing, it boots slackware which is installed currently [15:39] I had to use the "no-hlt" boot argument however for it to work [15:39] I thought I had to add the argument to the installation boot process [15:39] but then realised that it doesn't boot an image until after syslinux menu [16:54] lenios, so I reinstalled clean versions of the files as you said, and rkhunter threw the same warnings. does this mean I should not be worried? [17:29] Happy ($local_holiday) everyone! [18:01] need help with squid on its dual mode, normal + rproxy. someone please? [18:09] iceflatline: haha ty you too! [18:38] Smaug, the files are different that the ones you had the last time you checked with rkhunter [18:43] i guess you should take those files as clean, and now run future checks with those ones [18:44] against* [18:55] lenios: ok ty [18:56] Smaug, just remember to check before and after each upgrade [18:57] rkhunter is not bulletproof anyway === Amgine is now known as Amgine_lurking [20:06] New bug: #694342 in autofs5 (main) "FTBFS in Natty" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/694342 [20:22] guys can anybody help me solve a problem with postfix server (can send but cant recieve emails..)? [20:23] gccster: did you see the links in !postfix ? [20:24] !postfix [20:24] postfix is the default !MTA and !MDA on Ubuntu. [20:26] guntbert ive got a virtual domains setup [20:27] its all working except not recieving from outside world [20:28] gccster: I myself didn't try that setup, so please read up (for the time being...) [20:30] i think ill try to setup all from the begining [20:32] well i just solved it [20:32] damn [20:34] guntbert thx for your time anyway [20:35] gccster: you're welcome :-) have fun [21:17] hi what package do I need to install to get the hint in which package a missing command is? [22:02] i will be ...ticked [22:03] lenios: /etc/init/squid? Squid should be using upstart instead of the legacy init scripts in Maverick [22:03] archer: ^^ [22:04] haha [22:04] i am with a server in a vm [22:04] that is to say i cannot copy and paste [22:05] i thought it is /etc/init/squid.conf [22:06] archer: indeed, always forget anbout the .conf xD [22:06] it appears like kinda readable script [22:06] archer, good [22:06] thank you both [22:08] btw.. is that possible to make squid 2.7 to work as both r-proxy and normal proxy ? [22:09] it seems too different from 2.2 .. and as long as cache_peer is there, they don't forward normal proxy request [22:11] i'm not a squid expert [22:16] archer: it is, but why? [22:16] archer: for a reverse proxy, I'd recommend varnish [22:18] since what ... don;t know habit? [22:20] RoyK: would you help me to find a conf example for varnish, in roles of both rproxy and normal one? [22:21] i don't need cache actually [22:22] i just make use of such to enhance security infrastructure [22:23] it is a httpd router for me only. but i think i am just used to squid, which is actually ... no longer the one i like [22:24] i cannot find varnish examples or ez start manual at the moment ... although it is even tougher for me to read squid launch script [22:29] archer: squid is good for caching - varnish for reverse cache [22:30] archer: you can combine the two, though http://blog.tedd.no/index.php/2010/07/30/setting-up-debian-with-varnish-as-internet-proxy/ [22:30] but i need no such a function. for security concern cache need managing ..... another nightmare [22:34] RoyK: i cannot understand the necessary in the link [22:34] brb [22:40] there is no wiki, guide config examples.... === PsIRCologie is now known as Morocco
