InHisNameWould you rather I wish you an abysmal morning ?14:16
JonathanDandrew: have a terrible morning kind sir.14:18
ChinnoDog"great! morning'" sounds like a Cracker Barrel breakfast special14:21
ChinnoDogs/morning/mornin14:21
andrewInHisName JonathanD: No, I just think it would be better expressed as "great morning!"14:25
JonathanDLets go to cracker barrel.14:36
andreweh14:37
InHisNameI've had enough crackers this weekend,  I'm ready for Whole Foods market.14:47
MutantTurkeyD: forgot to start ssh daemon before i left my house. shucks.15:04
ChinnoDogYou start yours manually?15:04
MutantTurkeyI disabled it because it was hanging with a conf problem.15:05
MutantTurkeyfixed it then forgot to add it back to my daemons array.15:06

ChinnoDoglol. "we almost got sued"15:34
MutantTurkeyhaha15:34
deejoearch, eh?15:39
MutantTurkeyArch eh? :D15:39
MutantTurkeyI don't use ubuntu, i just hang out here because i like to bother ChinnoDog15:40
deejoeno worries, I was just noticing that the term "daemon array" seems to be peculiar to Arch15:40
MutantTurkeyyeah.15:40
MutantTurkeyI think we stole it from BSD's init system.15:41
MutantTurkeybasically you just define them DAEMONS=("udev" "ssh" "lighttpd") etc and then our init scripts just run each part of the array (those are names of files in our /etc/rc.d)15:42
MutantTurkeymuch the simplest way to go about things15:43
ChinnoDogthe Arch wiki has a lot of incredibly useful information, just like the Gentoo wiki. It must be an incredible PITA to mantain though.15:48
ChinnoDogMeaning, running Arch is a PITA to mantain15:48
MutantTurkeyPITA?15:48
MutantTurkeyah15:48
MutantTurkeynot at all.15:48
MutantTurkeyI have not yet had to reinstall archlinux, since i switch like 2-3 years ago.15:48
ChinnoDogPennBot: PITA is pain in the toosh15:49
PennBotOkay, ChinnoDog.15:49
MutantTurkeyarch is rolling release, never had any problems with xorg or anything15:49
ChinnoDogHow much work to bring up a new system?15:49
MutantTurkeyand i run their [testing] branch15:49
MutantTurkeynot so much15:49
MutantTurkeyinstall is fairly simple, almost like debians15:49
MutantTurkeywith a whole dialog boxes and all15:49
MutantTurkeythen after that its mostly just pacman -S xorg dbus gnome etc.15:49
MutantTurkey_D: cruddy internets16:33
MutantTurkey_y u no work.16:33
oz120hello19:41
JonathanDhi.19:41
ChinnoDoghi oz12019:41
oz120i was wondering if this is where i could find some local help19:42
JonathanDAre you in PA?19:42
oz120somerset county19:42
JonathanDprobably then.19:43
oz120i was wondering what distros you are all using if you dont mind me asking19:44
oz120i have been experimenting with alot of differnt ones and now my system has crashed so its time for a updated distro19:44
JonathanDI mostly use debian and ubuntu.19:45
JonathanDI used to use cent19:45
oz120i have xubuntu 7.04 and suse 10.1 i was using ubuntu 8.04 but i cant find my live cd and the only computer have have with a burner is the one i need the cds for19:47
oz120so i seem to be in a real pickel19:47
oz120lol19:47
ChinnoDogis xubuntu 7.04 on liveCD?19:49
ChinnoDogIf you can boot to xubuntu 7.04 CD you can use it to download and burn ISO for new verison.19:49
oz120no only gives me option of texxt based install19:50
oz120my only live cd was the ubuntu8.x19:50
oz120and now i cant find that cd19:50
oz120i am attempting to install suse 10.1 right now but it keeps having my ignor things that just a weekago i didnt have to ignor during install19:51
andrewAre you able to use a USB drive to boot your computer?19:52
oz120no19:53
oz120i am atempting the suse10.1 install agian now but it tells me something like 10 hours to finish19:54
ChinnoDogSo if I understand correctly the computer you are on now does not have a burner, and the other computer does not have software to operate the burner. Does your internet work when you do the text mode install? That should be sufficient to download and burn a new CD.19:55
oz120no when in the text mod installer it wount see the onboard NIC19:56
oz120with xubuntu19:56
oz120only way that pc can see the NIC is with the suse 10.119:56
oz120i am once agian attempting that suse 10.1 install19:58
ChinnoDogk. If you have the tools in suse to d/l and burn the CD that is fine too.19:58
oz120the biggist thing that i dont understand is one time i install everything goes fine in about 2 hours but the next time it says there are errors and i need to ignore all kinds of packets to continue install19:59
ChinnoDogCould be flaky CD drive or bad memory19:59
ChinnoDog(among others)20:00
ChinnoDogIf you can get the new CD it has memtest86 on it in the boot menu20:00
ChinnoDogintermittent problems like that can also be a power supply issue20:00
oz120like right now its running fine says 3:49:10 for time20:00
oz120i just changed PS last one burned up20:00
oz120and changed both sticks of ram20:01
bigfabdaddyhello20:03
bigfabdaddyoz120,20:03
oz120mybad that my phone got a mind of its own since i started messing with the android  code20:04
oz120lol20:04
ChinnoDogAs long as it doesn't start calling 900 numbers or ordering upgrades for itself with your credit card you are probably fine.20:06
ChinnoDogThat would give new meaning to "phone sex".20:06
oz120yeah20:06
deejoethat would be the whole Internet of Things intersecting with Rule 3420:07
ChinnoDogRule 34?20:07
oz120i was hoping to start playing with the voice commands or figure out a way to load a low grade GUI onto it and still keep the phone portion working20:08
