[21:48] hehe [21:48] * tonyyarusso pulls up the question I'm supposed to be answering [21:48] ah, right - events [21:49] Absolutely you should hold some. [21:49] We have a few from time to time, but not nearly enough. If you want to organize something, by all means do it! [21:50] fisch246: Where in the state are you? I know some people have been clamoring for something in the SW suburbs of the Cities, and I know Visi's big over there, so perhaps you'd be able to do that? [21:54] i'm in minnetonka according to google >.< [21:54] because my city is too small [21:54] but i'm right off of 7 [21:55] near 169 [21:55] i don't have facilities to host anything [21:56] but if we all pitched in on the money part, i could try and pull something together... [21:56] however i'm not great with dealing with a lot of people... [21:56] so if i have someone who can, i can plan it, and they can deal with the people haha [21:56] fisch246: Facilities are ridiculously easy to find - I wouldn't worry about that. [21:57] Nor is there any particular expense necessary. Usually the only thing on that front is pitching in to order pizza or something. [21:58] so what kinds of things would you guys want to do? [21:58] just talk and figure out if people can help with projects? [21:58] cause i'm working on 3 different projects related to linux, and then school [21:59] maybe someone can bring an xbox, and DnD or something haha [22:00] eventually it can turn into something like, we hold seminars, for teaching people about Ubuntu and/or programming [22:00] so teaching about "Systems" and "Programming" [22:00] idk if you guys want to work with community or not [22:01] i mean hanging out and talking about linux is fine with me [22:02] meeting new friends [22:02] being an introvert it's pretty hard to find people who have the same interests... [22:03] and if we end up doing this sort of thing more often, i can fix up a website or use the email list to tell people of events... [22:03] i think website would be better, since people may not want to know about events [22:07] fisch246: any and all of the above are good ideas. TCLUG / Penguins Unbound do monthly seminar / presentation things, which works well. That's not Ubuntu-specific though - distro-agnostic group that twice a year teams up with us for Ubuntu release parties. [22:08] fisch246: also, we have a web site all ready to go - we just need the events to post on it :) [22:08] o ok [22:09] am i allowed posting rights? [22:09] Not yet, but it can be arranged easily. See if you can apply for an account at http://ubuntu-minnesota.org/user [22:13] i don't see a place to register [22:13] as in... [22:13] i don't have a community account [22:14] oh, ha, that's right [22:15] fisch246: Do you have a Launchpad account? [22:15] yup [22:15] * tonyyarusso tries to remember how this is configured currently [22:16] ooooooooh [22:28] test [22:28] hm... [22:28] odd [22:40] fisch246: Try refreshing the main page, http://ubuntu-minnesota.org/ - do you see a log in button on the lower left? [22:41] yea i do [22:41] noice! [22:41] click that :) [22:42] ah i know! [22:42] huzzah, it even assigned you the role properly. Yay me. [22:42] a natty release party :D [22:43] doesn't have to be on the day of the release btw [22:43] of course [22:43] We've usually done the weekend immediately after or one after that. [22:44] Penguins Unbound does them on Saturday, usually like 10-4. h00k did a thing in Superior, WI on a Friday night at a restaurant. [22:45] well i think we should set a date, but not place... [22:45] then get people to register for the event [22:45] get people's information and whereabout... [22:46] then set a place when we know where everyone is coming from [22:47] maybe i can log the RSVB into a table on spreadsheet [22:47] and post it as it gets updated [22:48] No need - we have Drupal modules for such things if we want to use them. [22:49] drupal? [22:50] btw... what's the difference between edit, and revision? [22:50] o nvm [22:50] i get it [22:51] Drupal's the CMS the site runs on. [22:52] o ok [22:52] o ew... http... [22:52] we should emplace some blogging software... [22:54] o sorry i think it's actually php [22:54] wow i'm tired >.< [22:54] i just called the code http... i was meaning html [22:56] uh, it is a form of blogging software - what do you mean? [22:56] i know... [22:56] but it's in php [22:57] instead of a gui system [22:57] mind if i use this as the picture of the event? haha http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ra5vgG72iSk/THFErzWA3LI/AAAAAAAAAKE/NQLssOeqgxQ/s1600/ubuntu_natty_300.jpg [22:58] "gui system"? You just compared a programming language to an interface category....are you drunk? ;) [22:58] I don't mind if you use it, but you'll need to check the terms from the author first. [22:58] ha :P [22:59] well that's what i mean... [22:59] instead of having a programming language... [22:59] have a gui system... [22:59] make it easier... [23:01] .... [23:01] Dude, that doesn't make any sense. [23:01] "GUI systems" are written *in* programming languages - they don't replace them. [23:08] i know >.< [23:08] but for blogging i currently have to type in PHP [23:08] i hate that language... [23:09] i prefer it if someone wrote a gui, so i didn't have to use PHP [23:09] i'm a programmer... i know how this stuff works :P [23:09] ... [23:09] There is absolutely no reason why you would need to write a single line of PHP code to post on this site. [23:10] o... did i press the wrong button then? [23:10] o my god... [23:10] i did... [23:10] XD [23:12] what did you break... [23:12] nothing don't worry [23:12] i'm not one to mess around with code until something works :P [23:13] have more faith tony :P [23:13] alright anyway.... [23:13] do you think it should be a release fest or installfest? [23:13] XD [23:13] release party* [23:14] probably just a party if you want to start simple - full-blown installfests take a little more preparation. [23:15] is it easy to edit things later? [23:16] yup [23:21] mmk i'm gonna type up something in a text file first... [23:21] cause i have to head out [23:21] :/ [23:22] so when i have everything typed out, i'll paste it in [23:22] and feel free to revise it, if it looks confusing and what not [23:22] sure [23:22] want my number or email to get a hold of me? [23:22] it will be sent by pm btw [23:23] ah i'll just send it now
