yrussHi i'm using 11.04 Natty and tried to run Vmware player but it demands to compile linux headers. Command uname -r shows 2.6.32-25-generic. I cant build-essentials through apt-get: Unable to locate package linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic. But i can see that in usr/scr/ i have more newer version of linux-headers - 2.6.35-25. So the question is should i somehow update my linux-headers to a newer verion? If no - how what should i do to run 09:52
yrussplayer? If yes - how can do it? thnx09:52

DJKorbiti'm using natty and there are some really annoying bugs that i don't know how to report10:35

DJKorbitthe first one is that clicking the icons in the notification area (i guess they are now called indicators) doesn't open the menu10:36
DJKorbitif i click the icon to shutdown, it doesn't show the options for restart, etc.10:37
DJKorbitsame for the clock and other icons10:37
DJKorbitthe other bug is that some areas of the screen don't capture the mouse click, i have to drag the window to the right to be able to click a button10:38
DJKorbitfor example, with chrome in full screen i can't archive an e-mail10:38
DJKorbiti have to move the window to the right to be able to click it10:38
DJKorbitreally weird bug10:38

galamari cant get netflix to work. but everyother video sit works?15:46
PiciNetflix does not work natively on Linux15:47
galamarat all end of story?15:48
BluesKajPici, someone mentioned with the right setup , netfix can run in wine.15:49
galamarthata what i was thinking or a vm of some sort?15:49
BluesKajI deliberately installed windows in this media server pc just for netfix , we watched one movie , none of the other stuff appealed to us so i cancelled my subscription and wiped windows :)15:51
PiciI bought a settop bluray player that could stream netflix. /me shrugs15:52
genii-aroundBluesKaj: Their rates seem reasonable, but I guess if the selection sucks why bother15:52
galamarwell i dont pay for it15:52
galamarso if i try wine what browser should i use ff ie or opera?15:53
BluesKajPici, genii-around ,yeah well some might like the movie offerings . but we're old grouches and most of the stuff wasn't our taste.15:53
galamarim gonna start with ff wined. i gotta go im remote an the ipod is dying. thank you for the help15:57
patdk-wknetflix only work with ie15:57
patdk-wkit needs silverlight15:57
galamarOk Ty I'll do that than15:58
galamarbut on netflix it suggests ff? why is that?15:59
patdk-wkhmm, I don't see them suggesting ff16:02
galamarwhen it tells me it cant play it says what is required and makes no mention of ie16:02
* patdk-wk is going try ff16:02
patdk-wkhmm, it does work16:03
galamarwell at my friends house ( windows pc) theu can use any browser16:04
patdk-wkoh, ff silerlight plug-in :)16:04
patdk-wkbet if I disable it :)16:04
galamarsweet but i still need use wine right?16:05
patdk-wkya, for silverlight16:05
galamarok thanks everyone.16:05
patdk-wkI wonder if moonlight will work16:06
patdk-wkmoonlight is only silverlight 3.0 compat :(16:09
patdk-wkdoesn't play :(16:09
galamarits ok i WILL make it work16:09
patdk-wknice16:10
patdk-wkchanging my browser useragent string made it *almost* play16:10
patdk-wkActiveX is disabled16:10
patdk-wknetflix movie viewer requires activex to be enabled16:10
patdk-wklets try a firefox windows useragent tag :)16:11
patdk-wkok, using windows firefox useragent tag16:15
patdk-wkPlayer Error, Error code: N800116:15
patdk-wkand moonlight said there could be incompatabilies16:15
patdk-wkso moonlight almost supports it16:16
galamaryou know alot more than me16:18
patdk-wkthis is moonlight 2.216:18
patdk-wkI wonder if I should try 2.99.0.1016:18
patdk-wkgalamar, I just learned this in the last 10 min :)16:18
galamarwow if i was actually at my desktop i could try more16:19
patdk-wkif I could get netflix working without using my windows vm16:19
patdk-wkmy windowsvm will only be used for vsphere usage16:19
patdk-wksomehow I bet playing a movie back in linux is going be much more friendly than inside a windows vm anyways16:20
galamari think so also16:20
patdk-wkdamn16:31
patdk-wkupgraded to nightly build of moonlight16:31
patdk-wkgot closer :(16:31
patdk-wkInternet Connection Problem, Error code: N8101-10616:32
patdk-wkmoonlight 2.99.0.9.99 claims silverlight 4.0 support though16:32
patdk-wkhmm16:33
patdk-wk"lacks DRM support which Netflix requires"16:33
yaaaryeah...you're not gonna get netflix streaming to work16:48
* patdk-wk gave it a good try though :)16:49
Ian_Corneit just doesn't work16:50
Ian_Corne:p16:50
patdk-wkbut it is interesting they are only restricting it based on useragent string though16:55
patdk-wkand not anything else16:55
Ian_CorneWell, if you can't decode, you're screwed anyways :p16:56
galamarwill a wine installed program restart my pc?16:56

anon33_Anyone here notice that Firefox 4b10 lacks font hinting (has a weird blurriness to it)  as compared to Google Chrome or any other Gnome program?20:45
genii-aroundHm. : mkdir foo && sudo cd foo            ... "sudo: cd: command not found"20:47
anon33_Anyone else have a text blurriness in Firefox like I do? http://i.imgur.com/Kv6dH.png It's not respecting the hinting options I have set for Gnome.20:54
guntbertgenii-around: cd is a bash-builtin21:01
guntbertgenii-around: and why would you want to sudo cd ?21:01
genii-aroundguntbert: So need something like sudo bash -c cd foo                        syntax?21:01
genii-aroundguntbert: When for instance the regular user has no access to a directory due to permissions21:01
yofelthat'll need bash -c, as you need to cd and run whatever you want in one go21:02
guntbertgenii-around: ack, so we separate it from the mkdir ...21:02
anon33_Anyone else here have problem using Firefox4b9 64bit?21:05

magn3tsDoes Unity have special multitouch support built in?21:05
genii-aroundanon33_: Other than npviewer occasionally chunking out with segfaults and cryptic errors, no21:05
magn3tsIE: Is this video related to Unity or a different thing called Unity: http://lii-enac.fr/en/architecture/linux-input/#tuiototouch21:06
anon33_genii-around: That's the most recent beta right? Because each time I download it and try to launch the ./firefox executable it says that the firefox-bin file isn't there, but when I try to launch that it says it doesn't exist.21:07
genii-aroundguntbert: It was just something I came across earlier when trying to cd into a dir within /etc which regular user was not allowed. I used after sudo -i  but do not like remaining at # prompt long21:07
genii-aroundanon33_: I am using the build from mozilla-daily ppa21:07
anon33_Is that a nightly or beta version?21:08
yofelnightly, works fine for me too21:08
anon33_The nightly's fine. It's the beta download from the website.21:08
guntbertgenii-around: understandable, I have no idea about the "bash -c ... " thing though (and I am too lazy to read up)21:09

bloodriverpardon...but will the Unity dock have autohide/intelligent hide and/or be removeable.  In the alpha I can access the 'normal' gnome panels...will this be true in the final version?22:09
rwwbloodriver: Last I heard, it'll have intellihide22:10
evilvishand not removable..22:11
bloodriverrww: intellihide- good  unremovable: bad22:11
bloodriverI can access gnome panels in the alpha will this still be true in the final version?22:12
evilvishhence the evil guy mentioned the bad news :p22:12
bloodriverand...questions, questions...will the top panel have a 'hide feature?22:13
Daekdroombloodriver, in the Ubuntu Desktop Edition Session, gnome panel isn't supposed to load22:13
Daekdroomand it doesn't here.22:13
bloodriverDaekdroom: I can access  gnome panels in UDES22:15
charlie-tcathe already hides itself in the daily images22:15
DaekdroomLike I said, it's not the default behaviour.22:16
bloodriverokay thanks...will there be a Gnome Ubuntu version?  Change is hard!  I've never been a fan of docks either22:18
yofelsure, it's called classic in gdm22:19
evilvishbloodriver: just use the classic desktop22:19
charlie-tcaWhen you log in, click your name, then look at the bottom for session22:19
bloodrivergroovy22:20
bloodriverokay...last question...is it Natty+1 or Ubuntu+1...then *+2 etc after this?22:21
charlie-tcaubuntu+1 is always the development version22:21
charlie-tcanatty is a codename. It becomes Ubuntu 11.04 when released22:22
bloodrivermaybe I misread that...I thought they were dropping codenames (a,b,c, et el) and going to a numbering code...I was looking forward to Oscillating Ocelot22:23
bloodriverPrancing Pachyderm22:24
Daekdroombloodriver, it hasn't been discussed, so it's safe to assume it's staying the way it is.22:25
rwwnatty, maverick, lucid, etc. are codenames used during development because the release could be delayed and thus using year.month makes no sense.22:25
charlie-tcaEach release gets a code name as it starts development, then gets a release number of the year and month released22:25
rwwpeople apparently hate numbers and use the development codenames after release too, though22:25
BUGabundoand that only happened ONCE :)22:25
Daekdroomrww, they're cool names :P22:25
evilvishheh22:26
bloodriverokay...thanks for hipping me to the skinny22:26
