[04:44] any one help with wake on lan setup? === sagaci_ is now known as sagaci [07:07] is anyone else having nautilus troubles? [09:47] hello all [09:47] hello! [09:48] well, shortly my problem. latest natty won't work on my laptop. problem is black screen. how I can report it? [09:49] it boots from live cd finally but not from installed system [09:49] bios - purple screen - nothing - than x-error [09:50] kva: Have you done todays dist-upgrade ? [09:50] debian works fine. any ideas? [09:50] well, I got today's daily iso [09:50] with zsync... [09:51] so well, dist-upgrade won't help :-) [09:51] kva: Just a thought as my system failed yesterday but todays upgrade cleared it up ok [09:52] nope, it was same for about a week ago [09:52] but that was 11.04 stable [09:52] Hi i'm using 11.04 Natty and tried to run Vmware player but it demands to compile linux headers. Command uname -r shows 2.6.32-25-generic. I cant build-essentials through apt-get: Unable to locate package linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic. But i can see that in usr/scr/ i have more newer version of linux-headers - 2.6.35-25. So the question is should i somehow update my linux-headers to a newer verion? If no - how what should i do to run [09:52] player? If yes - how can do it? thnx [10:34] good morning [10:35] morning [10:35] i'm using natty and there are some really annoying bugs that i don't know how to report [10:36] I have same problem :-( [10:36] the first one is that clicking the icons in the notification area (i guess they are now called indicators) doesn't open the menu [10:37] if i click the icon to shutdown, it doesn't show the options for restart, etc. [10:37] same for the clock and other icons [10:38] the other bug is that some areas of the screen don't capture the mouse click, i have to drag the window to the right to be able to click a button [10:38] for example, with chrome in full screen i can't archive an e-mail [10:38] i have to move the window to the right to be able to click it [10:38] really weird bug [10:39] how should i report those bugs? [10:39] sure but I don't know how [10:40] ok [10:41] i'm performing an upgrade to see if the bugs get fixed [12:51] helle natty people! [12:52] hi [12:52] anyone else having issues installing natty in vmware? [12:52] it bombs while copying files on console-setup [12:52] not tried psypher246 , have it installed directly on my notebook though [12:52] so it installed without error? [12:52] yep [12:53] hmmm [12:53] psypher246, you may want to get the rss feed of natty changes [12:53] ok [12:54] http://feeds.ubuntu-nl.org/NattyChanges [12:54] thx [12:54] welcome [13:10] Hi folks === Quintasan_ is now known as Quintasan === IAmNotThatGuy is now known as M0hi [15:46] i cant get netflix to work. but everyother video sit works? [15:47] Netflix does not work natively on Linux [15:48] at all end of story? [15:49] Pici, someone mentioned with the right setup , netfix can run in wine. [15:49] thata what i was thinking or a vm of some sort? [15:51] I deliberately installed windows in this media server pc just for netfix , we watched one movie , none of the other stuff appealed to us so i cancelled my subscription and wiped windows :) [15:52] I bought a settop bluray player that could stream netflix. /me shrugs [15:52] BluesKaj: Their rates seem reasonable, but I guess if the selection sucks why bother [15:52] well i dont pay for it [15:53] so if i try wine what browser should i use ff ie or opera? [15:53] Pici, genii-around ,yeah well some might like the movie offerings . but we're old grouches and most of the stuff wasn't our taste. [15:57] im gonna start with ff wined. i gotta go im remote an the ipod is dying. thank you for the help [15:57] netflix only work with ie [15:57] it needs silverlight [15:58] Ok Ty I'll do that than [15:59] but on netflix it suggests ff? why is that? [16:02] hmm, I don't see them suggesting ff [16:02] when it tells me it cant play it says what is required and makes no mention of ie [16:02] * patdk-wk is going try ff [16:03] hmm, it does work [16:04] well at my friends house ( windows pc) theu can use any browser [16:04] oh, ff silerlight plug-in :) [16:04] bet if I disable it :) [16:05] sweet but i still need use wine right? [16:05] ya, for silverlight [16:05] ok thanks everyone. [16:06] I wonder if moonlight will work [16:09] moonlight is only silverlight 3.0 compat :( [16:09] doesn't play :( [16:09] its ok i WILL make it work [16:10] nice [16:10] changing my browser useragent string made it *almost* play [16:10] ActiveX is disabled [16:10] netflix movie viewer requires activex to be enabled [16:11] lets try a firefox windows useragent tag :) [16:15] ok, using windows firefox useragent tag [16:15] Player Error, Error code: N8001 [16:15] and moonlight said there could be incompatabilies [16:16] so moonlight almost supports it [16:18] you know alot more than me [16:18] this is moonlight 2.2 [16:18] I wonder if I should try 2.99.0.10 [16:18] galamar, I just learned this in the last 10 min :) [16:19] wow if i was actually at my desktop i could try more [16:19] if I could get netflix working without using my windows vm [16:19] my windowsvm will only be used for vsphere usage [16:20] somehow I bet playing a movie back in linux is going be much more friendly than inside a windows vm anyways [16:20] i think so also [16:31] damn [16:31] upgraded to nightly build of moonlight [16:31] got closer :( [16:32] Internet Connection Problem, Error code: N8101-106 [16:32] moonlight 2.99.0.9.99 claims silverlight 4.0 support though [16:33] hmm [16:33] "lacks DRM support which Netflix requires" [16:48] yeah...you're not gonna get netflix streaming to work [16:49] * patdk-wk gave it a good try though :) [16:50] it just doesn't work [16:50] :p [16:55] but it is interesting they are only restricting it based on useragent string though [16:55] and not anything else [16:56] Well, if you can't decode, you're screwed anyways :p [16:56] will a wine installed program restart my pc? [18:38] hi all [18:38] when I start cairo-dock my title bar disappears, if I quit it and restart the window manager it reappears, anyone know why or how I can have a look at what happens from the console?I'm running compiz [19:02] well, so anyone can give me a hint how to report to you a blank screen problem? [19:10] can you switch to a tty using Ctrl+Alt+F2? [19:11] kva, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen === cmagina is now known as cmagina-shovelin === yofel_ is now known as yofel === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu+1 to: Natty Narwhal 11.04 | Milestones: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NattyReleaseSchedule | Maverick/10.10 support in #ubuntu | Alpha 1 Released: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/natty/alpha1 | Warning: New X.org stack is being uploaded, be warned about partial upgrades removing X packages: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2011-January/032355.htm === cmagina-shovelin is now known as cmagina [20:06] hey all [20:17] hey all [20:18] awn-settings keeps crashing even after update and cairo-dock at start crashes the title bar in compiz [20:19] pr0ph3t, ooo [20:20] pr0ph3t, that's shouldnt be happening obviously... which version of cairo dock ? [20:22] pr0ph3t, here I am using 2.2.1~0beta1 [20:22] pr0ph3t, I am not having issues with the dock and compiz... [20:27] pr0ph3t, you might want to install the bzr developer's version of cairo dock [20:30] recently, I keep getting alerts from evolution that it can't perform a query, I believe it related to google contacts address books, does anyone know about this? what is the package that adds google contacts sync support to evolution's address book? === charlie-tca__ is now known as charlie-tca [20:45] Anyone here notice that Firefox 4b10 lacks font hinting (has a weird blurriness to it) as compared to Google Chrome or any other Gnome program? [20:47] Hm. : mkdir foo && sudo cd foo ... "sudo: cd: command not found" [20:54] Anyone else have a text blurriness in Firefox like I do? http://i.imgur.com/Kv6dH.png It's not respecting the hinting options I have set for Gnome. [21:01] genii-around: cd is a bash-builtin [21:01] genii-around: and why would you want to sudo cd ? [21:01] guntbert: So need something like sudo bash -c cd foo syntax? [21:01] guntbert: When for instance the regular user has no access to a directory due to permissions [21:02] that'll need bash -c, as you need to cd and run whatever you want in one go [21:02] genii-around: ack, so we separate it from the mkdir ... [21:05] Anyone else here have problem using Firefox4b9 64bit? [21:05] problems* [21:05] Does Unity have special multitouch support built in? [21:05] anon33_: Other than npviewer occasionally chunking out with segfaults and cryptic errors, no [21:06] IE: Is this video related to Unity or a different thing called Unity: http://lii-enac.fr/en/architecture/linux-input/#tuiototouch [21:07] genii-around: That's the most recent beta right? Because each time I download it and try to launch the ./firefox executable it says that the firefox-bin file isn't there, but when I try to launch that it says it doesn't exist. [21:07] guntbert: It was just something I came across earlier when trying to cd into a dir within /etc which regular user was not allowed. I used after sudo -i but do not like remaining at # prompt long [21:07] anon33_: I am using the build from mozilla-daily ppa [21:08] Is that a nightly or beta version? [21:08] nightly, works fine for me too [21:08] The nightly's fine. It's the beta download from the website. [21:09] genii-around: understandable, I have no idea about the "bash -c ... " thing though (and I am too lazy to read up) === magn3ts_ is now known as magn3ts [21:29] o/ [21:29] so anyone installed .38 kernel yet? [21:29] I might do it [21:29] just not sure nouveua will old it [21:29] *hold [21:42] hi guys i know this is for ubuntu 10.10 and natty but i have an issue with my webserver on 10.04 and im not sure what is causing it [21:42] if anyone could have a quick look id appreciate [21:42] http://unrealkillers.com/forum.php [21:42] This channel's just for 11.04/natty, actually. And knowing that you're not supposed to ask in here doesn't make it okay to do so ;P [21:43] * BUGabundo hides [21:44] SAM__, try #ubuntu-server [22:09] pardon...but will the Unity dock have autohide/intelligent hide and/or be removeable. In the alpha I can access the 'normal' gnome panels...will this be true in the final version? [22:10] bloodriver: Last I heard, it'll have intellihide [22:11] and not removable.. [22:11] rww: intellihide- good unremovable: bad [22:12] I can access gnome panels in the alpha will this still be true in the final version? [22:12] hence the evil guy mentioned the bad news :p [22:13] and...questions, questions...will the top panel have a 'hide feature? [22:13] bloodriver, in the Ubuntu Desktop Edition Session, gnome panel isn't supposed to load [22:13] and it doesn't here. [22:15] Daekdroom: I can access gnome panels in UDES [22:15] the already hides itself in the daily images [22:16] Like I said, it's not the default behaviour. [22:18] okay thanks...will there be a Gnome Ubuntu version? Change is hard! I've never been a fan of docks either [22:19] sure, it's called classic in gdm [22:19] bloodriver: just use the classic desktop [22:19] When you log in, click your name, then look at the bottom for session [22:20] groovy [22:21] okay...last question...is it Natty+1 or Ubuntu+1...then *+2 etc after this? [22:21] ubuntu+1 is always the development version [22:22] natty is a codename. It becomes Ubuntu 11.04 when released [22:23] maybe I misread that...I thought they were dropping codenames (a,b,c, et el) and going to a numbering code...I was looking forward to Oscillating Ocelot [22:24] Prancing Pachyderm [22:25] bloodriver, it hasn't been discussed, so it's safe to assume it's staying the way it is. [22:25] natty, maverick, lucid, etc. are codenames used during development because the release could be delayed and thus using year.month makes no sense. [22:25] Each release gets a code name as it starts development, then gets a release number of the year and month released [22:25] people apparently hate numbers and use the development codenames after release too, though [22:25] and that only happened ONCE :) [22:25] rww, they're cool names :P [22:26] heh [22:26] okay...thanks for hipping me to the skinny === cmagina-lunch is now known as cmagina [23:52] !info indicator-applet-appmenu [23:52] indicator-applet-appmenu (source: indicator-applet): Clone of the GNOME panel indicator applet. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.4.6-0ubuntu3 (natty), package size 16 kB, installed size 104 kB [23:52] Interesting. [23:55] Despite still thinking Unity is too unstable right now, I'll use that in classic gnome so I can get used to it :P
