[18:57] hi [18:58] I was thinking of something... can I have a menu for different sessions when I boot up [18:59] for instance: 1) run gnome session --- 2) run cli session with program A --- 3) run cli session with program B ? [19:18] * kristian-aalborg thinks aloud... this could be done in bash + dialog, hurm...? [19:42] kristian-aalborg, you already have something like that on GDM -- you can select to run Gnome, or an X term, etc [19:46] hggdh: gdm is too heavy [19:47] kristian-aalborg, there is XFCE, for example (Xubuntu), and other WMs as options [19:47] I was thinking something as light as possible [19:48] there's a thing called quingy, I think... that might fit the job [19:48] ah - SLIM will be fine, I think [19:48] also that one is rather easy to work with [20:50] anyone know a good tool to defragment and partition an external drive? [20:51] KinkyPinkie: use a livecd with gparted on it for partitioning and fsck is a good file system checking tool. [20:51] gparted doesn't seem to recognise my drive [20:52] KinkyPinkie: maybe its dead? [20:52] nono [20:52] in a terminal [20:52] sudo fdisk -l [20:52] KinkyPinkie: have you used gparted before? [20:52] theres a drop down in the upper right [20:52] yes [20:52] where you choose the drive* [20:53] i'll just try some more googling. thanks anyway :) [20:53] well, i would think google will say gparted [20:54] what do you get when you run sudo fdisk -l? [20:54] do you see the drive? [21:04] well, one must specify the disk on fdisk: 'fdisk /dev/sda' [21:05] i was going for more of a list of what is mountable [21:06] even on -l; also you will need root [21:07] sudo fdisk -l ?? [21:07] for me that just lists what the computer can see [21:07] what would be mountable if its not mounted [21:07] yea well i'm giving up on the defrag thing anyway, don't want to risc it with some home-made tool :P better boot to w7 (shoot me) [21:08] i dont know why gparted is not doing that though.. [21:08] and maybe things will work out after the restart [21:08] lol [21:08] home-made tool ;) [21:08] :P [21:08] do what makes you feel safe :) [21:47] hi holstein [21:47] would anybody have a .nanorc file that's good for prose? === JackyAlcine is now known as NattyJacky === NattyJacky is now known as NattyAlcine [22:37] Anyone know how I can track down the cause input hanging (both keyboard and mouse lag badly) that occurs locally on the machine and even when SSH'd into the machine [22:37] Hi all, I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 with vmplayer on windows xp.
