billybigriggeri launch it from gnome-terminal and it crashes...and abgx360 is crashing because it's trying to launch an xterm session too05:42
nirazioI use Ubuntu 10.10 and I've been shifting back and forth between the desktop and the netbook remix versions. Now I can't find the unity interface on UNR. It still shows as "installed" on the software center. Logging back and logging in on any other mode, gives me the same interface. Any ideas?06:39
bazhangnirazio, this channel is for 11.0406:43
niraziobazhang: Oh sorry06:43
speedvinHello!09:50

* penguin42 hasn't tried installs14:46
UndiFineDcharlie-tca, which ones ?15:03
charlie-tcanatty ubuntu and xubuntu alternate i386 and amd64 daily images15:05
charlie-tcaThey start the partitioning, then loop back to the start with the language menu15:05
UndiFineDhave not tried daily, I am running a natty ubuntu i386 in vm15:05
charlie-tcaI can't even get to entering the user name15:06
charlie-tcaand I get it on both VirtualBox and Hardware15:06
UndiFineDsorry, i had no issue with the pre-alpha115:08
UndiFineDand that is still running15:08
Martiininatty fails to upgrade from maverick currently ??15:33
BUGabundono idea15:34
vishcharlie-tca: works.. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1325768/Screenshot-Natty%20%5BRunning%5D.png  :)15:34
BUGabundobeen on natty since day one15:34
BUGabundolol15:34
IdleOnesame here15:34
MartiiniI will try forcing dpkg ..15:34
IdleOneactually 1 day before day 115:34
BUGabundoIdleOne:  LOL15:34
BUGabundohow can that be?15:34
Martiinirpm is actually better than deb ..15:35
IdleOneBUGabundo: I changed maverick to natty in sources the day before the email was sent out announcing the toolchain dropped15:35
crimsunMartiini: trolling isn't appreciated, BTW :)15:35
vishcharlie-tca: i just had to install the guest additions and activate the 3D accel..!!15:35
vishcrimsun: lol!15:35
MartiiniI just upgraded opensuse to factory with no problems .. had to force install 2-3 rpms ..15:36
Martiiniaptitude just doesnt want to upgrade .. when its broken15:36
vishBUGabundo: remember the other day you had a problem with compiz not starting? and error was something about the WM already registered?15:36
BUGabundono15:37
BUGabundobut I have the worse memory15:37
crimsunMartiini: again, that is no function of rpm or deb. That's a reflection of the developmental state of each distro.15:37
vish;p15:37
BUGabundoI still can't start 3D15:37
IdleOnewhy should it upgrade if it knows it is broken15:37
crimsunMartiini: so, please, stop trolling. :)15:37
vishBUGabundo: i came across he same problem.. it turns out compiz looks for non-existent gconf keys..15:37
vishs/he/the15:37
BUGabundoweeeeeeeeee15:38
penguin42I had problems upgrading yesterday, update-manager complained that it would have to remove ubuntu-desktop but that it wasn't allowed to - I think in the end I came to the conclusion it was a fight with xubuntu-desktop that I also have15:38
vishBUGabundo: still no 3D ? what does running compiz from the terminal say?15:38
IdleOnecrimsun: I once forced my car to go down a hill, the breaks still didn't work when i reached the bottom15:39
BUGabundovish: I'm running compiz, I think15:39
vishcool.. :)15:39
BUGabundoand im not coragoeus enough to try to run that again15:39
BUGabundolast time took me an afternoon to fix15:39
BUGabundoI need to upload my photos now15:39
BUGabundowill try later, once I flash my phone, and make sure its running lol15:40
coz_BUGabundo,  are you running unity desktop?15:40
BUGabundono15:40
BUGabundoclassic15:40
coz_oh15:40
coz_BUGabundo,  oh ok15:40
vishBUGabundo: well, if compiz is running unity should work.. (mostly) i remember you error and you just need to fix the gconf and you get unity working..15:40
coz_BUGabundo,  let me try compiz from terminal see if it restarts15:40
vishyour*15:40
BUGabundo$ psx compi15:41
BUGabundo1000     18971  0.0  0.0  11352   884 pts/1    S+   15:41   0:00 grep --color=auto compi15:41
BUGabundoI guess not15:41
BUGabundolol15:41
coz_BUGabundo,  is the unity plugin enabled?15:43
charlie-tcavish, is that a new install from today using the alternate image?15:43
vishcharlie-tca: yea, new install from 24's image..15:43
BUGabundocoz_: I think so15:43
BUGabundolet me start cssm manually and check15:43
vishcharlie-tca: not alternate..15:43
charlie-tcadesktop cd is working, alternate cd will not install15:44
BUGabundobahhhh15:44
coz_BUGabundo,   if you are in classic gnome its likely unity plugin is disabled15:44
BUGabundoccsm lost all my settings15:44
BUGabundoAGAIN15:44
BUGabundo:(15:44
coz_oooo15:44
Martiinianyone know how to force dpkg install packages .. dpkg -i --force-all .. doesnt seem to work15:44
coz_anyone in the process of packaging the plugins-extra...?15:44
Martiinicrimsun, U chinese ? Chen15:45
coz_Martiini,  not sure  try    dpkg --force-help15:46
penguin42Martiini: Why does it need the force?15:46
crimsunMartiini: I'm "crimsun" :)15:46
Martiinipenguin42, natty upgrade went bad .. as alpha upgrades do ..15:47
Martiiniabout 40 packages fail to install15:47
penguin42Martiini: If the --force-all is failing the problem is something else that the installation of the package is trying to use probably15:47
coz_Martiini,   just get the alpha cd and clean install it ..yes?15:48
Martiinino15:48
coz_:)15:48
Martiinidowngrading back to maverick then .. its only laptop15:48
coz_darn fingers15:49
coz_Martiini,  its working as well as its going to work with a clean install ... out of curiosity...why not a clean install?15:49
* penguin42 really could do with debugging the pause he gets during boot on this ---> machine, it was 30 sec on Maverick, it's nearer 85 on Natty, lucid was almost instant15:49
Martiinihonestly .. opensuse is the most pain-free distro out there .. rpm upgrade/downgrade .. no problems ... I just upgraded my opensuse to latest 2.6.37 factory15:50
coz_penguin42,   mmm :)  according to this    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbkzXiLTk7o15:50
coz_Martiini,  maybe opensuse is more a kin  to your personality than ubuntu...yes?15:51
Martiinicoz_,  linux is still linux .. rpm just upgrades/downgrades more easily15:52
penguin42coz_: Hehe - I dunno, I suspect some evil combination of upstart, lvm and udev are conspiring against it - but neither of them are easy to debug during boot; especially since in natty it seems to give a very blank screen during boot15:52
penguin42Martiini: Many of us prefer ubuntu/debian because we can't stand rpm - it's all preference (and off topic)15:52
coz_penguin42,  yes I have noticed that blank screen  sometimes several times here at boot15:52
coz_penguin42,   nvidia?15:52
penguin42coz_: Nope, radeon hd4350, open driver15:53
coz_mm15:53
Martiiniu people work for Canonical ?15:53
coz_Martiini,  I am sure some do15:53
penguin42coz_: I think they're trying again with grub graphical hand off that15:53
* penguin42 doesn't15:53
Martiinihumans need biological computers .. this silicon binary processor stuff is getting old ..15:55
Martiinimore than 50 years old technology now15:55
penguin42yeh well, you can fight bugs on those - yuck....15:55
MartiiniDNA programming15:55
MartiiniMasters degree in DNA programming and bio-IT15:56
penguin42Martiini: Can you take it somewhere relevant?15:56
Martiinihomo sapiens .. human monkey15:57
coz_penguin42,  well at least I know it is not just my system with the blank screen.15:57
penguin42let me know if you find a bug#15:58
coz_penguin42,  me?15:59
penguin42yeh15:59
coz_penguin42,  sure  no problem.... right now the biggest thing that bothers me is the refuseal of ubuntuone to login from the gui16:00
coz_rather from   ubuntuone-preferences dialog16:00
penguin42ah I don't use that16:01
coz_penguin42,  I rarely use it myself but wanted to test it on natty... apparenlty  the bug has been reported already  I believe16:01
coz_be back a bit later,,, need to go to store17:04
