dpmgood morning all!!!08:06
gtriderxchi08:07
dpmhey gtriderxc08:07
andrejzHello dpm!09:10
andrejzI have a question for you09:10
andrejzi noticed a translation error in the installer09:10
andrejzin the progress bar09:10
andrejzthe problem is i cannot find that translation09:10
dpmhey andrejz09:10
dpmit might be that the template in Launchpad is not up to date or that the string is not marked for translation. In both cases it'd be a bug in the installer. What string is it?09:11
dpm(I haven't been checking the installer for a while)09:11
andrejzi am not sure, because i only saw slovenian string09:11
andrejzbut it's something like09:12
andrejzremove files from conflicting opreating syssem09:12
andrejzremoving files from conflicting operating system09:12
dpmoh, I see, you mean the string is translatable but you cannot find the original msgid in LP09:12
andrejzyes09:12
dpmso in which templates have you searched already?09:12
andrejzit's also possible it's been changed in launchpad already but not reflected in the installer09:13
andrejzdebian-installer09:13
andrejzubiquity-debcof09:13
andrejzand bootloade09:13
andrejzbootloader09:13
dpmok, you can try try aptdaemon as well, often strings in the installer come from there too09:14
andrejzok thanks09:14
dpmor python-apt09:14
dpmif you don't find it there, we'll just have to investigate more :)09:14
andrejzok,i found the string09:16
dpmah, cool, where was it?09:16
andrejzit's been fixed on 07th of september 201009:16
andrejzin debian instgaller09:17
andrejzbut it's been fixed09:17
andrejzthat's why i haven't found it at that point09:17
andrejznow my question is how is it possible the string was incorrect in 10.10 final if it was translated at the right time09:17
andrejzi guess these strings need to be specially exported09:18
dpmyeah09:18
andrejzis it possible to check if it was exported and when09:18
dpmin d-i it's also best to send fixes upstream to make sure they appear in Ubuntu too, as the process to export and merge the translations in the Ubuntu package is quite complex from the packaging side. You can have a look at the changelogs for debian installer, or look at the code to see when translations were exported. Let me see if I can help you in that09:19
andrejzok need to reboot will be back in a minute ...09:27
andrejzi am back09:32
dpmok, so I'm asking cjwatson, the d-i maintainer in the meantime, but I think in short the answer is that d-i is a translation that needs special handling and fixes are better exported to upstream so they can flow back to Ubuntu09:35
dpmThe difficult part here is simply that in Ubuntu there is a single debian-installer template, whereas in upstream it is split into several templates09:36
andrejzok thanks09:36
dpmperhaps this helps as a pointer on how to do this:09:36

gtriderxccan I use <br> or &nbsp; i Launchpad? will it stay visible?10:26
gtriderxci think it may depend on situation. in present case i mean ubiquity slideshow eg This version brings some exciting changes including a totally redesigned desktop interface10:27
dpmgtriderxc, I think Launchpad will just pass through what you write to the PO files. How <br> and &nbsp; are interpreted will be dependent on ubiquity-slideshow10:31
gtriderxcin Polish it really looks terrible when a single letter is left at the end of the line. we have quite many single letters10:32

gtriderxcTRANSLATORS: A format string for the strftime function for12:40
gtriderxca clock showing 12-hour time without seconds.12:40
gtriderxcno idea what's all about12:41
gtriderxcleave it as it is?12:41
dpmgtriderxc, you can modify that string according to the strftime syntax to adapt it to the needs of your language. Here are the parameters that you can use and their meanings:13:10

dpmno worries :-)13:17

gtriderxcI found a problem in a new software center17:11
gtriderxclong decriptions fall into ratings17:12
gtriderxcI'd like to report a bug but there are some soft center and soft store now17:12
gtriderxcwhen i want to report a bug in a soft center I can't17:13
gtriderxcthere is an information that a store has to be configured17:14
gtriderxcdon't quite get it now. should i report a bug into soft store?17:14
gtriderxcor shorten my translations17:15
gtriderxcwhich won't be easy cause noone is able to find which is too long in soft center17:15
dpmgtriderxc, so if you are comfortable with using the command line, I think the easiest thing to do is to open up a terminal and type 'ubuntu-bug software-center'. This should file a bug against the right package in Launchpad17:17
dpmdoes that answer your question?17:18
gtriderxcok17:18
gtriderxccause it looks like that:17:18

dpmyeah, looks like a genuine bug17:20
gtriderxcok thank You 4 help17:21
dpmno worries, let me know if the bug reporting worked with the instructions above17:21
gtriderxcit does work. thanks17:35
