fisch246i always feel like i'm bothering tony >.<21:32
fisch246he's a nice guy, but i never really know with him21:33
fisch246cause i take our chapter so seriously...21:34
tonyyarussohehe21:48
* tonyyarusso pulls up the question I'm supposed to be answering21:48
tonyyarussoah, right - events21:48
tonyyarussoAbsolutely you should hold some.21:49
tonyyarussoWe have a few from time to time, but not nearly enough.  If you want to organize something, by all means do it!21:49
tonyyarussofisch246: Where in the state are you?  I know some people have been clamoring for something in the SW suburbs of the Cities, and I know Visi's big over there, so perhaps you'd be able to do that?21:50
fisch246i'm in minnetonka according to google >.<21:54
fisch246because my city is too small21:54
fisch246but i'm right off of 721:54
fisch246near 16921:55
fisch246i don't have facilities to host anything21:55
fisch246but if we all pitched in on the money part, i could try and pull something together...21:56
fisch246however i'm not great with dealing with a lot of people...21:56
fisch246so if i have someone who can, i can plan it, and they can deal with the people haha21:56
tonyyarussofisch246: Facilities are ridiculously easy to find - I wouldn't worry about that.21:56
tonyyarussoNor is there any particular expense necessary.  Usually the only thing on that front is pitching in to order pizza or something.21:57
fisch246so what kinds of things would you guys want to do?21:58
fisch246just talk and figure out if people can help with projects?21:58
fisch246cause i'm working on 3 different projects related to linux, and then school21:58
fisch246maybe someone can bring an xbox, and DnD or something haha21:59
fisch246eventually it can turn into something like, we hold seminars, for teaching people about Ubuntu and/or programming22:00
fisch246so teaching about "Systems" and "Programming"22:00
fisch246idk if you guys want to work with community or not22:00
fisch246i mean hanging out and talking about linux is fine with me22:01
fisch246meeting new friends22:02
fisch246being an introvert it's pretty hard to find people who have the same interests...22:02
fisch246and if we end up doing this sort of thing more often, i can fix up a website or use the email list to tell people of events...22:03
fisch246i think website would be better, since people may not want to know about events22:03
tonyyarussofisch246: any and all of the above are good ideas.  TCLUG / Penguins Unbound do monthly seminar / presentation things, which works well.  That's not Ubuntu-specific though - distro-agnostic group that twice a year teams up with us for Ubuntu release parties.22:07
tonyyarussofisch246: also, we have a web site all ready to go - we just need the events to post on it :)22:08
fisch246o ok22:08
fisch246am i allowed posting rights?22:09
tonyyarussoNot yet, but it can be arranged easily.  See if you can apply for an account at http://ubuntu-minnesota.org/user22:09
fisch246i don't see a place to register22:13
fisch246as in...22:13
fisch246i don't have a community account22:13
tonyyarussooh, ha, that's right22:14
tonyyarussofisch246: Do you have a Launchpad account?22:15
fisch246yup22:15
* tonyyarusso tries to remember how this is configured currently22:15
tonyyarussoooooooooh22:16
fisch246test22:28
fisch246hm...22:28
fisch246odd22:28
tonyyarussofisch246: Try refreshing the main page, http://ubuntu-minnesota.org/ - do you see a log in button on the lower left?22:40
fisch246yea i do22:41
fisch246noice!22:41
tonyyarussoclick that :)22:41
fisch246ah i know!22:42
tonyyarussohuzzah, it even assigned you the role properly.  Yay me.22:42
fisch246a natty release party :D22:42
fisch246doesn't have to be on the day of the release btw22:43
tonyyarussoof course22:43
tonyyarussoWe've usually done the weekend immediately after or one after that.22:43
tonyyarussoPenguins Unbound does them on Saturday, usually like 10-4.  h00k did a thing in Superior, WI on a Friday night at a restaurant.22:44
fisch246well i think we should set a date, but not place...22:45
fisch246then get people to register for the event22:45
fisch246get people's information and whereabout...22:45
fisch246then set a place when we know where everyone is coming from22:46
fisch246maybe i can log the RSVB into a table on spreadsheet22:47
fisch246and post it as it gets updated22:47
tonyyarussoNo need - we have Drupal modules for such things if we want to use them.22:48
fisch246drupal?22:49
fisch246btw... what's the difference between edit, and revision?22:50
fisch246o nvm22:50
fisch246i get it22:50
tonyyarussoDrupal's the CMS the site runs on.22:51
fisch246o ok22:52
fisch246o ew... http...22:52
fisch246we should emplace some blogging software...22:52
fisch246o sorry i think it's actually php22:54
fisch246wow i'm tired >.<22:54
fisch246i just called the code http... i was meaning html22:54
tonyyarussouh, it is a form of blogging software - what do you mean?22:56
fisch246i know...22:56
fisch246but it's in php22:56
fisch246instead of a gui system22:57
fisch246mind if i use this as the picture of the event? haha http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ra5vgG72iSk/THFErzWA3LI/AAAAAAAAAKE/NQLssOeqgxQ/s1600/ubuntu_natty_300.jpg22:57
tonyyarusso"gui system"?  You just compared a programming language to an interface category....are you drunk?  ;)22:58
tonyyarussoI don't mind if you use it, but you'll need to check the terms from the author first.22:58
fisch246ha :P22:58
fisch246well that's what i mean...22:59
fisch246instead of having a programming language...22:59
fisch246have a gui system...22:59
fisch246make it easier...22:59
tonyyarusso....23:01
tonyyarussoDude, that doesn't make any sense.23:01
tonyyarusso"GUI systems" are written *in* programming languages - they don't replace them.23:01
fisch246i know >.<23:08
fisch246but for blogging i currently have to type in PHP23:08
fisch246i hate that language...23:08
fisch246i prefer it if someone wrote a gui, so i didn't have to use PHP23:09
fisch246i'm a programmer... i know how this stuff works :P23:09
tonyyarusso...23:09
tonyyarussoThere is absolutely no reason why you would need to write a single line of PHP code to post on this site.23:09
fisch246o... did i press the wrong button then?23:10
fisch246o my god...23:10
fisch246i did...23:10
fisch246XD23:10
tonyyarussowhat did you break...23:12
fisch246nothing don't worry23:12
fisch246i'm not one to mess around with code until something works :P23:12
fisch246have more faith tony :P23:13
fisch246alright anyway....23:13
fisch246do you think it should be a release fest or installfest?23:13
fisch246XD23:13
fisch246release party*23:13
tonyyarussoprobably just a party if you want to start simple - full-blown installfests take a little more preparation.23:14
fisch246is it easy to edit things later?23:15
tonyyarussoyup23:16
fisch246mmk i'm gonna type up something in a text file first...23:21
fisch246cause i have to head out23:21
fisch246:/23:21
fisch246so when i have everything typed out, i'll paste it in23:22
fisch246and feel free to revise it, if it looks confusing and what not23:22
tonyyarussosure23:22
fisch246want my number or email to get a hold of me?23:22
fisch246it will be sent by pm btw23:22
fisch246ah i'll just send it now23:23
