[01:23] no master [01:23] :) [01:23] that's still awefully cool :D congrats! [01:23] i hope no one call me doctor... [01:23] thanks [03:47] Hello There! [03:49] I just would l to say that I'm another Ubuntu Studio user that loves music and can't live with this OS anymore ... I'm a developer and I heard that they are needing people for the development team so i would like to know how I can help on this ? [03:49] ScottL:? [03:50] raonyguimaraes: hey :) [03:51] raonyguimaraes: /j #ubuntustudio-devel [03:51] thank you ! [14:44] what application would be good for making video introductions on ubuntu ? [15:13] hey lwizardl [15:13] what are you looking to make? [15:13] screencast? [15:14] video I will upload to youtube [15:14] I want put fade in text, then logo, then fade out [15:15] lwizardl: let me get you a couple options [15:16] http://www.pitivi.org/ [15:16] http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/ [15:17] lwizardl: actually [15:17] http://techcityinc.com/2009/02/04/top-10-free-video-editors-for-ubuntu-linux/ [15:17] that looks like a nice review article [15:18] ah ha [15:18] there also an online editor [15:18] http://jaycut.com/ [15:18] i made an account and looked in there [15:18] Jahshaka the screen shown is kinda like what i want to do [15:18] but i dont do video [15:18] lwizardl: there are some video folk though [15:18] mostly on the mailing list [15:18] well I just want to add a disclaimer to a video I'm going to be uploading to youtube [15:19] there used to be some editor at youtube [15:19] simple one [15:20] i think kino, pitivi and jahshaka are the usual ones [15:20] * holstein breakfast... BBL [17:25] So, I tried ubuntu studio alternate disc, to install onto my lvm [17:26] however, every boot I die and get dropped to a busybox prompt for the initramfs [17:26] eviljames: o/ [17:26] hello holstein [17:27] Know anything about helping a grizzly ol' slacker put a shiny new ubuntu on his lvm? [17:27] :P [17:28] i would say give this a read http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-install-ubuntu-over-lvm-filesystem [17:29] woo! [17:29] googling ubuntu lvm , ubuntu md lvm, ubuntu dm lvm , ubuntu lvm initramfs .. etc etc [17:29] all go0t me to the same places... nowhere! :D [17:35] holstein: Do you work on u-studio ? [17:36] nothing too improtant [17:36] important* [17:36] but yeah [17:36] i try [17:39] hrm [17:40] That link, not quite what I'm looking for. [17:40] I fudged and fiddled around with u studio and it actually did install on my lvm [17:40] but it's the initramfs that doesn't seem to work for me :/ [17:42] eviljames: Dual boot? [17:42] ailo: It'll end up being several-boot :P [17:43] no reason to dual boot ubuntu, and ubntustudio [17:43] of the same release [17:43] heh, no.. [17:43] OK [17:43] So, which system has the grub installed? [17:43] I have slackawre32-current on a LV, slackware64-current will go on a different LV [17:43] ubuntu studio on a 3rd, maybe arch or gentoo on a 4th.. etc. etc.. [17:44] oh, and I'm using lilo thus far... [17:44] So, I would guess you need to adjust the boot parameters for Ubuntustudio [17:45] Don't know how, or what to add, but that would be my first guess, anyway [17:46] Which is done in Lilo's boot configure file. Don't know anything about Lilo, though. [17:56] sec - [17:59] eviljames: could be you need to add a line, initrd=. [18:00] Past that, heh [18:00] ok [18:00] I use a separate, ext2 /boot [18:01] So, you've looked up how to set up lilo to boot Ubuntu? [18:01] for me, it's like this: sda1 = ext2 (2GB), sda2 = swap(2GB), sda3 = linux_raid_autodetect (70GB), sdb1 = 2GB partition, unformatted, sdb2 = 2GB partition, unformatted, sdb3 = linux_raid_autodetect (70GB) [18:02] Well, it works, but it doesn't. [18:02] I have the kernel, and initrd set (I think) correctly in lilo [18:11] My bet is on configuring lilo, anyway. I don't think the partitioning of the disk should matter at such an early stage of booting. As long as Lilo can read the initrd image. [18:12] Sure, but the initrd image is what fails. [18:13] lilo points to the correct kernel, initrd. Booting happens [18:14] Eventually, I get dropped to the initramfs prompt, then I can modprobe dm_mod ; vgscan (to find the LVs); vgchange -ay (makes them accessible) and mount /dev/chimeravg/ustudioroot /root [18:15] ok. Sorry, I misread earlier. [18:15] no worries [18:15] At least you haven't sent me to man pages like I was some kinda noob! :D [18:16] Though... if there was a good man page for mkinitramfs - one that got into the nitty gritty of how dm-raid was supposed to work [18:16] or, rather, md raid [18:16] whatever the moving target is today... [18:19] Well, can't say I have too much experience from dual booting. I did dual boot Ubuntu and LFS at one point [18:21] And to do that, just needed to set the right parameters in the grub's configuration [18:23] heh, this is a little more complicated than that ;) [18:24] Well, maybe. [18:25] it's the lvm root that makes this such a pain in the ass [18:25] and I think it's not even that, but the raid0 that lies underneath the lvm [18:26] So, it's a raid issue? But slackware is not affected? [18:26] As I mention above, I have to modprobe to get the raid array to assemble, then vgscan/vgchange work as expected [18:26] Slackware works fine - I'm using it atm.
