silverlightninghi10:36
silverlightningI have lubuntu installed, and I am wondering what kind of gnome applications are on the system?10:39
silverlightningI noticed gnome media player, but desktop environment are something else I think10:39
wolfpacksilverlightning: Desktop environment is LXDE10:40
silverlightningand there's really no need to worry about gnome extra packages for this and that?10:41
silverlightningI am only thinking of the gnome media player really10:41
silverlightningI read that it sort of works together with VLC which I downloaded10:42
silverlightningis there a way to check that all drivers and restriced extra are downloaded?10:43
silverlightningwhen I play a bought DVD in VLC there is no sound10:46
silverlightningit plays fine, everything seem all right except sound10:46
silverlightningin gonme player I get this message Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory10:48
silverlightninggnome plays the film/DVD, but the message keeps popping up?10:49
silverlightningany idea what it might be?10:49
bioterrorsure10:50
wolfpackThis is easily fixed. The issue is caused by Gnome Mplayer attempting to use the default VDPAU, which does not exists. To remove the message, launch Gnome Mplayer, select Edit->Preference. Enter xv into the video output and press close. This tells it to use xv instead of the default vdpau.10:50
bioterrorvdpau is a library that makes the player use your GPU for decoding of the media10:50
bioterrorso you dont have to use your CPU for decoding a 1080p movie10:50
silverlightningI see10:51
silverlightningand it is the recommended option ?10:51

silverlightningthanks10:53
silverlightningweird, now gnome player  is frozen10:54
silverlightningwith a strange sound in my computer too10:55
silverlightningshoot, it really is stuck10:56
bioterrorwhat did you learn yesterday?10:57
wolfpacksilverlightning: It works fine for me10:57
silverlightningGnome player is gone, but there is a halt in the system10:57
silverlightningI ran killall10:57
bioterrorgood10:57
bioterrorand then you also ran top10:57
silverlightningbut there is this persistant bz-bz-bz sound like stuck10:58
silverlightningI have to restart10:58
bioterrorare you using windows? :D10:58
silverlightningI took the DVD out10:58
silverlightninglubuntu10:58
silverlightningno windows on the harddrive10:58
bioterrorwhat's the urge for restart then? :D10:58
silverlightningthe weird sound10:59
bioterrorwhy not first try to find if there's something hanging in the processes and try to get rid of it10:59
bioterrorif it happens again, you can examine it a little more10:59
silverlightningis there a command in terminal that shows processes?11:00
bioterrormany :D11:00
bioterrorps aux |less11:00

silverlightningdid the setting in Gnome player affect VLC in way, no sound?11:09
silverlightningreboot helped with the hangup11:09
silverlightningthere's  no sound in adobe flash player either, streaming youtube videos11:12
silverlightningI need a sound plugin on driver11:12
silverlightninghmm11:12
silverlightninglubuntu is very good at managing the cooling fan11:13
bioterrorthat's becouse of cpufreq has been set on "ondemand"11:13

bioterrorhmmm11:17
bioterrormy crescents lock is okay11:17
silverlightningno, I cannot find anything for VLC sound11:17
silverlightningis it key or code?11:17
bioterrorkey11:17
silverlightningmine is key too11:17
bioterroras I keep it outside11:17
silverlightningI need to oil it more perhaps, but I did two weeks ago or so11:18
bioterroras I have not ride my "real bikes" on winter conditions, I cannot say how the Kryptonice u-locks will handle11:18
silverlightningit is the shifting rain frost rain frost that makes it freeze I think11:18
silverlightningbikes can be trouble in winter, frozen gears, ice in the wires...11:19
bioterroryeah, gears11:19
bioterrorthose derailers are frozen on my "winterbike"11:19
bioterrorbut I prefer fixies, so no problems with gears :D11:20
bioterrorone os per computer, and one gear on bikes11:20
bioterrorone thing for certain tasks11:20
silverlightningsingle speed11:20
bioterroryes11:20
silverlightningI like the old gear hubs, if the wires are oiled and water free, they shift no matter what11:20
silverlightningthe new 7 and 8 do not however11:21

silverlightningmessed up last night11:31
silverlightningadded to much gruff from package manager11:31
silverlightninghad to take off a lot of packages and then reinstall others11:32
silverlightningI made the browsers crash instantly when they hit a page with flash player stuff11:33
silverlightningI though I was clever playing around with java based plugins and extras but it was a mistake11:33
silverlightningmaybe I shall use default settings in gone, anything else might affect vlc11:35
bioterrorare you using firefox or chromium or what11:35
silverlightningI have both,11:35
silverlightningbut firefox now11:35
silverlightningI need a brake from this computer mess11:37
silverlightningsee you later perhaps11:37
silverlightningso no install of puppy ?11:38
bioterror?11:38
bioterrorwhat about puppy?11:38
silverlightningI was thinking of installing puppy as dual boot11:38
silverlightningbut lubuntu seems to run very nicely, at least when I get everything running11:39
silverlightningpuppy are suppose to be super light distro11:39
silverlightningI have to live with lubuntu for a few weeks as only distro, no windows11:40
bioterrorthat will make you stronger11:41
bioterrorusing GNU/Linux is just a state of mind11:41

silverlightningI didn't know11:53
* NRWlion runs a search on synaptic11:53
bioterrorin a fact, I have not repaired any Sun Microsystem server's since Oracle purchased Sun11:53
bioterrorso I have also some anger against Oracle11:53
silverlightningso no libre office in package manager11:53
bioterrorsilverlightning, that's coming11:53
bioterroryou have to use PPA11:54

NRWlioni think i will stay with OO until i found out how to create own shortcuts in the menu11:58
NRWlion^^11:58
NRWlionbut i will keep that one in mind11:58
JoeMaverickSettNRWlion: just replace the Exec of OO.desktop files in /usr/share/applications to libreoffice ;)11:59
silverlightningnothing happened in terminal11:59
NRWlionsorry cant follow11:59
NRWlion:(11:59
NRWlionand will have to get back to my project to be done by the end of the day :(12:00
silverlightningthe guys here are linux top league12:00
JoeMaverickSettNRWlion: well, the shorcuts made in the menus are kept int /usr/share/applications in form of .desktop files.12:00
silverlightningI am sort of pre school lol12:00
JoeMaverickSettNRWlion: if you open them up there is a line Exec (the command to open a program)12:00

silverlightningmajor hassle12:03
NRWlionthat is why i am not going to try what JoeMaverickSett just mentioned :D12:03
