[07:25] hi deegee_, DraZoro [08:22] good mornings [08:47] lo inetpro [08:48] deegee_: hi [08:48] daniel: hi [08:48] deegee_: why you have a tail? [08:49] how do I setup a pppoe client on my wireless interface [08:49] could get rid of it.... noticed my nick is used somewhere else.... [08:49] deegee_: ahh [08:49] * deegee_ is trtacking duplicate nicks [08:49] daniel: what version of ubuntu? [08:50] ubuntu 10.10 [08:50] daniel: hmm... I've never set up a pppoe connection on ubuntu [08:50] deegee_: you done it? [08:51] perhaps froztbyte or cocooncrash [08:51] or superfly [08:51] inetpro: I've done it, but only via the command line [08:51] drubin: you also use ubuntu all the time [08:51] inetpro: nope [08:52] Maaz: google for setting up pppoe on ubuntu [08:52] superfly: "ADSLPPPoE - Community Ubuntu Documentation" https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ADSLPPPoE :: "PPPoE Modems" https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/internet/C/modems-adsl-pppoe.html :: "Installing Ubuntu using PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/installation-guide/powerpc/pppoe.html :: "Connecting to the Internet" https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html :: "Configuring PPPOE connection - Ubuntu Forums" http: [08:52] looks like there is some documentation hanging around [08:53] http://lmgtfy.com/?q=setting+up+pppoe+on+ubuntu [08:55] hmm... what's the difference between a ppp and a pppoe coonnection? [08:55] Maaz: define ppp [08:55] superfly: PPP n 1: surgical resection of unnecessary palatal and oropharyngeal tissue to open the airway; intended to cure extreme cases of snoring (with or without sleep apnea) [syn: {palatopharyngoplasty}, {PPP}, {uvulopalatopharyngoplasty}, {UPPP}], PPP Point-to-Point Protocol (Internet, PPP, RFC 1171/1661) [08:55] Maaz: define pppoe [08:55] superfly: PPPOE Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet [protocol] (ADSL, RFC 2516), "PPPoE" [08:55] :-) === deegee_ is now known as plustwo [08:58] daniel: please tell us if you succeeded or not [09:00] * inetpro wonders whether daniel is still around [09:01] i am [09:03] daniel: cool, I hope you found something from the links above [09:04] daniel: feel free to ask more questions, I'm sure someone should have more answers even if they all seem very busy [09:05] inetpro: thanks for the help I've got some reading to do [09:05] daniel: np [09:13] think I made a mistake. Turned down a lady calling wrt. Java devs in Pretoria. I don't know where she got my name, so how she got the work number is even stranger [09:13] nuvolari: it's never a mistake to turn down a recruiter :-P [09:15] superfly: lol ok, good then. [09:15] why exactly is it not a mistake? [09:15] Because they usually suck. [09:16] And use spam tactics, and try to get you to do their job for them for free. [09:19] And, more often than not, they don't actually know anything about IT [09:19] I've almost never come across a recruiter that doesn't play buzzword bingo [09:20] Also, they call you during working hours -- when you are *working*. [09:21] Not only is this annoying, it seems unlikely that you will be keen to discuss your desire to leave your job over the phone *while you are at work*, even if you want to. [09:21] I have also had recruiters contact me via my WORK e-mail address [09:22] I just ignore them [09:22] I refuse to talk to recruiters over the phone *ever*, and I bounce email requests unless I am actually being offered a great job opportunity which interests me, which is never. [09:22] Logic is not a strong point of recruiters. [09:22] Precisely [09:23] I have killfiled a couple of people who keep sending me the exact same crap job offer which has absolutely nothing to do with my skill set. [09:23] My unfavourite part is when you tell them you're not interested and they ask if you can give them your friends' contact details so they can spam them too. Um, no. [09:26] OTOH, if you're really desperate for a new job, feel free to talk to them -- even a stopped clock is on time twice a day. ;) Just be aware that they will never lose your number, and neither will their gazillion friends. [09:31] I *still* get calls from recruiters I last interacted with over 5 years ago [09:32] they *never* leave you alone [09:38] indeed [16:32] it's friday :) === kbmonkey_ is now known as kbmonkey [20:32] hi all. can anyone point me to configuring a firewall to allow nfs mounting? :) [20:32] most of the tuts I see online refer to /etc/sysconfig/nfs, which doesnt exist on the pc [20:48] kbmonkey: WAYTTD [20:57] superfly: I want to mount a nfs share on my desktop, hosted on another ubuntu pc [20:57] however I _just_ got it working, after so many tries and googles :) [20:57] kbmonkey: so what does the firewall have to do with it? [20:58] basically, and my heads spinning a bit from this.. [20:59] nfs uses a few select ports, and also some dynamic ones to mount [20:59] and the firewall interferes with this. I just changed nfs service to use a fixed port instead [20:59] and allowed that through the firewall. seems to work okay [21:02] murpheys law: you find the solution just as you ask somebody else :) [21:16] if neither of the two computers is on the internet you don't need a firewall [21:24] both of them are, and the one hosting the share will eventually run a dyndns service [21:24] which I will ssh in from anywhere, so I'd like it to be firewalled :) [21:25] kbmonkey: does it not have 2 interfaces then? [21:26] ideally yes [21:26] * superfly gives up on his ADSL woes for the night, and heads off to bed [21:27] myself, no more work for now [21:29] superfly: Follow tumbleweeds split routing tutorial but remove the split routing stuff [21:33] drubin: thanks, I'll do! [21:35] kbmonkey: That was for superfly [21:36] kbmonkey: I can't help with your firewall issue sorry ;/
