[00:00] tgm4883: You sir, ROCK! Thanks very much, that did the trick :) [00:07] tgm4883: Thanks again..... [15:30] hi, again a new mythbuntu install...... New try on a different machine. Im installing from the mythbuntu livecd, but want to upgrade to 0.24 immediately, how should i do that? [15:33] !auto-builds [15:33] Sorry I don't know about auto-builds [15:33] !autobuilds [15:33] Auto builds contain more recent bug fixes than the normal Ubuntu repository contains. See http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds for more info. [15:33] stanman246: ^ [15:36] mrand1 [15:37] mrand1, O_o ... had everything running at last, then had a power failure which blew up my other pc...... [15:37] gotta hate that [15:38] kinda [15:38] but now i've got me a celeron D 2,66 with 2gb's and a 250g sata ;-) [15:39] some stupid workguy here decided he's drill a hole in an electric wire.... [15:39] *he'd [15:39] think i'll get me a upc... [15:39] *ups [15:45] righto, so it's booted into mythbuntu. 1st thing is running the backend setup right? [15:46] or first apt-get update / upgrade? [15:50] stanman246: no reason not to update/upgrade first [15:53] ok. [15:54] how do i upgrade to 0.24.1? [15:55] there is no 0.24.1 (yet). Just 0.24.0=fixes [15:55] oh, i thought i had 0.24.1 running... [15:56] ah well... what's the best way to get to 0.24+fixes then? [15:56] !autobuilds | stanman246 [15:56] stanman246: Auto builds contain more recent bug fixes than the normal Ubuntu repository contains. See http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds for more info. [15:56] and: if i'd run ubuntu-desktop would that slow down the machine? [15:57] A celeron D is not the most powerful CPU... so perhaps. [15:58] iaght, so xfce would be more wise [15:58] i just need to do some desktop things on that machine, for the rest it will be serving other mythbuntu frontends, so the celeron D would be enough i think? [16:04] stanman246: well, you already have it, so might as well give it a try. I have a lower-end core2 duo that does that same functionality without any trouble at all. a single core would probably be maxed out though. [16:06] Not to mention that generation runs quite hot (meaning more electricity, as well as a bigger heatsink and possibly louder fan[s]) [16:11] we'll see what happens. For now i'm updating/upgrading ubuntu [16:12] then i'm planning to install 0.24 with the autobuilds [16:13] are you planning to do high def video? [16:14] no not yet [16:14] i've got an analogue tv card (cinergy 400) with which i want to test [16:15] and i'll be serving media to frontends, no hd capturing yet [16:15] would be nice though, but i need additional hardware for that [16:15] ohhhhh, just a backend only? You have a good chance that this will be powerful enough then. [16:16] yeah, i thought so. First getting this box working (incl. frontend, so i know it all works) then the frontend machines all around the house [16:16] !zotac [16:16] Sorry I don't know about zotac [16:17] if i'd kick in some hd hardware to save the digital streams of my provider, do i need much expensive additional gear? [16:18] capturing HD isn't the hard part... it's really just saving it to the drive (unless you want to transcode it to save space or change formats). [16:18] but to save it, there doesn't have to be any encoding right? [16:19] so a 'light' machine could do just that? (i thought / hoped) [16:20] correct. capture devices all do the encoding (if necessary. QAM and ATSC are both already encoded, so those types of capture devices have even less work to do). [16:23] ah well i'll handle that when it comes to that. First i need to get it working with my 0.24+ frontend again. [16:23] For now i must leave it in this stage, need to go now... [16:24] thanks 4 all the info mrand and maybe 'till later [16:24] you're welcome. have fun! [19:13] hi everyone [19:14] I'm a newcomer and am trying to run from the live cd. It starts without problem but then looks for a backend for some reason. I'm not running a backend and therefore canot start the frontend. Can anyone help? [19:16] I've also tried installing it within windows and although it does appear in the boot manager if I select it it fails to locad with some errors which I don't understand [19:17] !help [19:17] !help For a complete list of my knowledge visit: http://www.baablogic.net/Zinn.cgi Other available commands: !status, !about, !bug [bug_number]. [19:17] qwebirc51846, The live cd only works for the frontend..You must have a backend to connect... [19:18] oh [19:19] I don't get any frontend as I've said and I've also tried to install with problems [19:20] after installing it within windows, I do get the choice of either windows or myth [19:20] well I never have tried to install it on a windows machine,so I would be no help there.. [19:20] but selecting myth gives errors [19:20] ok tks [19:20] Do you have capture cards? [19:20] yes [19:21] I'm running W7 MCE [19:21] which is gr8 [19:21] but wanted to try myth [19:21] What cards [19:21] ?? [19:21] Hauppage [19:21] PVR 500 [19:21] should work.. [19:22] Did you go the=roug the set up [19:22] through [19:22] lol [19:22] cannot get that far [19:22] fat fingers [19:22] all i get is a desktop [19:22] which asks to connect to a backend [19:22] the installed version fails to start as described above [19:23] Have you used linux before? [19:23] very little [19:23] My suggestion would be to bring up a terminal window and type in mythtv-setup and see what happens... [19:24] got to run good luck,,, [19:24] cheers [19:24] don't like the fact that despite installing myth and seeing it in the boot menu it gives an error when loading [23:36] Hello, is there a way to get myth to use my swap file? I re- partitioned, and it no longer uses swap becauser it is now sda5 instead of sda6 [23:46] pcluser: fix the uuid in your /etc/fstab [23:50] rhpot1991, can i get it to use it without rebooting? also, I am weak on how to correct the uuid stuff, will look now.. thanks [23:59] pcluser: edit it and you should just need to replace the old uuid with the new one [23:59] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingUUID [23:59] [help.ubuntu.com] UsingUUID - Community Ubuntu Documentation
