BentFranklinTrying to run rsync over ssh.  How do I tell rsync the non-standard port the remote is using for ssh?03:56
BentFranklinthe docs say --port is for the daemon style of connection03:57
BentFranklinAstually it says "specify double-colon alternate port number" and elsewhere it says :: is for the daemon.04:01
chxBentFranklin: did you try to *gasp* google that question?04:02
chxBentFranklin: http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=rsync+ssh+port&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-804:02

chxBentFranklin: see, this is the power of google you probably heard so much about. It's amazing! use it.04:03

DragnslcrAnyone know if there's a way in KDE 4.6 to have the task manager ordering go back to ordering items "vertically" instead of "horizontally"? It's kind of annoying to have them move around every time a new window opens13:14
Peace-Dragnslcr: mmm13:21
Peace-Dragnslcr: you meand this ?http://wstaw.org/m/2011/03/20/plasma-desktopHG4002.jpg13:22
DragnslcrI assume it's an upstream change, I just figured I'd ask here first in case anyone else was annoyed by the change and had found a way to change it back13:22
DragnslcrNope, not Force Row Settings13:23
Peace-mm13:24
Peace-Dragnslcr: stuff like that is on that window if there is ok otherwise..13:24
DragnslcrIn 4.5, if you open 4 windows (and have two rows like I do), the order would be A above B in the left column, and C above D in the right column13:24
DragnslcrIn 4.6, you get A and B in the top row, and B and C in the bottom row13:25
DragnslcrI mean C and D in the bottom row13:25
Peace-oh understood13:26

Daskreechwell Gnome2 I can't speak at all for   any of the new shells15:04
Daskreechsebhaase: Alt+ctrl+F1 ?15:05
DaskreechI've forgotten if that's possible in Vbox15:05
sebhaasei'm still during booting - somewhat.15:07
Solakis there a way in 10.10 to save the desktop from the commandline?15:10
SolakI can't use logout...15:11
Daskreechsebhaase: Somewhat?15:17
DaskreechSolak: What's wrong?15:17
sebhaaseit did not get me to the log in window yet, the x screen show kde logo and "the 5 blinken dots" the text screen says "battery checking   [OK]" .15:19
SolakDaskreech: after upgrade from 10.04LTS to 10.10, I noticed that the desktop-effects were stopped by a process, not sure which one (message that I could use shift-alt-F12 to resume). At logout some text appeared and the process stopped, ^C etc. didn't work, shutdown -r now from console did (of course). After the reboot, the buttons for logout, restart, etc. didn't work and in the logs appeared messages related to drm and fb.15:20
Solaksebhaase: that's the text...15:21
Daskreechsebhaase: can you try press ctrl+Z ?15:21
sebhaasedoes't do anything.15:21
sebhaaselike Ctrl-\15:21
SolakDaskreech: I would prefer a compact solution, instead of reverting to backups or reinstalling another version.15:21
sebhaaseand Ctrl-C15:21
Solaksebhaase: with ctrl-alt-f1 you get a console login.15:22
Solaksebhaase: looks like you have the same problem...15:22
sebhaasethanks.15:22
sebhaasei did not realize that the text i saw was apparently part of x.15:23
sebhaasei thought it was a text console.15:24
DaskreechSolak: is it just a KDE issue?15:24
Solaksebhaase: from the commandline you can do things like 'sudo restart kdm', then alt-ctrl-f8 (f7 still contains the previous, locked, x screen).15:24
SolakDaskreech: I'm not sure :( what I see in the bug-text it has something to do with a buggy x-org-server for intel gfx cards.15:24
sebhaasei get: restart unknown instanbce.15:25
sebhaaseinstance.15:25
SolakDaskreech: I have an Radeon X800Pro.15:26
Solak-n15:26
sebhaasetop show plymouthd using 7% CPU.15:34
sebhaasewhat is that ?15:34
Daskreechsebhaase: good question.15:35
sebhaasei hope nothing related to VBoxService15:36
Daskreechsebhaase: I doubt it. It is probably the daemon for Plymouth15:36
sebhaasewhat is plymouth ?15:37
SolakDaskreech: I don't think I can solve the problem, but I'm wondering how I can put together packages that solve it, or find a way to save the desktop one time.15:37
DaskreechSolak: that shouldn't stop you from logging out15:37
DaskreechSolak: the kde sessin manager I would suspect15:37
SolakDaskreech: 'sudo restart kdm' works, but it doesn't save the session afaik.15:38
DaskreechSolak: it wouldn't15:38
Solakif I revert back to 10.04 LTS, sound is broken again. If I stay with 10.10 I have a broken desktop (unless I can revert to older versions of drivers)15:39
DaskreechSolak: I don't think that video card drivers should stop you from logging out15:40
DaskreechSolak: I'm going to be on and off here you may wnat to ask in #kde for logging out help15:40
SolakDaskreech: the drm/fb errors in the log suggest that there is a relation between the video card drivers and the logout.15:42
SolakDaskreech: each time I clicked on the logout button such an error appeared in the log.15:43
SolakDaskreech: thanks.15:44
DaskreechSolak: I could be wrong then :-D15:45
sebhaasehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_(software)15:45
sebhaaseit's the kubuntu logo i'm seeing ... ;-)15:45
Daskreechsebhaase: yes I Don't know why it needs a daemon15:45
sebhaasewhen i kill that it get's completely unresponsive and i have to press "RESET".15:50
Daskreechsebhaase: do you have a failsafe option ?15:51
sebhaasei just tried that -- it also hangs....15:53
DaskreechSolak: try ksmserver15:53
Daskreechsebhaase: Oh dear. Boot from a live CD?15:53
sebhaasemaybe i should uninstall the virtualbox extensions.15:54
erinaceusHi, i was wondering if anyone could point me into the direction of a useful xml tutorial for KDM greeter themes.15:54
erinaceusThe one on docs.kde is not very useful imho15:54
SolakDaskreech: ah, it has a -r option to load a session and it is currently running (maybe even to manipulate so it saves the session).15:55
DaskreechSolak: correct15:55
SolakDaskreech: hmm, is a dbus command again...15:58
Solakif I could figure out what exactly happens when I click on the logout button, I can try to avoid the step that messes up the logout process.16:01
Daskreecherinaceus: umm.. not sure. #kde-devel ?16:01
erinaceusThanks, I'll see what i can find there16:02
sebhaasedeinstalling the vbox guest additions did not make any difference.16:28
sebhaaseso maybe it's a realy kubuntu issue then ... ;-(16:28
Daskreechsebhaase: maybe. can you boot a live CD?16:30
sebhaasedon't have one, right now.16:30
sebhaasebut i DO get in.16:30
Solakok, session was saved. but as soon as kdm restarts, the functionality of the logout-buttons is gone.16:30
sebhaasei just don;t get any X.16:31
Daskreechsebhaase: oh you have a cli?16:31
sebhaaseyes.16:31
sebhaaseCtrl-F1 worked.16:31
Solakand another odd thing is the bouncing cursor at restart, it leaves a trail.16:31
Daskreechsebhaase: ah well then read /var/log/dmesg then16:31
sebhaaseAlt-F116:31
sebhaaselast messages are about AppAmor.16:33

BCMMwhat's the difference between kubuntu and kubuntu netbook?16:41
BCMM(apart from the plasma shell being in netbook mode by default)16:41
DaskreechBCMM: Apart from that?16:42
james147BCMM: there is no kubuntu netbook edition anymore, its been rolled into the standard desktop edition16:42
BCMMi mean, is that the only difference16:42
BCMMah, ok16:42

DaskreechSolak: Well it will remove things that rely on akonadi16:44
SolakDaskreech: and many apps do...16:44
DaskreechNot that many I think16:45
Solakincluding plasma-desktop.16:45

naftilos76hi everyone, i am experiencing low responsiveness in dolphin. It wasn't like that! I am on Kubuntu 10.10 with KDE updated to latest 4.6.1. The thing about dolphin started after i did a clean install with kubuntu's 10.10 iso (burned into a CD) up to now! It is weird. I never had this issue before. By indicating "Low  responsiveness" i refer to a abnormal time needed for dolphin to respond to mouse moving over dirs, clicking on a dir to see17:30
naftilos76its' contents also takes 3-4 secs instead of <1sec it used to! Can you suggest anything?17:30
sourcemakerareichman: I restarted akonadi and have checked my configurations... still does not work17:31
naftilos76akonadi is something that will keep us on the edge. there is always something wrong with it...17:33
Macernaftilos76: all dirs ? do you have any network mounts?17:34
naftilos76i do but not when i try to determine whether dolphin is having a problem. That is, only local fs exists and still dolphin is slow...17:36
areichmansourcemaker: this is really weird. While playing with akonadi and kontact, X crashed on me17:37
areichmanI think I have to take a pass on this one. I have no idea what's wrong, I'm seeing the same behaivor as you17:38
sourcemakerareichman: thanks for you help... I just tried evolution... same this here...17:38
areichmanvery weird. I would try sending an email to the pim people. They might be able to help17:39
