eglandonanyone here have experience with samba and connecting to shared folders on a windows 7 computer11:01
eglandonI could really use some help on this as i have been working on this for a week now in my spare time and havnt come to a conclusion11:03
eglandonlook all i need is to be pointed in the right direction im running 9.04 it came with samba, i can see my windows 7 computer but when i click on it, it keeps asking me for authentication and wont let me access the shared files on my windows computer. i am working with a fresh install other than the fact that i have trying creating a samba user which appears successful but i still cant access my files11:09
technologov_AFAIK: Windows 7 has user-level samba shares11:11
technologov_which means you *must* have a user on Windows 7 + password11:11
technologov_to be able to access it11:11
technologov_eglandon: 1. check firewall11:11
technologov_eglandon: 2. create password for your windows 7 user11:12
eglandonpassword and login for both computers and samba account is the same11:12

b2agmoldaz: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Feisty_No-Fluff13:17
b2agthis describes using windows drivers via ndiswrapper13:18
b2agmoldaz: also look at this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx13:21
b2agmoldaz: you sould first look at the url last mentioned13:21
BluesKajmoldaz, from my experience the bcm43xx chip shpuld run fine on the default maverick driver even after a kernel update , it does on my laptop, ndiswrapper shouldn't be necessary13:26
b2agBluesKaj: you have a BCM4312 to?13:27
b2ago13:27
BluesKajb2ag, yes and I'm running kubuntu maverick with the right settings in the networkmanager, I had to use wicd on karmic , the devs fixed the prob in maverick13:35
b2agBluesKaj: so you are the expert, but moldaz is just gone :(13:37
BluesKajb2ag, I'm not an expert , it's what I experienced with the broadcom chip , that's all13:38
b2agstill makes me sick to see some network devices not running out of the box in linux13:38
BluesKajit runs out of the box if you set it up correctly13:39
b2agso you know exactly what he wannted to knew. makes you kind of an expert for that issue13:40
BluesKajb2ag, one has to set up the network manager with the router settings in mind , whta kind of security and pw etc13:43
cordonniertroubles with keyboard layout changing / kubuntu 10.1013:43
BluesKajb2ag, so my point is referring someone to an out dated tutorial for a install that isn't relavent doesn't help13:46
b2agok, but i have intel wlan and no idea for wich version of the chip the driver is working. i assumed it is not working. i'm not a fan of ndiswrapper, but i know it works quite well. i also pointed at the newer version and said he should read this first.13:49

deepz0newell, my english isnt that good and im relatively new to linux / kubuntu... well, i installed kubunto 10.10 and activated the nvidia driver. after that kubuntu doesnt start automatically, i have to login and type "startx" to get it to load17:24

deepz0nethis only happens if use the nvidia drivers, after a fresh install it boots normally until i install the drivers17:39

DarthFrogWolf_22:  A server can be either a machine or the  program offering services.  You have confused the two.  The Xserver is a program running *on your local machine* which provides the graphical services.  An xclient is a program, running locally or remotely, requesting X services.  You are running an xclient (kate) remotely on the web server (the httpd program on that machine) which is requesting X services on your local machine.  Since20:20

pedahzurHave a weird problem here. KDE 4.6 on Kubuntu 10.10. My user can log in just fine via KDM, but another user gets the "red field." Using the same password, I can su to that user at the prompt, but that user cannot log in via KDM. I had this problem with KDE 4.5 as well, but it went away (until now) when I upgraded to 4.6. Ideas?21:26
