[02:09] hello? [02:14] Is anyone active in here? [04:44] bug #1 [04:44] Launchpad bug 1 in Ubuntu "Microsoft has a majority market share" [Critical,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1 [04:53] phillw, I think that bug is related to drivers [04:53] it's the biggest issue [07:24] hi everyone [07:26] hello [09:19] yop [09:20] french speaking chan ? [09:21] For Lubuntu? [09:21] Not that I know :) [09:21] yes [09:21] For Ubuntu prolly #ubuntu-fr ? [09:23] i have some problems with dpkg , installing lubuntu on an old asus a2d , athlon xp , 256 mo . after 10 mn "running dpkg" the computer turns off ... [09:24] overheating [09:25] Seems like hardware issues :-/ [09:26] there were no problems with xubuntu 8.04 [09:27] Weird :-/ [09:27] and no problems using lubuntu live cd , [09:28] clean your fan [09:28] before installing , i have updated Xubuntu ( computer has not been used since 705 days ) and no problems ... [09:28] i have cleaned the whole computer ... [09:30] lubuntu is now installed , but i have had the same probleme with the update ... [09:40] tchouque_nourric: are you updating via update-manager or with apt-get? [09:51] sorry this was not an update , just trying to repair broken packages [09:52] i 'm going to install update manager [09:53] so what are the specific error messages? [09:53] or what are you running? dpkg -r ? [09:54] sorry, not -r :) [09:54] i was using synaptic [09:55] it was late, yesterday and i missed copying the error message , but it was about dpkg [09:56] ok, try "sudo dpkg --configure -a" in the terminal (because dpkg was interrupted by the overheating-shutdown) [09:56] ok [10:00] it works ! [10:01] so your problem is solved? [10:02] hi? [10:02] ano: why the question mark? [10:02] yes \o/ [10:02] i don't use irc (at all really) - seems weird to drop in & out. :) [10:03] just wanted to report back that i unbricked my acer aspire one happy! [10:03] ano: you seem to contradict yourself saying _on irc_ that you're never _on irc_ ;) [10:03] LOL [10:03] well this is the first time in say 15 years [10:03] and then it was just to see how it worked [10:04] it took 24hrs of sleuthing, but i found the local (non-maximum toll) phone number for local acer support [10:04] :) [10:04] and it was like a scene from the IT Crowd [10:05] have you tried plugging the battery in and out [10:05] ? [10:05] (duh!) [10:05] haha [10:05] i did & it worked! [10:05] LOL [10:05] ano: you surely know this one: http://xkcd.com/806/ [10:05] i'm so humiliated / well humbled! [10:06] oh yes - classic! on my door! [10:06] :) [10:07] got to go get lunch - see you all again (but hopefully not in another decade!) [10:07] bon appetit [10:07] mercy buckets! === szczur_ is now known as szczur [11:35] re ... during update , overheating when installing ... and now i have no keyboard and mouse ( it works with live cd ) [12:44] Hello, there! how do I create and open a shortcut to the Desktop from a directory [say, 'Documents']? [12:45] you want Documents Folder to your Desktop as a shortcut to ~/Documents [13:02] bioterror: I am sorry, but I came back to read your reply as promptly as I could; yes, that is what I want, but it is not working for me when I just create the symbolic link on the Desktop... [13:03] yeah [13:10] hey, is lubuntu safe enough to be given to someone very new to ubuntu and linux in general? [13:10] I see there are many known issues mentioned in the release notes [13:15] rick_2047: what are the pc's capacities? [13:15] rick_2047: it's fine for new users, if you read the release notes for the normal Ubuntu you'll see a lot more known issues. [13:16] Timo_: its a p4 (3.2GHz) and 512+256 ram [13:16] It's more about letting you know what you might have issues with that have already been fixed in upcoming versions but not yet in the current release. [13:16] ANd that will be GREAT on Lubuntu (I had a 3.2 up until a week ago running Lubuntu - the MB died on me) [13:17] so its as easy and not-pain-in-the-ass as the plain ubuntu [13:17] ? [13:18] I didn't think normal Ubuntu was pain in the ass either [13:19] I said not pain in the ass [13:19] anyways [13:19] I think I will download and burn a CD then [13:19] if it improves the boot up time [13:19] I would do anything [13:20] head_victim: what was the boot time that you had? [13:20] head_victim: I had a boot time of 1:30 mins with 9.10 [13:21] I'm not sure, I don't turn my pc's off unless the power goes out [13:22] o darn === zmijunkie_ is now known as zmijunkie [14:33] hi [14:33] Hey les === zmijunkie_ is now known as zmijunkie [17:02] hiyas ochosi you have an invite to #lubuntu-offtopic [18:17] what is the easiest way to take a screenshot in Lubuntu? [18:19] scrot [18:19] Apparently [18:22] Thanks === zkriesse_ is now known as zkriesse [19:30] hi all [19:30] this is weird, lubuntu just froze on the Eee... does anyone have a clue as to why this could happen? [19:31] aaaand... it runs again === IdleOne_ is now known as IdleOne === IdleOne is now known as gpc [22:08] Hi. I need help with enabling USB automount on a new setup of Lubuntu. [22:08] lsusb displays the usb pen, however it's not automounted [22:09] should be [22:10] you dont see it in pcmanfm? [22:11] I don't see it anywhere. What is pcmanfm? When I type pcmanfm in terminal the home directory is opened. [22:12] OK. pcmanfm is the file explorer. No, it's not there. [22:13] I've ticked all three options under pcmanfm --> Preferences -- Volume Managment [22:14] I should add that I previously installed Mint Fluxbox, but eventually reinstalled (choosing Lubuntu) because I wasn't able to enable auto mount of usb pen. I've tried two different usb pens, both formatted fat32 and confirmed working on ordinary Ubuntu. [22:15] Both /mnt and /media is empty. Auto mount of optical drive is working properly. [22:17] The machine is a Packard Bell EasyNote W3344 D [23:40] bug #1 [23:40] Launchpad bug 1 in Ubuntu "Microsoft has a majority market share" [Critical,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1
