theTravok, so I've created a volume on my SC, attached it to my image as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEC/StorageController and hybridfox says it's all good and attached00:59
theTravhowever I can't see it in /dev00:59
theTravI can see sda as well as sda1 2 and 301:00
theTravis there any good way of determining which of those are the attached volume?01:00
theTravshould they go away if I detach it?01:00
theTravhmm, another thing.. It seems I can only attach these volumes to one image at a time...  does that mean there's no concurrently shared storage in the cloud?  or that I have to set it up as network storage?01:05
flaccidthats correct01:05
flaccidsee ebs snapshots01:05
flaccidconsider rsync or nfs01:05
theTravok, well if that's the case then I probably don't need that form of storage at all01:07
theTravI can just do everything on the ram disk01:07
theTravwill probably be faster01:08

kim0cdbs: Hi there08:18
cdbshi kim008:18
kim0what was your question08:18
cdbskim0: Ubuntu on EC2 is officially supported by Canonical. Why not Rackspace? RS has better support and better pricing. If canonical doesn't wish to partner with RS, then atleast it should be mentioned on cloud.ubuntu.com that Ubuntu works well on RS08:19
cdbsmoreover, www.ubuntu.com/cloud/public is filled with EC208:19
kim0Ubuntu server engineers generate official ubuntu server images and publish them to Amazon ec208:21
cdbsyep08:21
kim0the same images are valid for UEC08:21
cdbsand Rackspace does that independently08:21
kim0and since UEC exposes an ec2 compatible interface08:22
kim0hence as you say, ec2 is directly supported08:22
cdbs:o08:22
kim0supporting a different cloud provider08:22
kim0is well not a problem .. i.e. ubuntu is supporting openstack which is developed by RS08:23
cdbsrackspacecloud DOES make images for Ubuntu.. They made the maverick image 15 days after maverick release08:23
cdbsoh yeahm there is openstack08:23
kim0however at this stage, I think it's only a numbers game08:23
kim0It's my understanding RS will switch to openstack soonish08:23
cdbsso then it will be easier I guess08:24
kim0I guess so as well08:24
kim0nothing is public or official however yet08:24
kim0there are thousands of hosting companies worldwide08:24
kim0as mentioned, ec2 gets attention only bec of size08:24
kim0but yes RS is quite big as well ..08:24
kim0and hopefully will be directly supported soon08:25

kirklandachiang: it's a simple shell script17:15
kirklandachiang: basically, your kernel thinks vt is disabled in the bios17:15
achiangkirkland: yep, i see it now, in dmesg17:16
kirklandachiang: did you physically power your ssytem off and back on, after changing bios?17:16
kirkland        echo "HINT: Enter your BIOS setup and enable Virtualization Technology (VT),"17:16
kirkland        echo "      and then hard poweroff/poweron your system"17:16
achiangkirkland: well, thing is, i went into BIOS and it was already turned on17:17
achiangso i didn't actually change anything17:17
kirklandachiang: what kind of machine is this?17:17

achiangkirkland: ^^17:29
kirklandachiang: thanks a lot;  yeah, something is wrong bios-level with this machine17:30
achiangkirkland: nod. i don't have time to hack on it, trying to get some stuff done before holiday starts17:31
kirklandachiang: if i were you, i would power on, go into bios, turn off vt, save bios, boot, hard power off, go back into bios, turn on vt, boot, hard power off, then boot normal17:31
achiangkirkland: oh right, re: skiing... i'm already committed to Winter Park for that weekend. :)17:31
kirklandachiang: cool17:31
kirklandachiang: cool, man, have fun ;-)17:31
achiangkirkland: that's worth a shot, i can try that later17:31
achiangkirkland: thanks you too! i'll do the snow god dance17:32
