RcartHello. I'm reading the bug 716782 and wanna assign the package to it. The output looks like belongs to dpkg. If someone knows similar ouputs I'd like to confirm me if I'm wrong. Or should I request the reporter for more information and set the bug as incomplete?00:56
ubot4Launchpad bug 716782 in ubuntu "Can't install anything (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/71678200:56
charlie-tcaRcart: to really know what is happening, we need some log files. /var/log/dpkg.log and /var/log/dmesg would be good to start with01:04
charlie-tcaThe reporter can try the procedure listed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingInstallationIssues#Corrupted%20package%20archive to attempt to clear things.01:04
persiaWe have enough01:04
charlie-tcaHowever, we don't really know what is broken with out the logs and what was installed to break the system.01:05
persialook at the description starting from "Errors were encountered"01:05
persiaWhat we don't have is any package named "avgflx", which is the package with the problem.01:05
persiaErr, avg85flx01:05
persiaThe specific error is that avg85flx.postinst is failing to check for an existing link in /etc/init.d/avgd before creating it (and should probably be transitioned to use dh_installinit anyway).01:06
persiaBut since this package isn't in our repos (unless I'm missing something), it's outside of our control.01:07
chilicuilI'd request to install another package, it doesn't seem to be a dpkg error to me01:07
persiaChange to a support question: suggest the user disable third-party repositories and try to upgrade again.01:08
persiaIf that doesn't work, remove avg85flx, and try again.01:08
charlie-tcaagreed01:08
persiaOh, just in case it wasn't obvious from the above: libboost-iostreams is an innocent victim here.01:11
charlie-tcathanks for that one. I wondered about it01:11
persiaWhen dpkg can't install stuff, it leaves the DB in a half-configured state, and then tries to complete it when anything happens.01:12
persia(hoping that whatever you just did will fix the problem)01:12
charlie-tcayup, and one broken package leads to a lot of errors, sometimes01:12
persiaSo, when the avg85flx upgrade failed, it retries it for every dpkg operation.  Since it keeps failing...01:12
* charlie-tca hopes someday to know at least half of persia's knowledge01:13
persiaI'm certain you have more knowledge than I, although I suspect it's not spread quite so thin01:14
RcartOk. Thanks for explanation.  I'll change it right away.01:15
charlie-tcaRcart: thanks for helping with that bug01:15
persiaRcart, Good luck.  Now that it's a support ticket, try to help the user out.  If simple removal doesn't work, they may have to purge the avg85flx package.01:15
RcartSure, i'll keep tracking the bug and trying to help the user. Thank you for helping.01:21

penalvchRegarding https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/579966 this is caused by the same bug title soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in cppu::throwException() I have a libreoffice-calc ppa crash log that demo's this problem. There are ~8 dups (older & newer) same problem. Seems we should group them all to one metabug?16:13

trinikronowhere to file bugs about ubuntu website?20:13
charlie-tcatrinikrono: canonical-isd-web20:17
trinikronocharlie-tca: i just found a project named ubuntu-website in launchpad20:19
trinikronoits a invalid torrent link20:19
charlie-tcaThe ones I reported the ubuntu-website were changed to canonical-isd-web20:20
trinikronoo.o20:20
charlie-tcabut, I think either one is fine.20:22
trinikronocharlie-tca: well it looks like it wont let me set it too confirmed under ubuntu-website20:23
charlie-tcayou can't confirm it.20:23
charlie-tcaYou can only report it, there is a separate team that can triage those bugs.20:23
charlie-tcaYou can comment that you have the same bug, too20:24
trinikronowell its there now so one less bug to worry about, bug 710302 btw20:24
ubot4Launchpad bug 710302 in ubuntu (and 1 other project) "Invalid torrent-link to 10.04.1 Netbook Edition (affects: 1) (heat: 8)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/71030220:24
trinikronoi was just doing the 5 a day and was look at no package bugs20:24
charlie-tcayeah, it can go against ubuntu-website, but the website team has to confirm them20:25
trinikronocharlie-tca: should i close the bug against the ubuntu package itself?20:25
trinikronoand just leave the ubuntu-website one20:25
charlie-tcalooking20:25
charlie-tcayup20:26
trinikronoi would like to do that and remove all those tags20:26
charlie-tcajust mark it invalid20:26
charlie-tcaand comment why20:26
trinikronoroger20:26
charlie-tcayeah, people just add tags. Removing them is usually fine, too20:26
trinikronowhere would someone set a wishlist item against apt-add-repository ?21:29
trinikronoits bug 71643821:29
bdmurraydpkg -S apt-add-repository21:29
ubot4Launchpad bug 716438 in ubuntu "add-apt-repository should have option to use port 80 (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/71643821:29
bdmurraythat'll tell you21:29
trinikronothanks bdmurray21:32
trinikronoalso should this be set as wishlist?21:37
bdmurraytrinikrono: I'm not sure about wishlist.  hggdh?21:51
trinikronobug 716438 for reference :D21:51
ubot4Launchpad bug 716438 in software-properties (Ubuntu) "add-apt-repository should have option to use port 80 (affects: 1) (heat: 8)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/71643821:51
hggdhlooking21:51
bdmurraywell this is interesting21:53
bdmurrayapt-get changelog python-software-properties21:53
hggdhbdmurray: it makes sense -- when you are under a corporate firewall, they usually allow 80 and 443, but not unknown ports21:53
bdmurrayhggdh: right so I was thinking more than wishlist21:53
hggdhbdmurray: oh -- bug? Yeah, I bite21:54
hggdhthis changelog is cool indeed21:55
bdmurrayso the first entry seems to indicate it is likely fixed21:55
bdmurrayand mentions bug 61578821:55
ubot4Launchpad bug 615788 in ubuntu-website (and 2 other projects) "gpg should use port 443 by default in order to work from behind firewalls (affects: 4) (heat: 15)" [Undecided,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/61578821:55
bdmurraywell I guess it is only for ppas21:57
hggdhsounds like it, yes21:57
trinikronois apt-get changelog  a command?21:58
hggdhand I really do not see why it should default to 44321:58
hggdhtrinikrono: yes, an option for apt-get21:58
bdmurraythat might be new in natty though21:59
bdmurrayaptitude changelog does the same thing I'm pretty sure21:59
hggdhperhaps open a task for the other releases -- lucid sounds a candidate21:59
hggdh?21:59
hggdhthe OP might have added the UBuntu version :-(22:01
trinikronoaptitude changelog works for me22:01
trinikrononot apt-get changelog22:02
yofelapt-get changelog was added to natty as we don't ship changelogs in the packages anymore22:02
yofelor not the full ones..22:02
bdmurrayI'm not sure the fix, port 80 for ppas, fixes all 3 of those bugs as described though22:02
trinikronookie22:02
hggdhbut it is worth to add a reference to 61578822:05
trinikronowell thanks guys im off now22:07
lamalexhey guys I have a question about triaged vs confirmed22:48
lamalexi dont really understand when to use one or the other22:48
lamalexis triaged really just an intermediate "this bug is in the right place" status?22:48
lamalexto get them out of the NEW queue?22:49
yofeltriaged: but is confirmed and has enough information for a developer to fix it - confirmed: other people have the same issue, but nobody checked if there's enough info on the bug yet22:50
yofelsee https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status22:50
lamalexah nice22:50
lamalexthanks yofel22:50
