DavieySo, looks like kirkland can't be here today as he is at Strata.16:06
DavieySpamapS, Hello!  Fancy talking about SCALE9x ?16:06
ttxkirkland should go to the openstack release party Thursday.16:06
Davieyttx, Ooooo.. i didn't know you had one planned!  I'm sure he'll be happy to know about it.16:07
ttxI think its a free beer thing16:07
SpamapSDaviey: sure.. unfortunately it looks like I will miss most of Sat. and all of Sun, but will be there for Fri.16:07
Davieyttx, /me wonders if it's too late to organise a flight.16:07
hallynDaviey: depends how closely you want to get to know the tsa guards i think16:07
DavieySpamapS, Well - will be interesting to hear what you bring away from it.16:07
ttxDaviey: for you yes. You shoud rather arrive Friday night so that we have a few beers at the FOSDEM beer night16:08
DavieyOkay, James and myself will both be at FOSDEM this weekend... ariving friday evening16:08
zulhallyn: hah tsa was not that bad16:08
SpamapSDaviey: yeah, was hoping to attend all 3 days but travel is conflicting. :-/16:08
ttxDaviey, kirkland: http://www.openstack.org/blog/2011/01/openstack-meetup-and-open-bar-in-california/16:08
DavieyWe'll get a chance to talk to plenty of upstreams including openstack, puppet and some others.  James also mentioned that there will be a java event, which sounds good.16:08
DavieyEqually, plenty of Debian devs will be there - so should be a good chance to meet all of our upstreams.16:09

JFo* Did some research into kerneloops at the end of last week. I have some data from Brian Murray as to some tools he already has that we can make use of. I'm continuing that work this week17:03
JFo* started looking over our documentation on kernel testing. I have some notes and I am retesting a few of the steps. I finally have a natty test machine to work with.17:03
JFo* As part of the changes I have been making to the arsenal scripts, I have been looking at the messages we put into comments on bugs and their applicability to specific architectures. I have some notes here, but I am still finishing up on my documentation before I make those changes.17:03
JFo* I think the apport hooks verbiage item needs to be postponed. There was apparently some work that I had wanted to look at that has already been done. This item was mainly to familiarize myself with the hooks and begin learning how they could be changed.17:03
JFo* The arsenal flow documentation has been taking forever to complete. I didn't get much done on it this week as I had other priorities.17:03

JFoSome of you have probably noticed the massive jump in bugs on our Hot List. This is due to the inclusion of 'kernel-key' tagged bugs as well as all regression-proposed bugs. It is very likely that many of the regression proposed bugs are no longer valid due to those kernels having been shipped.17:11
JFoI have also been getting an inordinate amount17:11
JFoof direct pings or 'drive-bys' on random bugs17:12
JFoI have not meen responding to most of them as they interrupt me when I am in the middle of something, but I am working ot identify important ones.17:12
JFoI'll likely begin asking some of you to take a quick look at a few of those to aid in determining if they are fit for the list.17:13

faganso whats up first?18:05
wendarlooks like we didn't complete the action items on the agenda18:05
faganyeah18:05
wendardefinitely want to carry over the one about the wiki page guide for developers18:05
wendarI don't have any opinion on the other two18:06
faganwell we can go ahead and talk about the first thing18:06
ajmitchdoes anyone have info about the state of quickly & cdbs in natty, or should that be added as something to look at?18:06
wendardidrocks reports that the fixes are ready to go for natty18:06
faganajmitch: I heard the /opt thing was blocked on something though18:07
wendarI don't know if the updated packages are in natty yet18:07
faganive been meaning to ask about that18:07
fagani can do that after this meeting18:07
wendarmaybe add an action item for next meeting to ask didrocks?18:07
ajmitchok, checking up on that was pretty much the last thing for the app I was checking over18:07
faganyeah I can do that18:07
wendarfagan: cool18:07
ajmitchthanks18:07
faganok so ill look into that so18:07
faganis there a command to tell the bot about an action item18:08
ajmitch[ACTION]18:08
faganoh cool18:08
ajmitchI think only you can use it since you started the meeting18:08

MootBotNew Topic:  developer wiki page on creating submissions18:10
wendarI'm one of the responsible parties listed in the agenda, I'll commit to work on it in the next two weeks18:10
faganok so this came up the last meeting if im correct?18:10
wendarcarried over a couple of meetings, yeah18:10
faganI said ill help out on that too since I came from a docs background but ill be more editing since im pretty busy at the moment with college18:11
wendarthat's good18:11
faganso you can take the lead on it wendar18:11
faganill just do little bits here and there18:11
wendarokay18:11
* wendar bumps it from black to red in her todo list18:12
fagananything to talk about on this topic or was it all said at the last meeting18:12
ajmitchI think enough was said at the last meeting18:13
fagancool18:13
* ajmitch read the logs, at least18:13
fagan[ACTION] fagan and wendar to do some wiki pages on creating submissions18:13
MootBotACTION received:  fagan and wendar to do some wiki pages on creating submissions18:13
faganok so the second one is for the list so ill post about that after the meeting18:14
faganand the third thing I forgot about so we should move on to the reviews I think18:14
fagansince we have enough here for the moment to pass an app I think18:14
wendaryes, 3 is quorum18:15
faganok so does anyone have an app ready for review?18:15
* wendar has 218:15
faganoh cool pick one to do first18:16
ajmitchalmost, was just seeing the status of quickly & co before recommending changes18:16
wendarshould we do status on ajmitch's app first in case he has to leave?18:16
stgraberajmitch: as we are pushing to 10.10 and won't have the new quickly/cdbs/... in there, does it really matter ?18:16
fagango ahead ajmitch18:17
ajmitchstgraber: it was more to do with debian/rules generation from quickly18:17
stgraberajmitch: ok18:17
faganany news to share ajmitch ?18:18
ajmitchapart from that & some things to fill in in debian/copyright for the author, the app itself looks to be alright. I've been mostly talking with the author in the askubuntu chat & will paste the transcript into the bug18:18
faganok cool18:18
ajmitchit's also rather simple, 120 lines of python to review18:19
faganwhat is this pytask?18:19
ajmitchsimple-stopwatch18:19
ajmitchstatik was looking at pytask18:20
faganok so do you want to review it today18:20
ajmitchnot without fixing debian/rules to go into /opt - the app itself will already look in the right place for sys.path18:20
faganok so then we should do one of wendar's ones then18:21
ajmitchyep18:21
faganwhich one then?18:21
wendarstart with news18:21

ubottuUbuntu bug 703832 in Ubuntu Application Review Board "Application Review Request: news 0.4.5" [Undecided,In progress]18:22
wendarThis one was new at the last meeting.18:23
wendarThe developer was very responsive, so we got a quick turn around on the changes for this one.18:23
wendarI did code/packaging/security review, with some changes to the code, and more changes to the packaging (especially for /opt).18:23
wendarI recommend it for approval.18:23
faganim just looking down through it18:24
faganill give everyone 2 minutes to have a look18:24
faganok I cant see anything wrong here18:25
fagananything stand out for anyone else?18:25
ajmitchwas just downloading, sorry :)18:25
fagan:)18:25
faganit does ship a lib isnt there something in the guidelines that says thats a problem?18:26
faganoh its part of the project he just split out a part into a lib so its not exactly a problem18:27
wendarit's fine as long as it's in /opt18:27
faganok thats fine on my end18:27
faganajmitch stgraber ok?18:28
stgraberyep, looks good18:28
wendaras a side comment, I note that /opt install required some debian/rules hacks, I'm looking forward to the tools updates in natty18:28
ajmitchremoving the .ex files in debian/ would have been nice, but not necessary18:28
faganok good so vote then18:28

wendarThis is a little app that does image resizing.18:33
wendarThis one was slow, but mostly that's our problem getting the ARB process fixes in place, and the usual Holiday slow down.18:33
wendarI checked in with the developer last week and he applied my final fixes and re-released.18:33
wendarI recommend it for approval.18:34

ajmitchversion number?18:36
fagan2.1.218:36
ajmitchyes, but it doesn't appear to follow the versioning that we want for extras, would this be changed before an upload?18:37
wendarajmitch: yes, I'll have him release a final version with the right version number18:37
faganI think we can do the vote anyway that is pretty trivial18:38
wendarI didn't want to make him take up the "official" version number in his PPA before he was ready to release18:38

sadeqYes, I do most of Internet things , because I have a big Internet at university20:14
sadeqBut we have people in socialization team, "facebook" they do the most!20:15
sadeqhighvoltage > what we did, after a long survey, we estimate what people need here, then added them20:16
highvoltageI've found facebook very popular for Edubuntu, we have more people following it on facebook than on twitter and identica combined. It's horrible for privacy but great for promoting stuff, at least in my experience :)20:16
popeyyeah, and people know how to use it :)20:16
popeyand spread stuff virally :)20:16
popey(in a good way)20:16

czajkowskiI think any medium used to promote Ubuntu is good .20:16
highvoltagesadeq: in South Africa we also have bandwidth issues, at release parties we usually copy entire ubuntu mirrors for people who want them. do you do something similar there?20:16
sadeqI started implementing my idea from CS faculty PC-Pools, going through their servers.20:16
sadeqNow we have biggest IT center in Afghanistan with 100 PCs built on Ubuntu clients and Debian servers.20:17
popeyNice.20:17

czajkowskisadeq: what issues do you encourter besides bandwith ?20:18
sadeqpopey > we do!20:18

popeyI've often thought a USB disk makes a great portable repository :)20:18

czajkowskiok20:20
sadeqpopey > real world!20:20
popeygreat!20:20
popeyare people spread out or quite local?20:20
sadeqpopey> normally quite local, but sometime with friends out of herat , we do by the net or IRC20:21
sadeqcontinue > We became big and made connections with some friends in Kabul, Mazzar and Qandahar cities so we got Afghanistan Ubuntu Loco Team for a more centralized country-wide place for contribution.20:21
popeyYou know, we in the west don't tend to hear 'good news' stories coming out of Afghanistan, so it's quite refreshing to hear that you're doing great work out there.20:22
sadeqpopey> I know what you are hearing, it is quite a battle!20:22
popeysadeq: do you have much opposition from Windows users? Or are people happy to make the switch?20:22
