penguin42I was told there was a new X build going onto edgers over the next few days; has it landed yet or is it still worth waiting?00:49

hyperairhi. is there some Cool New Featureā„¢ in xorg-edgers these days that suddenly makes VGA cable autodetection work awesomely?14:13

brycehhyperair, how do you mean?20:24
hyperairbryceh: i connect my monitor to my laptop via VGA cable. ubuntu automagically detects the new monitor, figures out that i want the monitor on the left of the LVDS (i've configured it this way before via gnome-display-properties), and automatically sets it up as such20:55
hyperairbryceh: i pull out the VGA cable from my laptop, and it detects that the monitor is gone, and switches back to single monitor mode using LVDS20:55
hyperairbryceh: in addition, pressing that special fn+f3 combo (for switching outputs) toggles between cloned, monitor-only, monitor-on-left, monitor-on-right, and lvds-only20:56
hyperairbryceh: the surprising thing is that super+p seems to do the same thing. now, i'm wondering what exactly handles all this magic, and whether super+p is configurable somewhere20:57
bjsniderhyperair, so, you're fairly happy with this state of affairs, yeah?20:59
hyperairbjsnider: i'm fairly happy with this state of affairs, yes.21:05
hyperairbjsnider: it's just that i keep accidentally hitting super+p21:05
brycehhyperair, ah, yeah I think that's not particular to xorg-edgers, I've noticed it doing that behavior throughout natty21:31
brycehhyperair, guessing its the new gnome-display-properties able to more smartly respond to monitor hotplug events21:32
bjsniderthat would mean gnome is now superior to xp int hat regard, although maybe just on par with vista and beyond21:36
