cjohnstonnow01:34
mhall119cjohnston: edge mirror?03:03
mhall119oh, merge03:03
mhall119which one is it?03:03
nigelbmhall119: did you get time to look at the other merge for summit?03:47
YoBoYgood morning06:52
cjohnstonYoBoY: we are going to push an LD update soon... can you get your friends to do a bunch of translations so they get pushed07:09
cjohnstonAnyone else around?07:09
YoBoYcjohnston: I can, they already worked hard since the last release07:09
cjohnstonGood...07:09
YoBoYthey need to review the strings, how many time they have ?07:10
cjohnstonYoBoY: I don't know.. Probably a few days07:11
cjohnstonI just pushed the lastest version of the translations, so they should be available in a few mintes07:11
cjohnstonDue to being on vacation I couldn't tell you how long till I'll be able to get a release ready07:12
cjohnstonand then how long till the sysadmins can push it07:12
dholbachgood morning07:21
YoBoYcjohnston: message sent to the translators :)07:21
YoBoYbonjour dholbach 07:21
cjohnstonthanks YoBoY 07:22
dholbachsalut YoBoY - comment ça va, mon ami?07:22
cjohnstonmorning dholbach 07:22
dholbachhey cjohnston07:22
YoBoYdholbach: très bien, et toi ?07:22
cjohnstontrying to get a release ready07:22
dholbachYoBoY, mag ni fique!07:22
dholbachcjohnston, good work07:22
cjohnstonUp at 2 am on vacation in New York city doing it too.. lol07:23
YoBoYgreat :D07:24
cjohnstondholbach: can you help me a little with how to handle https://code.launchpad.net/~ronnie.vd.c/loco-directory/reapproval_translate/+merge/49542  - I know that putting html in a translation is bad, but I don't know if there is a way to do something better by looking at the bug07:25
cjohnstonother than rewording the text07:25
dholbachI don't know - how else did we solve this in the LD?07:26
cjohnstonwe havent yet that im aware of07:27
cjohnstonbut we do have a couple of these issues07:27
dholbachI think somewhere else we do - check the 'about' page07:28
cjohnston{% trans "The LoCo Team Directory is made available under the <a href='http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0-standalone.html'>GNU GPL v3</a> and the Code is available in <a href='https://code.launchpad.net/loco-directory'>Launchpad Code Hosting</a>." %}07:29
cjohnstonso it looks like there we are making translators responsible for the html07:29
cjohnston?07:29
dholbachlooks like it07:30
dholbachwhen dpm gets up you might want to ask him07:30
cjohnstonok07:30
cjohnstondpm: just the man that dholbach told me to bug07:36
cjohnstonhehe07:36
cjohnstonSelling out dholbach..07:37
cjohnstondpm: Could you give us advise of how to handle: https://code.launchpad.net/~ronnie.vd.c/loco-directory/reapproval_translate/+merge/4954207:37
dpmhey cjohnston, let me see if I can help...07:38
cjohnstonThe way that we currently have the code, it seems translators are having trouble... The way proposed in that merge requires translators to properly copy the html <a>07:38
cjohnstonIs there some sort of better way to do this?07:38
dpmjust a sec, reading the bug...07:39
cjohnstonyup07:39
dpmcjohnston, hm tricky. I can see the problem (it does not only affect French but many other languages), but I'm not sure his proposal is the best thing to handle this, as then translators would have to translate things like <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoGettingApproved">, which is an error-prone translation. Is it not possible to have such thing as {% trans "blah blah {0} blah blah".format("<a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoGettingApproved"07:46
dpm>") %} in django templates?07:46
dpmI'm guessing it might not be possible, but I hope you get the picture of what I'm trying to say07:47
cjohnstondholbach: ^07:48
cjohnstondholbach would better know than I would dpm.07:48
dholbachno idea07:48
dholbachI'm sorry07:48
YoBoY(complicated french bugs :p)07:49
cjohnstonmhall119: when you come back.. (I don't have time to look into it today) do you know anything about ^^07:49
cjohnstondpm: any other thoughts by chance?07:50
dpmcjohnston, I'm not an expert in django templates, so I'm not sure what you can and what you can't do there (i.e. how much python code you can use). If the above works, I'd go for that, and if not, I'd approve the merge proposal, as whichever option that avoids splitting sentences will be an improvement (with the caveat that <a> parts will be part of translations now, and thus error-prone)07:52
cjohnstonok07:53
cjohnstonthanks07:53
dpmno worries :)07:53
cjohnstondholbach: what do you think about adding something like google analytics or something to watch usage statistics?08:19
dholbachcjohnston, maybe have a chat with IS about it?08:19
cjohnstonokie08:19
cjohnstontime to head back to airport08:43
cjohnstonuggh10:18
cjohnstontheres currently one seat on this flight10:18
cjohnstonlooks like we are splitting up10:19
YoBoY:]10:24
czajkowskicjohnston: on a flight yet?10:33
cjohnstonno10:33
cjohnstonfirst flight is at 705...10:33

dholbachmhall119, great work13:42
dholbachsorry for messing this up13:42
* mhall119 sees that cjohnston left a going-away present of a flood of bug emails13:42
mhall119dholbach: that's the thing, it shouldn't have ever worked, but I remember testing it when you implemented it13:43
dholbachwe changed something somewhere in the meantime13:43
dholbachsomething to do with the messages13:43
mhall119anyway, I'm going to prep a normal release of LD sometime today13:43
dholbachgood work13:43
mhall119dholbach: I have a feeling we made a change to make it easier on translators, but didn't test it properly13:43
dholbachyes, I guess that's what happened :(/13:44
mhall119next UDS, I'm going to bring up writing unit tests for these projects13:44
* mhall119 should start with ubuntu-django-foundations13:45

=== Nafallo_ is now known as Nafallo
mhall119Ronnie: pong15:22
Ronniemhall119: i was just thinking about the workflow of LD15:22
mhall119workflow?15:22
Ronniei think its too much focussed on 'all teams' than on the 'users team'15:23
Ronnieyes, for example: il lgo from my team page to the list of events, click the one event on that list. Then i click in the subnav on 'back to event list'. Then ill end up on the global event list15:24
Ronniei also notice its very hard to go to your own team page. There are links sometimes whic hrefer to your team, but nowhere in the global menus. I think the team page should be more central15:25
mhall119Ronnie: okay, come up with some ideas on how to improve that15:33
mhall119remember that some people have more than one team15:33
mhall119some people aren't a member of any team15:33
Ronnieyes, both are tricky15:33
mhall119but if you can find a solutiono that works for all of them, then I'd be happy to include it15:34
Ronnieif you have no team, the current behaviour is OK15:34
Ronniei think if you view the details of the event of team X, the link "back to list of events" should return to teams/X/events15:34
mhall119but what if you get to the event of team X by clicking the link from the main /events/ page?15:36
mhall119then 'go back to list of event" taking you to a single team wouldn't make selse15:36
mhall119remember also that an event can technically have more than one team associated with it (even though we don't make that available in the interface yet)15:36
Ronniemhall119: idea. The first link in the sub-nav should be the one of your team. If your not a part of a team its not there. If your part of multiple teams, it should name "my teams"  and show a dropdown when clicking on it, with all your teams15:45
mhall119Ronnie: instead of a drop-down (which would be different from every other sub-nav), how about just taking you to a page that lists only your teams, like we do when you select Add Event or Add Meeting and you're on more than one team15:48
mhall119otherwise I like the idea15:49
Ronniemhall119:  taking you to a page where to choose your team, is less user firendly i guess15:50
Ronniefriendly15:50
YoBoYI agree, their is a real mess in the sub nav, it's always changing, it's really hard to follow a simple path/workflow15:52
Ronniemhall119: another usability issue is, the links to external pages (like LP) look the same as internal15:53
YoBoY(and i'm only on one team ^^")15:53
Ronniethe whole subnav is indeed changing too much and inconsistent15:53
Ronniei think the 'action' urls should be in the page itself, and the different 'view' urls should be in the sub-nav15:54
YoBoYtime to make some sketchup :)15:54
Ronniei already got an plain A4 paper to take some notes, draw lines etc15:55
mhall119Ronnie: create a blueprint and a wiki page to put all of this on15:58
Ronniei will15:58
Ronniefor the external links, i create a bug report15:58
mhall119are you thinking of putting a small graphic after external links, like wikipedia does?16:00
Ronniemaybe, or making the link aubergine?16:01
mhall119abergine is supposed to mean it's corporate/canonical related16:01
Ronnieyes, but communities may use it in very small amounts16:05
mhall119true, I'm just concerned that it would cause confusion16:06
Ronnietrue16:07
mhall119adding a small graphic for exteral links is used all over the web, and is pretty clear what it means16:07
=== JanC_ is now known as JanC
YoBoYthis link question is just a css feature, I don't know if it's already used but we can start to add a class to these external links16:27
Ronniethe google maps feature for LD is ready to be tested: https://code.launchpad.net/~ronnie.vd.c/loco-directory/570613/+merge/5019417:23
YoBoYRonnie: without testing I can tell you should be more "l10n" friendly  when I see « language=en&region=US » ^^"17:35
RonnieYoboy, i have to admit that i dont know what that parameter actutally does. the names of the country and cities are all native17:41
YoBoYthe language is for the display of the map17:44
YoBoYthe region is for a default position17:45
RonnieYoBoY: changed, thx17:54
YoBoYthis is working ?17:55
Ronniei did not tested translated strings, but with the modifications needed, the en/US is still working17:55
YoBoY:p17:56
Ronniemhall119: do you have an example of a loco-team which has subteams in the owner team?19:47
Ronniei cant find any informations for the command .participants, only "participants_collection_link" which says: " All participants of this team. List of all direct and indirect people and teams who, one way or  another, are a part of this team. If you want a method to check if a  given person is a member of a team, you should probably look at  IPerson.inTeam().  "19:48
YoBoYa team owned by an other team composed of subteams ?19:49
RonnieYoBoY: yes19:49
YoBoYnot mine :D 19:49
Ronniei used -fr as testing unit ;)19:50
Ronnieits far most complicated structure of teams i know19:50
YoBoYwe are not so complicated :) the owner team don"t have subteams19:50
YoBoYtry the italian ^^19:50
Ronniehaving a team as owner is already complicated19:51
YoBoYit's complicated but it's a good choice19:51
Ronnieeven -it has no subteams of team owners19:51
YoBoYyes19:52
YoBoYit's really an rare use case19:52
RonnieYoBoY: any more complicated teams?19:52
YoBoYlet me think ...19:53
Ronniemhall119: https://code.launchpad.net/~ronnie.vd.c/loco-directory/714718_team_owner_team/+merge/4912120:01
Ronnieparticipants is fully recursive20:01
YoBoYhum can't find one, all the teams tested who have an owner team, have only real members on these owner teams20:02
YoBoYbut I'm rassured, french is not so unique on that point ;)20:03
RonnieYoBoY: i asked lp-devs for the participants command. seems its fully recursive, so problem solved20:04
YoBoYok20:04
mhall119Ronnie: awesome20:05
mhall119btw, your maps branch ROCKS!20:05
mhall119Ronnie: I also added your maps to the main /events/ page20:06
Ronnieyea, the maps is awesome20:06
Ronnievery easy to implement20:06
mhall119I'm loving it20:07
Ronniei like jquery plugin techniques20:07
Ronniemhall119: is there any bug/blueprint that needs to be fixed before the next LD-release. I think the ical link (meetings+events) has priority and maybe the usability bluerpint. what do you think?20:15
mhall119Ronnie: anything thats broken functionality let's try and get fixed20:59
mhall119anything that's new functionality or modifications to working functionality can wait for the next release20:59
Ronniemhall119: Currently the forms are a bit cluttered/not aligned. for another project i use this http://img411.imageshack.us/i/schermafdrukp.png/ (colors are all ubuntu-orange, each row has the same width, the question marks are round. But im not sure about the aligning of the text. What do you think22:03
cjohnstonI like it22:04
mhall119I like it too23:35
