[15:36] i hope nothing related to VBoxService [15:36] sebhaase: I doubt it. It is probably the daemon for Plymouth [15:37] what is plymouth ? [15:37] Daskreech: I don't think I can solve the problem, but I'm wondering how I can put together packages that solve it, or find a way to save the desktop one time. [15:37] Solak: that shouldn't stop you from logging out [15:37] Solak: the kde sessin manager I would suspect [15:38] Daskreech: 'sudo restart kdm' works, but it doesn't save the session afaik. [15:38] Solak: it wouldn't [15:39] if I revert back to 10.04 LTS, sound is broken again. If I stay with 10.10 I have a broken desktop (unless I can revert to older versions of drivers) [15:40] Solak: I don't think that video card drivers should stop you from logging out [15:40] Solak: I'm going to be on and off here you may wnat to ask in #kde for logging out help [15:42] Daskreech: the drm/fb errors in the log suggest that there is a relation between the video card drivers and the logout. [15:43] Daskreech: each time I clicked on the logout button such an error appeared in the log. [15:44] Daskreech: thanks. [15:45] Solak: I could be wrong then :-D [15:45] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_(software) [15:45] it's the kubuntu logo i'm seeing ... ;-) [15:45] sebhaase: yes I Don't know why it needs a daemon [15:50] when i kill that it get's completely unresponsive and i have to press "RESET". [15:51] sebhaase: do you have a failsafe option ? [15:53] i just tried that -- it also hangs.... [15:53] Solak: try ksmserver [15:53] sebhaase: Oh dear. Boot from a live CD? [15:54] maybe i should uninstall the virtualbox extensions. [15:54] Hi, i was wondering if anyone could point me into the direction of a useful xml tutorial for KDM greeter themes. [15:54] The one on docs.kde is not very useful imho [15:55] Daskreech: ah, it has a -r option to load a session and it is currently running (maybe even to manipulate so it saves the session). [15:55] Solak: correct [15:58] Daskreech: hmm, is a dbus command again... [16:01] if I could figure out what exactly happens when I click on the logout button, I can try to avoid the step that messes up the logout process. [16:01] erinaceus: umm.. not sure. #kde-devel ? [16:02] Thanks, I'll see what i can find there [16:28] deinstalling the vbox guest additions did not make any difference. [16:28] so maybe it's a realy kubuntu issue then ... ;-( [16:30] sebhaase: maybe. can you boot a live CD? [16:30] don't have one, right now. [16:30] but i DO get in. [16:30] ok, session was saved. but as soon as kdm restarts, the functionality of the logout-buttons is gone. [16:31] i just don;t get any X. [16:31] sebhaase: oh you have a cli? [16:31] yes. [16:31] Ctrl-F1 worked. [16:31] and another odd thing is the bouncing cursor at restart, it leaves a trail. [16:31] sebhaase: ah well then read /var/log/dmesg then [16:31] Alt-F1 [16:33] last messages are about AppAmor. [16:33] don't know what that is.... [16:34] ata3: EH complete [16:35] re-mounted. ... [16:41] (apart from the plasma shell being in netbook mode by default) [16:42] BCMM: Apart from that? [16:42] BCMM: there is no kubuntu netbook edition anymore, its been rolled into the standard desktop edition [16:42] i mean, is that the only difference [16:42] ah, ok [16:42] BCMM: No [16:42] hmm, it seems a bit complicated to get rid of akonadi... [16:42] it also has a longer name [16:42] Daskreech: heh [16:43] Solak: how so? [16:43] thanks [16:43] hi sheytan [16:43] Daskreech: when I deactivate it, it always returns and when I simulate a remove it wants to remove almost everything in kde... [16:44] Solak: Well it will remove things that rely on akonadi [16:44] Daskreech: and many apps do... [16:45] Not that many I think [16:45] including plasma-desktop. [16:46] Daskreech: well, it seems like the desktop won't function anymore with akonadi gone :) [16:46] haiiii [16:46] Solak: Whoops :) [16:46] s0phia: hi! [17:25] hang on, let me install it and see if it happens for me, too [17:25] thanks man [17:30] hi everyone, i am experiencing low responsiveness in dolphin. It wasn't like that! I am on Kubuntu 10.10 with KDE updated to latest 4.6.1. The thing about dolphin started after i did a clean install with kubuntu's 10.10 iso (burned into a CD) up to now! It is weird. I never had this issue before. By indicating "Low responsiveness" i refer to a abnormal time needed for dolphin to respond to mouse moving over dirs, clicking on a dir to see [17:30] its' contents also takes 3-4 secs instead of <1sec it used to! Can you suggest anything? [17:31] areichman: I restarted akonadi and have checked my configurations... still does not work [17:33] akonadi is something that will keep us on the edge. there is always something wrong with it... [17:34] naftilos76: all dirs ? do you have any network mounts? [17:36] i do but not when i try to determine whether dolphin is having a problem. That is, only local fs exists and still dolphin is slow... [17:37] sourcemaker: this is really weird. While playing with akonadi and kontact, X crashed on me [17:38] I think I have to take a pass on this one. I have no idea what's wrong, I'm seeing the same behaivor as you [17:38] areichman: thanks for you help... I just tried evolution... same this here... [17:39] very weird. I would try sending an email to the pim people. They might be able to help === ubuntu_ is now known as legodude [17:42] hi, my ubuntu 10.10 splash screen changed to kubuntu 10.10, did i do something?
