[09:32] morning. [09:33] anyone know (a) when beta 1 will be out and (b) where will it be available for download? [09:34] airurando: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NattyReleaseSchedule [09:39] Does Open Source *really* save money? London School of Economics study your chance to prove - simple form to fill in: http://bit.ly/dP74g6 [09:47] czajkowski: saw that thanks. I didn't realise the download link would be available from that page. [09:47] morning all [09:54] airurando: no bother [09:54] :) [10:13] morning ebel [15:19] erm... 30 seconds to open a terminal when only firefox is running (Ubuntu 10.10, dual core 2.4GHz system with 4GB RAM) [15:19] :( [15:22] slashtom: but you have a load of 15! [15:23] Since you didn't menion anything about your system, i shall make assumptions that explain things :P [15:23] load of 2 or so [15:23] which is crazy, the system is doing anything [15:24] swapping? what's the cpu usage like? what's io usage like? [15:24] 0 swap used [15:25] load is continually over 1, for entire usage [15:25] without firefox running, that's 16 seconds to open a terminal [15:26] what's using cpu? userspace? iowait? kernelspace? [15:26] run "vmstat 1" to see what your CPU is using [15:26] i have bloatware installed, so that's not helping [15:26] and then open the terminal and see if anything spikes (e.g. iowait, kernel, io etc...) [15:28] this has been annoying me for weeks (it's a secondary system) [15:28] you running virtual machines? what's your file cache like? [15:28] none [15:28] i'm going to put squeeze on here in a minute [15:29] no file cache? so it has to read the programmes from disk every time? [15:30] You got NIS or anything funky like that? [15:30] no virtual machines [15:30] no NIS [15:30] it's a standalone system [15:30] Any long running scripts in your ~/.profile, /etc/profile, ~/.bash_profile, ~/.bashrc etc etc [15:31] it takes too long to find out, and i'm now trying to copy stuff off here [15:31] * slashtom is going to squeeze it [15:40] 2 minutes 20 seconds to open a terminal (i am doing an 'apt-get install' at the same time) [15:41] load: 6.03 12.03 7.18 [15:41] :( [16:29] * slashtom squeezes [16:37] hmm [16:40] hmm? === Andru_ is now known as infoturtle === infoturtle is now known as CoolMcDude === CoolMcDude is now known as ThomasCoolington === ThomasCoolington is now known as ChadMcCool [17:42] * ChadMcCool is off to be cool at the Ubuntu Hour :p [17:43] cool [17:44] * ChadMcCool thinks that comment is cool! [17:44] I feel the need to keep this up for as long as possible [20:31] ping infoturtle [20:33] hey airurando [20:34] how was UHL? [20:35] quite [20:35] just meself and 3 cd's [20:35] oh dear [20:35] hope the cds were entertaining [20:36] ha, they were a bit of fun, lucky they have wifi and skynews [20:36] infoturtle: we were chatting about UGJ at UHD last night. [20:36] oh ya? [20:36] I know you were thinking of giving an intro at UGJL [20:37] a bit of one ya, making like a power point intro to explain things [20:37] the idea cropped up of streaming ebels introduction. [20:37] bout 10-15 mins [20:37] that would be great [20:38] don't want to interfere with you plans though [20:38] I'm just going off what the wiki says so a bit of experience would be nice in it [20:38] sound like you are putting effort into it [20:38] not at all, thats productive and would help everyone here too [20:39] I can keep mine for if two or three more come later in the dat, I don't mind [20:39] *day [20:39] powerpoint?....surely not [20:39] ha [20:39] no but I forget what open offices one is called [20:39] ebel has given a few before [20:39] low key [20:40] well ebel should know were a though crowd to please down here! [20:40] so he might wana vamp it up a bit [20:40] we'll see if we get it organised so. [20:41] by we I mean them. [20:41] I'll make the tea! [20:41] ha ha, anything helps [20:42] It will be interesting to see if much communication flows between the two venues. [20:42] I've two friends with me all day and were think of doing a ustream for recording or those pondering of comming down to see what were doing [20:42] great idea [20:42] and we'l be in IRC too for the day so we should be close in contact [20:43] aye indeed [20:43] any plans on testing beta 1 in Limerick? [20:44] no experience of it at UGLD. [20:44] going to give it a go. [20:44] I would love to check it out, I'm unsure how the day will go as this is my first [20:44] only my second. [20:44] I thoroughly enjoyed the first. [20:45] Hope this one will also be productive. [20:45] I also plan on adding to our reapproval application wiki page. [20:45] I do look forward to this indeed, duno how productive we will be down here as we not great at C but we'll do the best we can [20:46] infoturtle: most important thing is to have fun. [20:46] that part will be easy [20:46] build on knowledge for next time [20:47] I just look forward to see how the day turns out [20:47] did 091labs say if there going to Limerick or Dublin? some of the miLKlabs are comming to this one [20:48] haven't heard about what 091labs are doing. [20:48] just was the comment on the facebook page. [20:49] *saw [20:49] infoturtle: is citizenjonker going to attend? [20:50] I was hoping to talk to him tonight but he must have forgotten, I'll txt him in a bit and ask [20:50] he would be good. [20:51] he was at the last one in Dublin. [20:51] he would, I'll get in touch with him alright, I must go fill out this important form for U: [20:51] *UL === airurando is now known as mrod === mrod is now known as airurando
