[05:44] I can get my bluetooth to pair and connect but how do I get the sound to play through it to my bluetooth headset? [06:10] goodafternoon [06:23] Good afternoon [06:23] In ubuntu, after pairing, a new hardware output choice shows up in sound preferences, but in xubuntu, this new hardware never shows up as a sound output choice. [07:23] hi xubuntians [09:19] zruty: install pavucontrol [09:19] Is there a way to completely remove pulse without the installer trying to force you to remove everything else? [09:20] it should remove just couple of dependencies [09:21] what you're using, synaptic? [09:21] Yeah [09:21] try sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio [11:14] hello? [11:14] !hi [11:14] Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. [12:32] no, i tried searching for it in synaptic, it says it's not there [12:34] it loads everything in youtube but the vid [12:35] anything else i can try? [12:53] oobiloz, flashplugin-nonfree is the name. you also want to remove gnash, if it's installed [13:09] i did that [13:09] no joy [13:09] i tried getting the restricted packages, it wouldn't isntall in synaptic, i had to use terminal [13:09] that didn't work either [13:11] ohohh [13:11] knome [13:11] i got it [13:11] :) [13:11] good [13:11] wanna hear how? [13:11] yeah, if you didn't get to install the normal way [13:11] well i got the restricted packages [13:12] and it works? [13:12] restricted extras, installed via terminal using aptitude [13:12] yeah [13:12] hell no [13:12] then i did sudo updatedb, which did nothing [13:12] then i looked itup in forum and did [13:12] locate libflashplayer.so [13:12] as it turns out i had double [13:12] i did [13:13] 'sudo updatedb' updates the filed database so 'locate' will work. it doesn't appear to do anything, and still it does. [13:13] s/filed/files/ [13:13] rm /home/oobiloz/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so [13:13] ah [13:13] okay [13:13] so it did work [13:13] when i removed that it worked [13:13] yeah [13:13] and i've never been so happy listening to maroon 5 [13:13] mweheheeh [13:14] had you copied that file there yourself? [13:14] i doubt it, i've just been unisntalling, reinstalling, and all that [13:14] right... good to know then [13:14] ehehe [13:15] :) [13:15] if somebody asked me this, i wouldn't remember how to do it [13:15] i do [13:16] thank god [13:16] check if you have multiple copies of libflashplayer.so and remove the extra ones [13:16] i will probably end up asking *you* again next time [13:16] ;) [13:16] no problem [13:16] i will be coming on here regularly [13:16] and now, to install skype... [13:16] ;] [13:17] that should be pretty straightforward [13:17] i have terrible memory :( [14:19] great [14:19] nwo i'm having trouble with skype [14:19] anyone here have had sound problems? [15:12] hello [15:14] how to enable 3D graphics with proprietary nvidia driver? [15:15] if you have it installed and used you have 3D [15:16] it is installed [15:16] but screensaver isnt working nor any of 3d games [15:17] what graphics card / driver version? [15:17] you rebooted? [15:17] rebooted yes [15:18] check the drivers-dialog and see if it's used [15:20] under additional driver it sais current is in use [15:21] lspci | grep VGA says what? [15:22] arpad@arpad-desktop:~/Desktop$ lspci | grep VGA [15:22] 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GT] (rev a1) [15:22] arpad@arpad-desktop:~/Desktop$ [15:22] should just work.. [15:23] bad luck I guess === IdleOne is now known as Idle0ne === Thermi is now known as thermi === thermi is now known as Thermi [15:47] hello === Idle0ne is now known as IdleOne [15:48] query [15:48] goodbye [16:21] is there an archive of old xubuntu releases like old-releases.ubuntu.com? [16:24] Sysi: driver now works fine :) [16:25] Sysi: Ive got help, xorg.conf wasnt set good [16:25] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/ found it [16:30] What is the correct command to start a xubuntu-session from CLI? i set up a vncserver but all i get is an empty xfce-session, so i guess i neet to tell the start script to start xubuntu... [16:30] what are you doing now? [16:31] accessing my pc via tightvnc... [16:32] you start xfce with startxfce4 [16:32] does that load normal xfce4 or a xubuntu session? [16:32] what should be the difference? [16:33] appearance [16:36] during the login screen, there is a diference between "start xubuntu session" and "start xfce4 session"... [16:37] i never noticed [16:39] well, a plain xfce4 session doesn't look like xubuntu - other icons, other themes (i guess it's just that) - i thought someone might know how to invoke xubuntu - or where to look for the command... [16:39] both just take your personal xfce settings [16:40] set it to look like you want [16:40] hmm... i think, that's a problem for later... atm i can'T even get xfce4 to work... [16:42] all i get after connecting is a blank grey screen with a black x as cursor... [18:07] having a problem logging on, hit my user name the screen flashes and the boot screen reappear, no chance to enter password, last session had.. [18:08] a hardware reboot due to nevernote screen capture not working hit esc and enter but would not capture ^X and ^C didn't work either..so now dea [18:08] ..dead [19:07] Hey, is there where I can get a little bit of advice? [19:07] yes [19:09] Xunbuntu just finished installing, it restarts the computer, I think it attempts to boot from the hard disk and it just sits there with a flashing _ [19:52] Is there a way to find out which menu file xfce is using? I'm not using xubuntu, but I installed xfce4 package from a minimal Ubuntu install [20:23] /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop doesn't exist [22:18] how can i install flash? [22:19] install flashplugin-nonfree with your favourite package manager [22:26] how can i install flash in ubuntu from terminal? [22:26] sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree [22:32] gn8 === Thermi is now known as thermi [22:48] Hmm. Where would one report a typo in a link on the xubuntu site? [22:49] Never mind, think I found it === Wicet2 is now known as Wicet [23:10] hi. anyone know how to turn off "thumbnailing" (saving thumbnails to .thumbnails) in xubuntu 10.04. i can only find instructions for how to do it using nautilus. [23:12] just_some_dude: uninstall "thunar-thumbnailers"? [23:13] that seems way too easy and obvious, but i'll try it. [23:13] thanks [23:14] why "too easy"? :) [23:16] because it seems like a pain to do from what i've been reading [23:17] someone even said to do something like this: "chmod a-rwX ~/.thumbnails/" [23:17] ah, that's just hacky [23:18] so, have you tried to uninstall the thumbnailers and look in a newly created dir with imgs or other stuff? [23:18] hang on [23:18] i'm hoping i don't have to restart [23:18] no, you don't have to [23:19] well, in fact the thumbnailer might still be running [23:19] let me quickly check [23:19] hm no i think it should be ok [23:19] and anyway, restarting your session should suffice [23:20] nope, didn't work. [23:20] i guess gimp makes thumbnails too [23:20] no, not for thunar [23:20] re-login [23:21] the already created thumbnails will not be gone btw [23:21] unless you rm -r the thumbnails-folder [23:21] i deleted all the thumbs after uninstalling [23:21] then ran gimp, and new thumbs showed up [23:21] why gimp? i thought you were talking about thunar? [23:21] i just don't want any thumbnails [23:21] gimp only uses a file-chooser dialog that is gtk, not thunar [23:22] i'd rather have thumbs generated each time than waste disk space on cached thumbs [23:23] they're eating *megabytes* of precious hdd? [23:23] disk space is cheap, cpu power is usually less cheap. anyway, i don't really feel like arguing about that [23:23] the point is that at least for thunar you might have to restart your session [23:23] or restart thunar [23:23] restarting your session means: logout, login [23:23] thunar has option in settings to not show thumbnails [23:24] restarting thunar means: Thunar -q, Thunar [23:24] i just decided to say "screw it," and delete the directory from time to time [23:24] you could symlink it to /dev/null :P [23:24] hacky [23:24] heh [23:25] well, you could run a script on login that does that [23:25] now, i do have a "real" issue [23:25] but i still think it's a pretty bad decision :) [23:25] it's about hdaps [23:25] i'm not going to worry about it [23:26] there is no gui for hdaps, and i need to know if i set it up correctly. [23:26] it does work, but the xfce4-hdaps thing says "hdaps is off" [23:27] i type "sudo hdapsd -d sda -s 15 -a -v -y", and that spits out a continuous stream of data that changes when i move my computer around [23:28] it also stops if i hit my computer too hard [23:28] but, i'm running it without really knowing what it is doing. [23:36] if the hdaps thing is too involved, i have one more issue [23:36] full screen flash video will freeze after a few minutes, but the audio keeps playing [23:37] if i leave full screen, the video goes back to playing normally
