jschall | bug 384920 is almost 2 years old... it affects me, and I'm hoping to find a good workaround or to provide someone with the information necessary to fix it. It's causing my wireless to connect at 8M when it should be connecting at 54M. I have a broadcom bcm4313 | 03:30 |

drew2121 | jschall: looking into it, but i cant promise anything | 03:35 |
jschall | drew2121: thanks, willing to offer any information necessary | 03:36 |
drew2121 | jschall: have you tried the fixes in the description? | 03:37 |
jschall | drew2121: look like temporary fixes | 03:38 |
drew2121 | jschall: that worked? | 03:38 |
jschall | drew2121: well, i can set it to 54M | 03:38 |
drew2121 | iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M fixed is a nother config you may wayt to set | 03:39 |
jschall | drew2121: but won't it revert if it reconnects? | 03:39 |
jschall | or if the computer is suspended or shut down or whatever? | 03:39 |
jschall | i'll try it for sure | 03:39 |
drew2121 | jschall: yes, thats why you either need to change your /etc/rc.local or run that command | 03:40 |
jschall | drew2121: set rate 54m fixed, rebooting to see what it comes up as | 03:40 |
drew2121 | jschall: see you in a few =) | 03:41 |
jschall | drew2121: it's a laptop :) | 03:41 |
jschall | drew2121: and this is a desktop | 03:41 |
drew2121 | jschall: ahh, well let me know what happens | 03:41 |
jschall | drew finished booting just now, waiting for it to connect | 03:41 |
jschall | drew2121: back to 8M | 03:42 |
drew2121 | hrm... | 03:42 |
jschall | drew2121: adding the lines to rc.local will run it when the machine boots, but not when i change SSIDs or suspend. i'll try it here, though. | 03:43 |
jschall | drew2121: restarting again | 03:44 |
drew2121 | jschall: true, i don't debug wireless but i can still help, and maybe get the status to triaged | 03:44 |
jschall | drew2121: came up as 54M | 03:45 |
drew2121 | jschall: how about after a sleep? | 03:45 |
jschall | drew2121: 54M after reconnect | 03:46 |
drew2121 | jschall: all working now then? | 03:46 |
jschall | drew2121: 54M after resume | 03:47 |
drew2121 | jschall: nice | 03:47 |
jschall | drew2121: i guess that workaround fixes it | 03:47 |
jschall | drew2121: isn't wifi supposed to automatically scale based on how bad a signal it has though? | 03:47 |
drew2121 | jschall: i'm not sure... i'm not a wireless expert =P | 03:48 |
jschall | drew2121: anyway, now it'd be nice if i could get 300M... that's the next step | 03:48 |
jschall | drew2121: apparently 802.11n doesn't work with these drivers | 03:48 |
jschall | drew2121: hate broadcom. | 03:48 |
drew2121 | jschall: what drivers are you using? proprietary? | 03:48 |
jschall | drew2121: yeah | 03:48 |
drew2121 | jschall: broadcom FTL | 03:49 |
jschall | drew2121: i don't really NEED 300M, but the netbook doesn't have gigabit on it so it'd be nice to get more speed than the 100Mbps ethernet can provide. | 03:49 |
jschall | drew2121: on data transfers | 03:49 |
drew2121 | jschall: yeah | 03:50 |
jschall | drew2121: also soon i'll likely have 50mbps cable, and i don't trust 54mbps wifi to provide that properly. | 03:51 |
jschall | drew2121: i guess i don't need it to on my netbook though. | 03:51 |
drew2121 | i'm pretty sure ethernet has always been faster for me than wireless | 03:52 |
drew2121 | jschall: i'm not sure if i have gigabit or not though | 03:52 |
jschall | drew2121: i just moved out of my parents' house into an apartment and bought gigabit everything. | 03:53 |
drew2121 | and im running G | 03:53 |
jschall | drew2121: it's nice. | 03:53 |
jschall | drew2121: transfer files between computers at hard drive's speed | 03:54 |
drew2121 | jschall: i'm pretty comfy with the setup i have now, once i get a job i'll probably buy better stuff... | 03:54 |
drew2121 | jschall: yeah, that would fantastic... i've transfered stuff that took me an hour or two to get across | 03:55 |

charlie-tca | trinikrono: done, thanks for sending that one upstream | 18:31 |
trinikrono | charlie-tca: you wonderful human being you | 18:31 |
charlie-tca | You are welcome | 18:32 |
trinikrono | i have been trying to get it triaged a whilen ow | 18:32 |
charlie-tca | Seems that it is still valid, too | 18:32 |
trinikrono | charlie-tca: yes it gets really bad after 2 days | 18:32 |
trinikrono | charlie-tca: can you stick around while i try to finish my 5 a day | 18:33 |
yofel | he's not the only one around so have fun ;) | 18:34 |
trinikrono | :D | 18:34 |
charlie-tca | There are many of us here. If I don't catch them, some one will. Besides, if you comment and change the status to confirmed, you get credit even if it doesn't get to triaged today | 18:35 |
trinikrono | micahg: so just check the package in rmadison | 19:27 |
micahg | trinikrono: there's already a WNPP bug | 19:27 |
micahg | also, just verify that it says is needed on wiki is present in the description | 19:27 |
micahg | and yes, you can check to see if it's in Ubuntu with rmadison | 19:28 |
trinikrono | so this bug is ready to be triaged? | 19:29 |

micahg | charlie-tca: no, I added a section, where something can be 'Triaged' for a needs packaging bug, it means that all the information needed is present | 20:26 |
micahg | confirmed is a problem since that means ready for upload | 20:26 |
charlie-tca | Okay. I still don't know enough about them to do it | 20:27 |

trinikrono | micahg: so can i get my bug triaged :D | 20:29 |
micahg | trinikrono: I actually asked some people what we should do about the RFPs, if I'm right, we need to update the wiki, if I'm wrong, you need to file one :) | 20:30 |
trinikrono | lol | 20:30 |
trinikrono | ill go find another packaging bug then | 20:30 |
* micahg wants to hug pidgin | 20:36

charlie-tca | start early, if you want to... | 20:42 |
micahg | charlie-tca: yep, just saw itr | 20:42 |
micahg | *it | 20:42 |
charlie-tca | hm, my email client went nuts! I don't know how bad I spammed the bugday message now. | 20:46 |
micahg | charlie-tca: I only got 2 so far | 20:48 |
yofel | I got 2 too | 20:48 |
charlie-tca | I will keep my fingers crossed; I showed about 8, but some seem to have failed to go out | 20:48 |
* charlie-tca trusts micahg fully on packaging bugs, he just doesn't know packaging very good himself. | 20:53
trinikrono | hey if a reporter wants a package updated | 21:42 |
trinikrono | should he file a report against the package he wants updated | 21:42 |
trinikrono | or what? | 21:43 |
micahg | trinikrono: yes, and tag it upgrade | 21:43 |
trinikrono | :D | 21:43 |
trinikrono | can you put that in the wiki somewhere | 21:43 |
micahg | trinikrono: if the version's already in Debian, a sync can be requested | 21:43 |
micahg | !tags | trinikrono | 21:43 |
ubot2 | trinikrono: We use some common tags for tracking bugs on Launchpad.net See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Tags for common usage. | 21:43 |
trinikrono | i meant the procedure | 21:44 |
trinikrono | but if its not in debian | 21:44 |
micahg | trinikrono: feel free to add something | 21:44 |
trinikrono | did they say if too file in debian? | 21:46 |
micahg | trinikrono: I've done it in the past, generally, take a look at the PTS and see if the version's listed, if it is, I don't think you need to file a bug, the problem is, only some DDs are uploading now since Debian's in deep freeze | 21:47 |
trinikrono | aha | 21:48 |
trinikrono | can you look at bug 699788 i just closed it because it asked for a upgrade of the package and i want to makesure i am doing the right thing | 21:49 |
ubot2 | Launchpad bug 699788 in ubuntu "[needs-packaging] QMidiArp (affects: 1) (heat: 8)" [Wishlist,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/699788 | 21:49 |
micahg | trinikrono: no, don't close, reassign and make sure it's still needed | 21:50 |
trinikrono | ok | 21:51 |
trinikrono | but if it is tagged upgrgade should the status be wishlist | 21:52 |
trinikrono | or low? | 21:52 |
micahg | trinikrono: wishlist unless something is broke | 21:52 |
trinikrono | but the status should be triaged or new? | 21:53 |
micahg | trinikrono: new | 21:53 |
trinikrono | :D | 21:53 |
micahg | err, doesn't matter, it's just a request | 21:53 |
trinikrono | right | 21:56 |
trinikrono | so does it look good now? | 21:56 |
yofel | note: wishlist is an importance, not a status | 21:56 |
trinikrono | yes | 21:57 |
yofel | ok, I just saw a lot of misunderstandings in the past from mixing that | 21:58 |
trinikrono | icant set importance anyways :D | 21:59 |
trinikrono | so i can leave this bug alone now, i assinged to the package and set it too new and changed the name | 22:01 |
trinikrono | and put the upgrade tag | 22:01 |
yofel | micahg: that can be set triaged, can it? - or do update requests also fall under developer process bugs? | 22:05 |
micahg | yofel: I think developer process and there's no point in marking it triaged | 22:05 |
trinikrono | this needs to go in the wiki | 22:06 |
trinikrono | :D | 22:06 |
trinikrono | http://paste.ubuntu.com/555565/ what do you guys think | 22:10 |
micahg | trinikrono: I would say title should be 'Please update foo to version bar', also idk about other info | 22:14 |
trinikrono | lol | 22:15 |
trinikrono | maybe this is a motu thing | 22:15 |
* micahg is a MOTU :) | 22:19
trinikrono | lol | 22:19 |
trinikrono | what about the other ones | 22:20 |
trinikrono | if the package is not in debian | 22:20 |
trinikrono | does it need the rtp | 22:20 |
micahg | rfp? | 22:21 |
trinikrono | yes that | 22:21 |
trinikrono | this is all very new to me | 22:21 |
micahg | trinikrono: idk, I'll try to get an answer | 22:22 |
bencahill | is it ok to discuss a possible bug in here? | 22:33 |
yofel | bencahill: fire away | 22:35 |
bencahill | yofel: ok, great :) I'm waiting on someone in #u to confirm, but I'm pretty sure it's not something specific to me. see below: | 22:35 |
bencahill | so you start with no windows open...then open two (let's say terminal) windows...then click the 'show desktop' button (or press mod4 + d), they both minimize. Then if you restore one window by click on it on the bottom panel, and click 'show desktop' or mod4+d, the other window re-appears. I do not believe this is the intended behavior. I would think that whenever there are any windows open, the show desktop function should show the desktop | 22:35 |
bencahill | confirmed by nothingspecial in #u | 22:36 |
yofel | hm, I don't use gnome myself so I'm not sure how they want it, I wouldn't expect that behaviour either though | 22:42 |
yofel | does anyone know what package that would be? | 22:44 |
trinikrono | micahg: check you later! | 22:52 |
trinikrono | later guys o/ | 22:52 |
bencahill | yofel: perhaps gnome-desktop-environment ? | 22:53 |
yofel | nope, that's a meta package, I thought gnome-applets for a moment, but that doesn't seem to be it | 22:55 |
yofel | someone else will have to help you there | 22:55 |
bencahill | yofel: yeah, because it is not just with the applets, but with the mod4 + d shortcut, so whatever function (or whatever) that calls... | 23:34 |
yofel | maybe metacity or compiz - I don't know how show desktop works in gnome | 23:35 |
