DaveMorrisany suggestions on which HDD config will be better for recordings, I can afford 4 2TB drives.  I plan on having 3 DVB-T and 2-4 DVB-S2.  Disks will all be local, with a quad 3GHz AMD.  All RAID will be the standard Linux software.16:18
DaveMorris a.) RAID 516:18
DaveMorris b.) RAID 616:18
DaveMorris c.) 2 X RAID1 with a storage group assigned to each one16:18
DaveMorrisplease highlight me with your response16:20

DaveMorris1ok, upgraded from karmic to lucid19:01
DaveMorris1now backend won't start (it got deleted for some reason)19:02
DaveMorris1dave@atlantia:~$ mythbackend19:02
DaveMorris1NVIDIA OpenGL Driver requires CPUs with SSE to run.19:02
DaveMorris1why do I need OpenGL now to run the backend?19:02
DaveMorris1I'm guessing it's linked against OpenGL and I've not got the correct Nvidia driver installed19:06
rhpot1991DaveMorris1: looks like the nvidia version in there doesn't support your cpu19:10
DaveMorris1yeah, gfx card isn't nvidia though19:10
DaveMorris1 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. Savage 4 (rev 03)19:10
rhpot1991you could always try installing an older version of nvidia from x-updates or jya's repo19:10
rhpot1991ah, well thats weird19:10
rhpot1991if you launch restricted drivers manager does it say that nvidia is enabled?19:11
DaveMorris1says nothing decteted19:11
DaveMorris1cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse sohws my CPU doesn't support SSE19:12
DaveMorris1yeah, somethings already pulled in a load of nvidia modules19:17
DaveMorris1packages even19:17
DaveMorris1fixed19:19
DaveMorris1sudo apt-get remove nvidia-173-modaliases nvidia-185-modaliases nvidia-96-modaliases nvidia-common nvidia-current nvidia-current-modaliases nvidia-settings19:19
DaveMorris1solved it19:19
DaveMorris1for the logs ;)19:19
DaveMorris1and google19:19
rhpot1991weird, nvidia-current prob19:20
rhpot1991modaliases should be fine, thats what restricted driver manager uses to check for the hardware19:20
DaveMorris1mythtv-backend also seemed to get deselected on the upgrade on both my backends, but not much point reporting it since karmic is end of life19:22
genecDaveMorris1: how did you upgrade?19:24
DaveMorris1do-release-upgrade19:25
DaveMorris10.24 seems to crash (hangs at least) whenever I exit a video19:30
geneciirc, that should have been best practice19:30
DaveMorris1ahh, alsa:pulse fixes that problem19:32
* DaveMorris1 grumbles, I don't like the mythbackend change, where you have to have a capature card for it to start21:28
mrandDaveMorris1: I don't recall the exact reason upstream did that.  You can always use a dummy tuner/card or, I think, even a network stream.21:37
superm1i don't like it either21:38
tgm4883DaveMorris, mrand superm1 I'm not sure I like it either, but a capture card has always been required for the backend to function according to upstream21:47
tgm4883it's just not until the latest version that there was a check in place21:47
superm1worked for me before21:47
tgm4883superm1, <tgm4883> it's just not until the latest version that there was a check in place21:48
DaveMorris1tgm4883: I have mydesktop setup as a slave to do commflagging22:23
DaveMorris1the master backend is under powered atm (dual P2 clocked 450Mhz)22:24
DaveMorris1mrand: yes you can, but I had to create a file for it to open as well22:25
DaveMorris1I guess the line checking could be patched out, or upstream might be nice and allow a pre-processor to disable it22:26
superm1if it's a simple patch out i'm game for that22:29
superm1i just dont want to get into something that has to be refreshed all the time22:30
DaveMorris1which is what would be nice with the pre-proccssor22:30
DaveMorris1you'd just pass in -DDISABLE_BACKEND_CAPATURECARD_CHECK22:30
superm1glad you're volunteering to go fight w/ em on it :)22:31
DaveMorris1haha22:31
DaveMorris1sure22:31
DaveMorris1btw one of the pages on the wiki was pointing at svn.mythtv rather than code.mythtv22:31
superm1both work don't they?22:32
DaveMorris1atm, wasn't sure if they'd dropped the svn subdomain though22:33
superm1go ahead and fix the wiki page if you come across it again22:33
DaveMorris1will do22:34
rhpot1991why not just make the fake tuner?22:46
DaveMorris1actually I've just tested and the slave backend will startup without a tuner22:55
DaveMorris1rhpot1991: it was complaining if the file didn't exist22:55
DaveMorris1and I could quite easily delete the file by mistake22:56
