[00:17] Good evening all.... [00:17] Why is it that all I can find is the alternate install .iso of Ubuntu Studio? [00:18] Because that is all that is produced. [00:18] Because there is no live CD. [00:18] It's been a matter of debate for a long time, and may change in the future, but the concern is that the performance of the livecd is always disappointing, because of the nature of livecds. [00:19] got the name of a repsoitory that has lots of audio programs that will run on it? [00:19] repository [00:19] Studio just uses the regular repositories. Lots of audio stuff in them [00:19] nothing specialized eh? [00:20] Well, most of the audio stuff ends up being specialised for Studio, if anyone from Studio works on it, simply because there's no competition from other flavours of Ubuntu. [00:20] * Webster has been hanging out in the windoze world for too long, finally building his first linux only PC [00:20] There's been no need for any specialised repositories (and we hope to keep that the case) [00:22] 10.10 runs very well on my mini-ITX mainboard, 512mb ram 80gb disk [00:23] But I was hoping for lots of programs... looks like I'll have to download em one by one... [00:28] Hello. [00:30] I have a rather ambitious project I am working on that involves VJing. Is there anyone here who has experience with VJing or other types of video editing / streaming? [00:31] Webster, Try installing ubuntustudio-audio and ubuntustudio-audio-plugins to get those we recommend all at once. [00:32] I'll look into that, thanks persia === Nomadicus is now known as Technicus === Technicus is now known as Nomadicus === Nomadicus is now known as Technicus === Technicus is now known as PsyquoQulerHayd === PsyquoQulerHayd is now known as Nomadicus === Nomadicus is now known as PsyquoQulerHayd === PsyquoQulerHayd is now known as Technicus [10:06] hello. since updating kernel yesterday, I can't upgrade linux-backports-modules-alsa and -wireless packages. I need these for alsa and wireless functionality. now it's broken [10:08] it says it relies upon linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.32-28-preempt but it is not installable [10:12] Strayfolk: Which Ubuntu version? [10:13] 10.04 [10:14] AutoStatic: sounds like something that will sort itself out in a while, right? [10:14] yup [10:15] Or aren't package dependency issues always detected? [10:16] Hope so, afaics there are no backports available yet for the latest kernel update for Lucid [10:16] Is this for the -rt kernel, or the generic? [10:16] Or both? [10:17] -preempt [10:18] ok, thanks for you help [10:18] there are no backports packages available for -rt [10:18] Strayfolk: those packages will probably pop up soon [10:18] my internal (digital out) sound is missing and wireless is misbehaving [10:18] ok, that's really nice to hear [10:19] thanks for your PPA, AutoStatic [10:19] btw [10:19] You're welcome [10:19] I love the IR [10:19] I'll soon start contributing to the KX Studio PPA too [10:19] I wish I could get that convert4chan util [10:19] It's not in there? [10:20] no? [10:20] I guess not [10:20] I'll check [10:21] The Debian Multimedia Team has a IR git repo up so I'll sync my IR source package with that one [10:31] Strayfolk: I'll upload an updated version with convert4chan today I hope [10:33] nice!! [10:33] it was a pain to do it manually with sndfile-interleave commands :) [10:48] Ok, working on it :) [11:20] Argh, sometimes I hate Launchpad ;) [11:20] But anyways, I've uploaded ir.lv2 to my PPA [11:21] And it includes the convert4chan utility === peregrinator_six is now known as death_note [13:44] AutoStatic: w00t [13:44] thanks :) [13:48] You're welcome :) [13:51] (thanks for what actaully?) ;) [13:52] -> actually [13:52] AutoStatic: hehe [13:52] ir.lv2 in your PPA [13:53] and your PPA in general [13:53] Ah, oh yes [13:53] I should really start uploading to the KX Studio PPA too... [13:53] But first I want to set up some pbuilder environments on a decent server [13:54] And maybe grant others access to it to test packages [13:54] i wish i had better internet [13:54] id put a server out for you and/or falk [13:54] for that kind of thing [13:54] its the upload thats total crap [13:55] I'll set something up [13:55] On a server at work here [13:55] even better :) [15:30] thanks for the new ir.lv2 with convert4chan [15:30] works like a charm [15:31] Ok cool! [15:31] Strayfolk: what do you do with that? [15:31] exactly [15:34] you convert two stereofiles containing the impulse response from a left source and a right source in to one 4 channel wav file that can be loaded in IR-LV2 [15:34] creating an effect called True Stereo [15:34] even if it's fake :P [15:34] hehe [15:35] Strayfolk: im still trying to sort that out [15:35] which, the IR? [15:35] or the convert4chan [15:35] i know i have a couple of true stereo ones [15:35] yeah [15:35] convert4chan [15:35] cd to the folder of the samples [15:35] and type convert4chan [15:36] Strayfolk: ? [15:36] if you do it @ / it will try to convert all wav samples on your computer [15:36] too easy :) [15:36] you end up with foowav.c or something? [15:36] the util automatically renames x*L.wav and x*R.wav to x4.wav [15:36] AH [15:37] x4 [15:37] sweet [15:37] Strayfolk: that'll do it [15:37] and save me some time googleing around :) [15:37] all you need is stereo samples in pairs, named *L.wav and *R.wav and the util does the rest for you :) [15:37] brilliant [15:37] thanks [15:38] yeah, i know ive got some like that [15:38] from rythyminmind [15:38] they sound great as-is actually [15:38] im sure its just that much better using them properly in stereo [15:39] they do, but the true ones really sound nice... [15:39] I personally think they work best if you have few instruments in your mix, like a piano and a flute or something [15:40] hehe [15:40] i had just that [15:40] piano and flute [15:40] nice [15:40] right after i found this plugin [15:40] sounded great :) [15:42] live flute or fake? [15:42] real deal [15:42] wooden one actually [15:42] neat, you play yourself? [15:42] recorder? [15:43] probably some 30,000 dollar flute or something ;) [15:43] Strayfolk: i play bass [15:43] oh shit, bass recorder? [15:43] but i was just recording them [15:43] ok [15:43] http://www.abellflute.com/ [15:43] one of his flutes [15:43] his wife [15:44] theres a pic [15:44] http://www.katesteinbeck.com/ [15:44] nice looking flutes [15:45] Strayfolk: you might be interested in #opensourcemusicians [15:47] cool, will check it out === frederickjh is now known as frederickjh_away === peregrinator_six is now known as GNOME_III
