qwebirc33145If I just installed Ubuntu 10.10, Will my Mythbuntu sit on top of that, or did I just waste some time?03:52
mycoDAyeah - install the mythbuntu package03:54
mycoDAshould install mythbuntu control center03:54
mycoDAuse MCC to choose the roles you want the system to have and it will do the rest03:54
mycoDAsound workable qwebirc33145 ?03:55
qwebirc33145Woah, sorry I'm a total noob. I literally just installed ubuntu (so far I love it)03:55
mycoDAopen a terminal03:55
mycoDAenter "sudo apt-get install mythbuntu"03:55
mycoDAenter ur password03:55
tgm4883mycoDA, you mean mythbuntu-control-centre03:55
mycoDAoops lol03:56
tgm4883IIRC, there isn't a straight mythbuntu package03:56
qwebirc33145So, I don't need to download the latest mythbuntu package?03:56
mycoDAgoddam it - coulda sworn it was a metapackage03:56
qwebirc33145BTW i really appreciate the help03:57
tgm4883qwebirc33145, you will install mythbuntu-control-centre, then from there tell it how you want that system set up for mythtv03:57
mycoDAit will do it for you qwebirc3314503:57
tgm4883mycoDA, mythbuntu-desktop is a metapackage03:57
tgm4883which would give you far more than just installing mythtv stuffs03:57
mycoDAyeah, thought mythbuntu was too - my bad03:57
mycoDAcoulda sworn hearing there was a metapackage called that to convert normal buntu to mythbuntu lol03:58
mycoDAoh well - live and learn03:58
mycoDAvery welcome qwebirc3314503:58
mycoDAty tgm4883 - you do great work03:58
qwebirc33145ok, so should i install the main mythbuntu download, or do it from the terminal?03:59
mycoDAhuh? can either go to a terminal or synaptic and install mythbuntu control center04:00
mycoDAthen open mythbuntu control center and tell it what 'roles' you want the machine to have, probably master backend and frontend04:00
mycoDAit will run scripts that configure and install most of it04:01
qwebirc33145OK - I have to run... I'll give this stuff a whirl and hopefullly figure it out :0)04:01
mycoDArecommend before you do that you enable the PPAs for 0.24-fixes in Mythbuntu Control Center (you will know what i mean when you see it)04:01
mycoDAgood luck04:02
qwebirc33145OK, thanks for the advice!04:02
tgm4883mycoDA, the PPAs are in there by default04:02
tgm4883you have to manually download and install mythbuntu-repos04:02
tgm4883!repos04:02
ZinnThe Mythbuntu team provides updates for MythTV and Mythbuntu package using the Mythbuntu Repos http://mythbuntu.org/repos04:02
tgm4883and mythbuntu-desktop is the only package that converts a ubuntu install into a mythbuntu one04:03
tgm4883but isn't necessary to install mythtv04:03
mycoDAthey arent in MCC by default???04:03
mycoDAgoddam it has been too long since i did a clean install04:04
mycoDAtgm4883 ?04:04
tgm4883mycoDA, nope, we can't ship that by default04:05
tgm4883since it activates outside PPA's04:05
tgm4883since we have ubuntu build our ISOs04:06
tgm4883Also, after 12.04 LTS, we are thinking of doing LTS only ISO's04:06
tgm4883in case anyone in here wants to comment on that04:06
mycoDAmakes sense to me04:09
mycoDAmyth seems best treated as an appliance, so 3-5 year support makes a lot of sense04:10
mycoDAis there a recommendation somwhere on the mythbuntu site to go for the LTS releases if the machine is primarily for myth?04:12
tgm4883mycoDA, recommendation? nope04:15
tgm4883but thats what I do for my backend04:15
mycoDAditto04:16
tgm4883it's also why LTS will get all mythtv versions released until the next LTS04:16
mycoDAwould their be a place for at least a comment on the fact a lot of people choose to stick with LTS releases somewhere prominent where people are likely to find it BEFORE downloading lol04:17
tgm4883mycoDA, we are still in the process of determining how many people are on what version04:17
tgm4883need a few more months of data04:18
mycoDAfair one04:18
tgm488390%+ are on 0.2404:18
mycoDAjust seems like info that would be useful at the start of peoples mythbuntu journey04:18
tgm4883but there are slightly more people on maverick than on lucid currently04:18
mycoDAi kinda wish i had stayed with 8.04, would have been significantly less hasslesome to upgrade04:19
tgm4883mycoDA, perhaps. But 8.04 only has mythtv 0.2104:19
mycoDAbut then again iirc i couldnt get 0.22trunk and wanted it for vdpau04:19
mycoDAlol snap04:19
tgm4883IIRC it was a limitation of the qt version on hardy04:19
mycoDAahhhhh04:20
mycoDAis there a 0.25 trunk for lucid atm?04:20
tgm4883should be, I'd have to check though04:20
tgm4883I don't think it's available in MCC but it might exist04:20
mycoDAfair one04:21
mycoDAsounds like 0.25 is reasonable?04:21
tgm4883Yep 0.25 (trunk) is being built for lucid and natty04:22
tgm4883But you can't enable it in MCC in lucid04:22
mycoDAPPA repo?04:25
mycoDAreliable source?04:26
tgm4883yea, it's the mythbuntu team PPA04:27
tgm4883so I hope it's reliable :)04:27
mycoDAsweet  - linky?04:27
tgm4883https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/0.2504:28
Zinn[launchpad.net] 0.25 : “Mythbuntu Developers” team04:28
mycoDA(dont want to google, get the wrong one and end up with someones dodgy build with gentoo style flags aplenty)04:28
mycoDAty :)04:29
dekarl1tgm4883: does mythbuntu heading for LTS versions imply that there might be some interest in porting back xmltv, too?07:04
tgm4883dekarl1, I haven't heard of that07:33
tgm4883we don't control xmltv stuff though07:33
=== dekarl1 is now known as dekarl_afk
=== dekarl_afk is now known as dekarl
dekarltgm4883: I think no one really controls xmltv on ubuntu, that's what made me want to promote it a bit over here :D07:52
qwebirc8276Where do I find my password to install Mythbuntu 10.1019:48
qwebirc8276I downloaded the program but when I do the install it asks for a user name and password. I do not have one. ....20:31
joat_I've not used MythTV in about 2  years.  Just now coming back to it.  Question: did Ubuntu remove the MPEG-2 option for capture cards?  When I try configuring with the backend-setup, there's no option for MPEG-2.22:28
gregLjoat_   You can still use those cards, It's the 3rd option...23:12
joat_gregL: third option being "HDHomeRun"?  (1: DVB  2: Firewire 3:HDHomeRun 4:Network recorder 5:Import test recorder 6:Demo test recorder)  No: MPEG option.23:25
joat_trying a different approach...23:48
