LaranKrieseI cannot autoinstall Samsung's unified print driver????03:37
seidoshumanitylos: the only thing i can think of right now is to do an md5 checksum on the iso image, and compare it with the checksum in the md5 file on the releases.ubuntu.com server03:37
seidosLaranKriese: why not?03:38
humanitylosdid that..03:38
seidoshumanitylos: what iso?03:38
humanitylosubuntu-10.10-desktop-i38603:38
LaranKrieseit's supposed to be a simple double click (according to samsung)03:38
humanitylosstriaght from the ubuntu website03:39
seidoshumanitylos: try ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386 if that works, please come back so we can get a bug filed03:39
seidoshumanitylos: you can get it @ http://release.ubuntu.com03:39
seidoscorrection03:39
seidoshttp://releases.ubuntu.com03:39
humanitylosOk.. will do.03:39
humanitylosthanx.03:39
seidosgood luck03:39
LaranKrieseI went back to 10.04 since 10.10 would not give me a readable iso03:40
seidoshumanitylos: thank me if it works, if not, come back and we'll see what we can do03:40
humanitylosok03:40
seidosLaranKriese: what hardware do you have?03:40
seidosLaranKriese: perhaps you and humanitylos are using similar hardware?03:40
LaranKrieseamd 64,03:41
seidosLaranKriese: let me see if there is a bug already filed against your samsung printer.  what is the model #?03:41
LaranKrieseml-166503:42
UndiFineDLaranKriese: are you family of zkriesse ?03:42
LaranKriesenot that I know03:42
LaranKrieseI would like to do a terminal install of this driver but need to be walked through it.  Samsung only gives information to allow graphical installation and that has failed.  The autoinstaller will not run...03:44
LaranKrieseI've upgraded to various ubuntu hoping this would help....03:44
seidosLaranKriese: i could try running it here.  there isn't a bug in launchpad.  the samsung driver may not be open source, and if that's the case, there really isn't anything an developer can do :|03:46
seidoslaunchpad = bug tracking system03:46
LaranKrieseit's not open source but I was hoping someone could help....03:46
seidosLaranKriese: i will try running the file here.03:47
LaranKrieseand I'm not quite a noob but am getting no help or assistance from anyone (at ubuntu or Samsung)03:47

seidosLaranKriese: where did you download the samsung driver?03:51
LaranKriesehttp://downloadcenter.samsung.com03:52
seidosLaranKriese: can you give me a link to the file you are using?  i am downloading a file, but i want to make sure it is the same file03:52
LaranKriesethis is the manual:  Http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201011/20101129112453066/EN/User_Guide_en/english/start_here.htm03:53
seidosLaranKriese: that is the user guide.  not the driver.03:55
LaranKrieseyeah I know, looking for the driver page....03:56
LaranKriesehttp://www.samsung.com/ca/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP00&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=ML-1665/XAA&prd_mdl_name=ML-1665&srchword=ML-166503:56
seidosLaranKriese: you did download the file, correct?  what is the name of the file you downloaded?03:58
LaranKriese/home/laran/Downloads/UnifiedLinuxDriver_0.86.tar.gz03:58
LaranKrieseI also downloaded the smart panel:              /home/laran/Downloads/Smartpanel_0.86.tar.gz03:59
LaranKrieseI have extracted the unified linux driver and went into cdroot to double click on autoinstall and I get the panel asking to run in terminal, run, etc04:01
LaranKrieseI've tried to run it, run it in terminal and nothing.....04:01
seidosLaranKriese: what was the extension of the file you downloaded?04:03
LaranKriese0.86 I guess....04:03
seidosLaranKriese: the file i downloaded has the extension .tar.gz04:04
LaranKriesesorry... terms.  yes it's .tar.gz04:05
seidosLaranKriese: perhaps you should tell me the steps you took after downloading the file04:06
seidosLaranKriese: specifically, did you extract the file using tar -xvvf filename?04:07
bioterrorLaranKriese, http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/04:07
bioterrorseidos, tar zxvf04:07
bioterrorz goes for the gunzip04:07
LaranKrieseno, I did it according to samsung in graphical mode (need to read the instructions I followed)04:08
seidosbioterror: -xvvf worked for me.04:08
gunndawgAny good web development tools for ubuntu ?04:09
seidosLaranKriese: when you tried in graphic mode, what happened?04:10
LaranKriesebioterror: thanks for the page -bookmarked it04:10
bioterrorLaranKriese, http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341621 loooots of conversation04:10
LaranKrieseseidos: I will try -xvvf first04:10
seidosgunndawg: php and django comes to mind04:10
gunndawgseidos: php is a programming language, I am more after development tools04:11
seidosLaranKriese: i was able to run sudo ./autorun and i'm looking at a graphical installer now04:11
seidosgunndawg: then not sure what you mean by "development tools".  gimp?  :)04:12
gunndawgseidos: gimp is a graphics editor, not a web development tool, sigh04:13
seidosit has a little dude that is...er. is this installer for real?04:13
seidosLaranKriese: are you serious?04:13
LaranKrieseokay so I need to tar -xvvf04:13
seidosgunndawg: are you literal?04:13
LaranKrieseseidos: not sure what yer looking at since I am not in terminal nor in autoinstall.  yer ahead of me....04:13
gunndawgseidos: well when you recommend a programming language and a graphics editor for "web development tools" then I have to be literal04:14
seidosgunndawg: not really04:14
gunndawgseidos: what does gimp have to do with web developing ?04:14
seidosgunndawg: building graphics for your pages04:15
gunndawgseidos: I dont use graphics for webdesign, I use css, so its not a web development tool, its a graphics editor04:15
seidosgunndawg: ah, so you're looking for something like dreamweaver or something?04:16
seidosgunndawg: what tool do you use with css?04:16
gunndawgseidos: I dont use a tool, css is a syntax04:17
gunndawgseidos: I am after web development IDE's04:17
seidosgunndawg: only IDE i'm aware of is geany04:17
seidosgunndawg:  not sure it would meet your definition for "wdt"04:17
seidosany ideas on why my web server isn't parsing php5 files?04:38
seidosi followed the instructions here:  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP?action=show&redirect=LAMP#Troubleshooting PHP 504:38
seidosi got it working on my notebook without a problem...but on my server, no luck right now04:38
seidosthe server is a 10.04 system04:39

ubot2LAMP is an acronym for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP. However, the term is often used for setups using alternative but different software, such as Perl or Python instead of PHP, and Postgres instead of MySQL. For help with setting up LAMP on Ubuntu, see  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP - See also the Server CD installation process (different in Edgy+)06:20

Puck`if you search through google .. it searches the web, not just help.ubuntu.com (:07:31

Puck`it's not Google's fault that Ubuntu based queries don't favour ubuntu official website, people don't click on it07:31

meatcagewhy would /usr/bin/pitivi still be in /usr/bin/pitivi after reformatting / and reinstalling?19:25
MrMintanet01Hello.  I am having a problem with "sudo apt-get update".  When I try to update my repositories, I get the error (without beginning/end quotes):  "W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick-updates/multiverse/binary-powerpc/Packages.gz  404  Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]"20:36
UndiFineDacarpine: I believe the ubuntu community does its very best to provide binary save packages, it is the reason repositories are signed with a gpg key, just as users use a gpg  key on launchpad to sign the CoC20:43
pleia2actually in this case http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick-updates/multiverse/binary-powerpc/ really doesn't exist (just amd64 and i386)20:45
pleia2I don't think one has existed for several releases in that location, ppc is a separate port these days20:46
